Sorry, but in my opinion your abuse of the word "liberal" is disgraceful.... apparently the twisted logic of people LIKE Rush Limbaugh has convinced you that the word LIBERAL is somehow a pejorative term and the LIKES of Rush Limbaugh have managed to pervert the definition of the word.

Better Michael Moore's ass than Rush's. Moore exaggerates but he doesn't outright lie (and he's slightly less of a hypocrite, and not a druggie as far as I know - but they're both fat pig obnoxious nerds)

But I guess it's just Tomato .. toMAHto. No real offence to you intended - just that certain gutter fascist language accepted in The States is not necessarily considered acceptable everywhere else. You'll find that to be true if you ever decide to travel. And you'll find that LIBERAL is a pleasant word in many partsof the world where it hasn't been perverted. In fact it might even describe you.

Sorry if I offended you

I know that he was interim anchor, but I was just hoping against all hope that they would offer him anything(even a move of the Evening News to Washington) just to keep him. Never in the entire time I've watched the News had I enjoyed it more than when Shieffer was the anchor. And I don't watch "Face The Nation" unfortunately.

I just hate how the news has to have "special segments" like Free Speech, which is so pointless. If I want opinions, I'll listen to talk radio or watch FOX/MSNBC/CNN/Headline News. And what will this mean for the news if there's another terror attack or serious threat? Will Katie cover it for 2 minutes and then say, "Free Speech time folks. ?" I don't see Katie Couric going to Iraq, Hurricane Katrina or Tsunami sights. Bob Shieffer didn't either, but he has nothing to prove.

And you put it best Max: Katie "dumbed-down" the news.

If you like 60 Minutes, I think you'll like the new CBS Evening News. It has that type of feel now, which is different, but why should all of the network news shows be the same.

And I think CBS is doing a good job of moving beyond "the voice of God" style of presenting the news. I think that started with Bob Shieffer at the helm.

Um, yeah, ACTUALLY? I said it first! <_< (Although I believe that was a SMART decision; not every American is a political analyst or scholar).

Do you mean CBS phased out the "voice of God" with Bob Schieffer? Or that he started the approach of the voice of God? Because V.O.G. has been around since the beginning of network news, back since the radio days.

They have been phasing out the V.O.G. presentation ever since Bob Shieffer took over from Dan Rather. Rather was the last V.O.G. of CBS Evening News. I liked how Shieffer would "chat" with the correspondents over the news items. He had a more relaxed, more informal, more conversational approach. It's not all solemn.

Hi, Toadstool. I actually sent you a PM in response to your apology. However, I am not sure if that PM was sent (since it is not showing up in my sent box). Therefore, I'd like to also post the contents of my PM here. I am sorry if it turns out that this is a double post. (In other words, I am sorry for posting this here if it turns out that you did receive my PM.)

Toadstool, thank you so much for apologizing. I accept your apology.

I too am sorry that my use of the term liberal sounded insulting to you. Actually, I never intended for it to be insulting, although I can certainly understand why you might think that given the fact that so many right-wingers use that term in an insulting way. (And please note that I feel it is wrong for other conservatives to use the term in an insulting way.)

I believe that liberal means a lot of things (in the U.S.), including being pro-choice, pro-gun control, in support of raising taxes in order to support a lot of government involvement in peoples' lives, and being anti-war. However, let it be said that I respect all liberals' opinions on these matters. (And I too am actually in support of sensible gun control measures.)

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Max

Remember it is ok to be a liberal...but NOT a conservative. And if you are NOT a liberal, or support the war, or support tax cuts or support anything that a republican does, you are automatically a conservative and are sick and wrong.....wanna talk about unfair...that is unfair.

    • Randy (Doug's friend who works for Joey) -- Joey told Randy weeks ago that Joey's plan was to get Doug into so much debt that Doug would be forced to get Vanessa's real estate holding turned over to Joey, to use for money-laundering.  That's been the plan all along, which the viewers knew.  The only thing new is that Joey finally told Doug this. I think Joey is written badly.  I also think Jon Lindstrom is doing "Now I am going to act menacing".   But I don't really feel the menace.  It's too overdramatic and it doesn't feel like a real person.  Jon is a fine actor on GH, so I don't know what's happening here -- the entire BTG mobster premise is badly designed/written.  I don't know if Guza pushed for a mobster storyline?  Or did Jon?  (Jon wrote a novel about Hollywood mobsters). It just doesn't fit.  It feels (to me) like this storyline for Jon was just shoved onto the canvas but it doesn't fit all all. Monday's scene of Mona coming into the "casino" to check up on where Leslie supposedly lost money in the slot machines -- and Randy explaining to Mona that there are no slot machines, there is nothing but the card room.  I had to laugh because they had characters comment that it's just a card room and not a casino -- the show is now acknowledging that there's nothing there.  If they are going to do this, then have it make sense for Fairmont Crest residents to visit a high-end glamourous casino, and not a random room with one table. So what money is Joey laundering? A while back, Joey told Vanessa that he knows about her sexual philandering because owns the escort service that she'd been using. But I don't care...  I'd just prefer that the entire mobster storyline go away.
    • I caught up this past weekend. The show is better written, but I have been bored with the show. I did notice it ranked in the top 5 again this week, so that's a good sign.
    • I can't take this show seriously. I truly miss WJB writing this show. Bradley didn't inherit his dad's talent.
    • Maybe if there had been a good close up or two
    • I haven't had a chance to view the interview, but I'm glad Mike didn't get the part of Derek.  Derek is a badly written character. Any Ben Gavin screenshot from yesterday's show?
    • Wait, what? So, Martin’s not running for President anymore? Just like that?  I didn’t expect this storyline to be long term but I would’ve liked to see it play out for a little while longer, or at least until Martin’s secret was revealed. And definitely not fade out with a whimper. Sort of like Naomi’s lawsuit against Bill’s firm; what was the point of it all if it was just gonna wrapped up so easily and (probably) forgotten about?  Eva is still the breakout character though. I’m looking forward to seeing where she goes from here with everyone, especially if the twist that we’re all suspecting turns out to be true.  And I did find the gambling storyline interesting finally, now that we know Joey’s endgame. I’d like to see it play out and to see what happens to everybody involved in it.  As for Derek/Ashley… I wonder how it would’ve played out if they actually had cast Mike Manning as Derek. Yeah, the writing isn’t there but I imagine that Derek would have more of a personality lol and I also imagine that it would’ve made Ron Carlivati’s head explode
