Ha, I just watched that one too (unless there was more than one) where Denise brought up that Hope was biracial. I was floored. That would have been very unusual for the time. I had the same thought. It was better than I gave it credit for at the time.

I so wish they would, but they probably won't. I think probably because standalone shows like Law and Order have always done great in reruns while serial shows do poorly.

Not sure I agree with you on this one. To be sure, the storyline had its issues, but I was recently rewatching some 1999 ATWT and Ben/Denise/Camille are all very frontburner... more frontburner than I'd remembered, even. I recently watched one where Denise had a flashback to her one night stand with Andy and it was pretty sexy! And, I mean, they did give her a child with the son of Kim and John. Give them some credit. On the flip side, maybe the sad thing is I grew so used to the shaft CBS daytime has given black characters for 20 years now that seeing a CBS soap do the bare minimum was shocking/impressive to me.

Lololol, I am cackling. I thought this storyline was awful at the time, but now it's circled back around to so bad it's good. I mean, it's at least more interesting than anything else Margo did in the last 10 years or so.

I usually tend to love all alcoholism storylines, but my goodness, the Nikki/Jack scenes in today’s classic episode discussing her drinking were particularly well written and acted. I couldn’t believe how real they seemed.

They really are. But it’s a blessing and a curse, and something that I think is indicative of the tradition in each family of an oral history being told for each long-running soap character, with details being embellished or left out based on which family member was telling. How many soap fans swore that JFP and the Dobsons came to near collision at the Daytime Emmys as they each sought to claim the Outstanding Drama Series statue for themselves? And then years later, we finally saw the clip on YouTube only to discover that no such moment existed. Never change, internet soap community!

Count me as a fan of the porn opening as well.

Agreed. Love VR, but early Dru is kind of cringeworthy. I can’t blame VR because the writing for the character is pretty lame.

I kept thinking how much more likable B&B Lauren was compared to Y&R Lauren. And she looked great!

Sally’s over the top eye rolls and lip purses were EVERYTHING in today’s 1998 episode.

I've been watching 1988 clips on YouTube. The Sonni/Solita storyline is often called one of the best GL storylines ever. And it totally holds up. The character is just so fascinating and Michelle Forbes' performance is a tour de force. You cannot tell where the con artist and her plethora of lies end and where the honest, real person begins. It's really just such a unique character and performance. And I love how fleshed out her backstory and motivations are and that's she's not just some cartoon villain. This is like a daytime psychological thriller. We've never seen anything quite like it on daytime since.

I loved Nikki stripping! I miss soaps going out of their way to be outrageous. And then you’d be on the phone for 45 minutes with your mom or your girl friend, “Did you see Y&R today?! I couldn’t believe Nikki stripped!” I miss the 90s y’all.

I'm so shocked that people aren't loving the classics. Everyone I've ever known who watched soaps started watching because of their mom or grandmother... half the fun was your mom telling you about the stuff that happened before you were born (invariably "back when it was GOOD") and then occasionally getting to see the odd flashback or Christmas classic episode.

What is the matter with them? Nobody wants to see episodes from the past 15 years. Zzzzzzzzz

Please take it to off topic, y'all. Part of the beauty of these Y&R classic episodes are that they're taking me back to a simpler (better) time.
