Umm, "cute" word-play there...but I'll be optimistic and say it'll earn the show a 3.0 and the net will rethink its decision to cancel...the show will rebound in the ratings by a miracle of God, Zucker will realize he was an idiot, (Big) Reilly will too, they'll KILL that "Today" fourth hour and announce the "unprecedented" renewal of "Passions," a la "7th Heaven" :)

And JER will win a writing Emmy for Passions. And GL will surpass Y&R in the ratings. And Maurice Benard will learn to act. Hey, this is fun! Let's list other impossibilities!

And that's why it's getting cancelled.

Running on those kinds of fumes only gets you so far. It's good for what it is... but it's not a long-term sell.

I disagree. I watched it since the beginning, and I'm sure many others did too. It's just about the right net, the right promotion and the right timeslot. In a different format or in a different decade or something, it would have WORKED.

And honestly, what are we talking about here?

Kenny, you do realize the show lasted EIGHT years, don't you? That's a SUCCESS, by any standard. It's the usual length of a successful primetime show. Who cares if "Days" has lasted 40? Eight is SUCCESSFUL, and we must not forget that.

So the shocks WORKED. And the show WORKED.

Just sayin'.

You begin to not care about the shocks when you don't care about the characters, and the only way to care about the characters to have them fleshed out.

Well, Passions will live on on cable or the internet where the show can be appreciated by its true, hardcore fans..

It's not Passions' fault that most soap viewers aren't savvy enough to get the satire and recognize WHY things on Passions are the way they are.

Rick, maybe you shouldn't bring my name into a thread if you don't want me chiming in then.

Ooooh! O-W-N-E-D.

LMAO!!

Eileen Davidson's stint at B&B will become a huge success. She'll take over Brooke's place as leading lady.

General Hospital will be cancelled in place of a newly-retooled Port Charles.

All My Children will get a budget.

Passions would've been a smash on Krypton. Or Skrull World.

Yeah, you're right. Eight years is good. And it ran on fumes for 6 of those 8 years. Passions would've been gone four years ago if NBC had thought to expand "Today" earlier.

But again, they did. "Later Today" premiered, what, in 1999 too, didn't it? And that was the year of TWO soap cancellations, not just one.

Check it out, NBC- this is what you needed. Take some text messages, scroll them across the bottom of the screen, hope you get a conversation as interesting as this (plus money from all the texts). It's a nice complement to the show.

(Grace better come back to Harmony undead. Not alive, undead. That's the crossover to good vs. evil and the return of the supernatural. Alive would just be lame, imho).

I doubt it. People always complained about the early years of Passions with hundreds of flashbacks a week, repetitive dialogue that constantly explained characters' relationships to each other, and non-existent plot movement. It wasn't until 2004 when Eve's past came out that the show started to pick up the pace and reveal long-held secrets. Frankly, I'd take the last 4 years of Passions over the early years, with the boring, never-ending, unresolving plot lines.

Since 2004, Eve's past has come out. We learned what was in TC's shed and why it was important (because EVE was responsible for the accident, not Julian), we learned the truth about Martin's disappearance, the gazebo, Sheridan's nightmares, Ivy's secret came out, Chad was revealed as the Evian son and then revealed to be Liz and Alistair's son, Little Ethan was revealed to be Ethan's son...I could go on even more, I think! In the early years, none of this plot progression would've happened. That's why I prefer Passions NOW to then.

I've discussed JER's lack of talent for years now. This story twist has nothing to do with 'getting me vocal.'
