Layla is hardly ever on! and Vince is a good character to have. I dont know about anyone else but i have not seen anyy " Big Focus" on Vince or Layla. If you have watched for a long time, you will notice that the Buchanans are about family and in defense of Asa's toast, he said, My Grandaughter was in love with him and thats all that matters. That was family oriented statement. Instead of recongininzing that that one Statement was more like OLTL use to be than any other crapfest on the show, you want to make it about Mcbain, him being a man Asa hardly knew. I can toast to My dead grandfather, and i hardly knew him. Jessica and Antonio's wedding is not going to happen anyway because Tess comes back. And i must say it again, HT was not fired!!! Screw Michael Logan. He is saying what the fans want. HT herself said she didnt resign. All of this complaining isnt worth it. Hope for the better or stop watching. Because being negative makes all the other fans who as are willing to shut up, cit back and wait look like nothing. The previous poster doens't need permission to watch the show or not. Your constant anger over any one who challenges your vaulted perceptions of Brian Frons and OLTL are wearing very thin. Now in response. There has been a heavy focus on Vincent and Layla. OK, you think he is a good character. I don't. The Asa toast, in my opinion, was silly and was one more sorry indication of the comical hero worship that has surrounded "the death" of John McBain. Finally there have been numerous articles in more than one magzine that Heather Tom was let go. She was not offered a new contract. It has been reported by Michael Logan and Carolyn Hinsley. I see no reason to believe that you know more than they do in spite of your implications otherwise. I also don't need your advice or whether or not to watch the show. When they give me something to be positive about then I will. Until then I will express my dissatisfaction. As to HT, no way in the world do I buy that she wasn't let go. You are free to believe what you want but I don't buy it. I also agree with Jess I'd have rather had no Asa than one who is pimping John. See that is just another thing that is wrong with this show. They dangle the vets out there as candy, come see them and then they hand you a rotten apple. If Viki, Asa, Nora etc are only to serve as pimps for the favored then they might as well not be on for my purposes. Hope for change? I've been doing nothing but since DH arrived. It really drove me crazy when Todd stated doing it at the Diner. I dont think i could ever stop watching, no matter how bad, because, Its OLTL. Now AMC on the other hand, I totally stopped watching and turn to DAYS, but w/ OLTL, I could NEVER resort to passions. I cant get down with ATWT either, no matter how good i hear it is. Members HiJinx Posted October 9, 2006 Members Share Posted October 9, 2006 I think the problem with focusing on the vets as applied to One Life is that they have so gutted the pool of vets that there are only a handful of real vets left. Long-term vets include ES, PC, RS, PE and RSW Vet characters would also included Clint Buchanan and Kevin and Jessica. After that you have to go to the 90's for the next set of vet characters: Nora, Todd, Blair, RJ, Antonio, Kelly, Cris, Lindsay and Carlotta. I can't think of a single character they could bring back at this point that would seriously goose the ratings. Max Holden would help, Tina would help. But in the case of Max, while he could bring his SORAS'd teens with him, his character was so marginalized by the time he left that there isn't much tie-in for him with anyone. And in Tina's case, she has been gone so long that other than long term viewers, she isn't going to be remembered much. I'd like to see a multi-generational story on this soap but the families and storylines are so fragmented, that a lot of repair work is necessary just to set the stage for this. I used to, but I don't much anymore. Also, Erika Slezak is safe.....she just signed a new two-year contract, plus she has been with the show for nearly 36 of its 38 years (OLTL priemered July 15, 1968, and Erika premiered on March 17, 1971....plus the character of Viki has been around since 1968). Here is why I watch out of loyalty and not enjoyment these days.... John McBain...two weeks dedicated to his "death" and that Presidental funeral were beyond embarrassing. HT, DG, and TW all leaving. The mistreatment of HBS, TDS, CH, and IK. The stupidity of Nash who can't understand that Jess/Tess are one, and who seems like a broken record. Spencer as God. Making Dorian unrecognizable. Giving Marcie and Michael very little airtime (I love these two). Sticking Rex with Adriana who has the maturity of a toothpick. Claudia, Ted, Vincent and Layla......why are they even here? Nora's quest to clear Paige's name. Paige running around free. Natalie....enough said lol Antonio's talk of how much he loves and will take care of baby Bree, when he abandoned his own daughter for years. Rev. Andrew, Dr. Larry, Addie and a few others all MIA. Clint's stupidity by being involved with Dorian, a woman who has hurt his family over and over and over again. The absence of the Banner, the Sun, Llanview U., St. James Church, and many others we have come to love over the years. Viki's existance at wallpaper at Llanfair. I don't think any of the fans are really happy with any ABC soap right now. I think they are trully stretching the limit of their fanbases. Fans can be very loyal but up to a certain point but there is a breaking point. And once a show begins to lose the loyal fanbase, then that is when I think they are in deep trouble. I know that I have grown tired of the direction AMC is going and I am not sure the changes will be enough to get me interested in the show again.
