I don't know about Gary Tomlin -- he's either too campy or too boring -- but I'll certainly take him (and Christopher Whitesell) over Bob Guza ANYday.

Hell, I'd take the job, even if I had to do it for free (in exchange for creative control).  I just want to get in there and write Y&R (or DAYS).

You and me both, believe me.

I just know the people we're now stuck with in the writing game. And honestly, they're among the least offensive of a bad lot. At least Whitesell knows how to structure a story effectively. Something that's sorely lacking at Y&R right now.

If they're gonna recycle I want Guza and Meg B

I mean...at least Meg Bennett has history with the show, but Guza would kill everyone over the age of 50 except Victor who'd become 10x more obnoxious and somehow be viewed as the town hero all the while. Hard no.

Much as I know a lot of people weren't thrilled with them, I wouldn't mind TomSell giving it a go. As much as their DAYS went off the rails after their heavy hitters left, and they had a tendency to add bizarre new characters (the Ozark chucklehead crew), their first year at DAYS at least had some thought and planning put into it, and had more actual romantic/sexual dramatic elements to it, which I haven't really seen in the same way since anywhere. Really, their main problem was that their plans fell apart after Eileen Davidson, Ali Sweeney, and James Scott all left in quick succession, and they scrambled (poorly) to fill the void.

I know they're very different shows, and that they tend to go a little too far toward high camp, but I recognized something in them, thematically, and in the structure of their stories, that was somewhat more akin to how Y&R used to be (on a much less sophisticated level, of course).

And yes, I do realize this is a deeply unpopular opinion to hold. But I think I would rather them to Godfather Guza.

Lemme guess: Kate has been brainwashed into thinking she's Caroline?  No, wait.  She's not really Kate.  She's Kimberly in a Kate mask.  That's it, isn't it?  That's why she's [!@#$%^&*] working at the [!@#$%^&*] pub these days.

TWIST: It's Kim's alter, Lacey, pretending to be Kim in a Kate mask!!! SOAPY GOODNESS!!1

IKR?  If this show would just GIVE us an explanation for why Rolf has done what he has done!

At this point, I just have to assume he did it, because he missed Stefano and Gina so darned much.

I'd go another way: Adrienne KNOWS she's Adrienne, but she's pretending to be Bonnie, because they're afraid whoever actually killed Bonnie might've wanted to kill Adrienne instead.  But the even bigger twist would be how Adrienne, as Bonnie, gets Justin to fall in love with her, not knowing it's her.  If you know what I mean.

Too interesting, so they definitely won't go that way.

If it involves any remote character work, Ron won't do it. As @te.said, what do you want? Ron's blood? If you make him think for more than two seconds about his story, he'll pop a blood vessel.

Because, I was singing the same tune when I wrote it.  ;)

Oh good, we're on the same page.🤣

I have to admit, I haven't tuned in once since the TJ, and nothing I've read or seen so far gives me any interest in tuning in. It all just feels like a bunch of wacky plot points strung together without any emotional impact whatsoever. I haven't heard a single positive thing about any of the stories, and the most emotion I can muster about this whole Steveno thing is an extended eyeroll. Speaking of eyes, did Steve get a second bionic one or is this one glass?

To even give Rolf a bloody motive to brainwash Steve into thinking he's Stefano is too much to ask now? This is basic storytelling stuff and we're completely missing it. I can't.

Thanks! That was interesting. I have literally just realized that ‘Keesha’ was GL’s first Dinah Marler?! Not to be controversial but I thought Keesha was black or mixed... am I missing something?

Yeah, I thought when watching the story initially that Keesha was at least mixed, but I think they just gave her some...fairly heavy bronzer. In retrospect, it's cringeworthy, but I didn't even think twice about it at the time. It was only when I saw her on an old SFT episode that I realized how light her skin really is.

    LOL!

No, I'm still holding out hope he'll be revealed as Stefano's bastard son someday.  They have danced around that for DECADES, and I STILL can't figure out why.

They need to go back to, and stick with, him being Forrest Alamain by blood and leave it. Vivian had a DNA test done, and if anyone's gonna f*** with a DNA test, it's gonna be Vivian, and she didn't. So any retcons after that are dumb, IMO.

Though I do think your idea would be cool, my first thought is "oh god, how does that make it weird", but then remembered Kristen was adopted, so...

That's what the Brandon Barash Stefan recast was for but I guess they didn't realize he'd take off and thus this Stefano mess.

    ...and EJ before that.

    ...and Tony/Andre/whoever before that.

...and hell, Lawrence before that. Different family, but he was definitely created with the knowledge that the old villains wouldn't be around forever and they were planning ahead.

It seems like they're stuck between the 12-17 and 18-49 demographics, and production doesn't know which way to take it.

considering I'm getting more depth and character complexity out of She-ra, maybe they want to adjust their expectations of the 12-17 audience a touch.

It’s all good. I totally understand that I have an unpopular opinion about JFP. I can handle opposing opinions.

Thing is, I think she is capable of putting out some very good soap opera when she wants to (see SB and GL). But when she's at her worst, watch out!

@JAS0N47 Did DAYS wrap on Nov. 15 (with 7/13/20 episode) or are they filming this week?

If they start in early January, they will still be 6-7 months ahead. Clearly we all agree is far from optimal, but if its the only way to keep the show going....

So they say. I'd be interested in someone trying to work out some other way to achieve similar savings and not cause such upheaval in the production, as well as burning out the actors.

Even taking more frequent shooting breaks surely would achieve similar savings without causing a situation as ridiculous as the one with Brandon Barash, where his death was shot before his first scene even aired. It's at that point where it stops being a measure to ensure the show's survival and becomes a liability to it.

Maybe his time frame was about writing or shooting the episodes? Because like you said it started right before Christmas on-screen.

I recently tweeted to Greg Meng (co-executive producer and creator of the app) about the geo-blocking, and many others have done the same. He liked our tweets so hopefully they're working on it, but so far no luck.

It's not just Canadians but everyone outside the US.

Well aware, unfortunately. I tried getting the app when I was in the Netherlands last month and unsurprisingly got the same result.

It just seems so much more glaring when you're in Canada because we're next door neighbours and are basically seen as a common market with the US (often at the expense of our own content), yet are constantly treated like the proverbial red-headed stepchildren with regards to any bonus material, specials, etc.

Ali Sweeney hired her for several Hallmark-related projects, including the final installment of "Murder, She Baked" and her new "Chronicle Mysteries" series.

Salmons also wrote "Christmas at Holly Lodge" -- again, for Sweeney -- and you can catch that this season on "Countdown to Christmas" on the Hallmark Channel.

I'm so pleased she's still working. Thanks for sharing that info, @Khan

1976 was my favorite year of DAYS...of all time! So engrossing, every single day! I'd kill to see that clip with Mickey, but damn border restrictions, the DAYS app is not available in my country. (I am gnashing my teeth in rage as I write this, LOL.)

Let me guess, you're a fellow Canadian. The age-old border problem I thought would be resolved by now, but, of course, persists.

I think it may have had something to do with the writer and the network. The consensus was that Nina Laemmle didn't know how to write for a soap, plus it's clear NBC execs were stupid in the late 70's and early 80's. But also, I have to ask, had the fans changed that much already around that time? Were they so crazy for the action/adventure stories that GH was doing that they didn't care for the character studies/melodramatic storylines anymore?

I find this interesting since she's listed as being a story editor for Peyton Place, so it's obvious she did indeed have experience in writing soaps. I suspect she would've benefitted from a co-head writer of more experience, considering I believe Michelle Poteet Lisanti and Gary Tomlin were both relatively fresh writers themselves at the time.
