  1. Yeah, I don't know why I didn't think of it before but to see Joan Crawford on THE SECRET STORM, what an idea, and, yet another of those specific moments in soap history that it's such a special kind of tragedy that just dam*it why doesn't the visual exist?!! Does the soap universe just not want us to have nice things?! I've thought of another Bill Bell/DAYS storyline that I would put on my list. It's obvious, though, Mike Horton's paternity reveal & the aftermath. I DO NOT want to see the beginning of that s/l, where Bill rapes Laura ever again under any circumstances. It was one of the hardest things to sit through as a teen, in the room with my mother.
  2. I'm with you. Chance is a much better name than Jenz. What's that line? If two or more gather in Chance's name ... 😉
  3. IIRC the cost to the show to do the hour show was more than twice the cost but the revenue to the network was also more than what it would have been from 2 half hour shows, so of course, they wanted to go with the hour show because MORE revenue & they made concessions to the show in terms of space and help with salaries for more actors that would be needed to try to help out on the production end. Now that applied to NBC & to ABC. At CBS when instead they said we're doing it with you or without you, I don't know if they helped the show with costs or not. But ultimately it didn't save Lin Bolen's baby but it's not clear that anything would have. I was trying to remember what the soap's name was in NETWORK but I'm blank. Got it! THE SUN ALSO SETS
  4. Chance! LOL! Wonderful mishear. Perhaps a mondegreen? And, I'd suggest in the 80s Chance would have had a fair shot at being a character name where Jens or Jenz whichever it is, wouldn't have. Like the name Bolt in SOAPDISH.
  5. Oh, no, way too short! Do we know the date of this?
  6. Haven't seen it. Will need to.
  7. Excellent point. Especially regarding Michelle. Wait. I don't know about this. Can you expand?
  8. I called it! Colette was acting on her own, NOT on WSB orders.
  9. No, I didn't get that at all out of what you posted. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
  10. 50 years ago today, January 6, 1975, "Another World" was the first American soap opera to expand to 60 minutes.

  12. Clearly you are looking at one of the really "low bars" when it comes to pairings on DAYS. Obviously I would be 100% against any pairing that involved any of that. I have zero curiosity about any pairing that would qualify so utterly poorly. I was thinking only in the realm of real couples, not trash.
  13. What an idea! If JFP had had insight! BAH. The thing is we know that Curlee had enough presence of mind to think of a contingency plan that she could write in case the people in charge changed their minds. Knowing that Roger had one true friend in his whole world, Mo, Curlee envisioned writing that we are looking down from the top of the cliff at the car below. The camera pans up to us & we are Roger standing with a shaking Mo, saying over & over again, "We've got to get out of here." Then, Roger loads her into his car & drives to a motel & stashes her there & tells her that he will be back soon with some kind of plan. Unfortunately, the world was not lucky enough for the brilliant Ms. Curlee Demorest to get to use that!!! Co-sign. SO much high drama & loads of emotion. The bit of physical business when Ellen slams the ringing phone receiver down, not once, but three times! And, then, the topper of the whole scene where she just screams at Lillian to get out of her house! The scene is emotionally exhausting for the viewer. I can only imagine what it took out of the actors.
  14. Just look at that! With glee I draw your attention to ANOTHER WORLD! 8.1 and 8.2 & soaps were so good then that only put them in 6th place. I wonder if anyone at that time had any idea how good a time it was.
  15. Many times people compared AW to a presentation of a live play translated to the small screen. Something I always loved about it. Connie Ford is my favorite actress. I adore Bridget. I'm still mad that JFP fired her for no better reason than she was over 50. Liz, well, Aunt Liz, somewhat stereotyped family busybody is of great value. And, Irene Dailey did actually win an Emmy! Could the unknown woman be Denise Alexander as Marisa Lasalle/Mary McKinnon?
  16. I'm glad it came up then. It's a thing that should be known. When you think about it, it shows so much carelessness. Why is it that they just don't give a what-for about things like this?!! In case you can't tell, it is something about these soaps today that I absolutely detest!!!
  17. @carolinegWell, I certainly totally respect your right to disagree & have an appreciation for the reasons you lay out, but, I still am going to continue to name Kayla & Shayne as one of the worst pairings DAYS ever attempted. And, honestly, I did not think Kim gave her sister a hard time over it. She was pretty cool about it & they had a number of good sister scenes where it was clear they were very okay with each other. I think for me it's just too icky. The scene with the two of them, with their little ones, in the airplane, with turbulence, is a lovely scene. Because I am curious, what pairing or pairings do you find objectionable?
  18. Okay, Courtney Sherman Simon is someone I sometimes email with. So last night I dropped an email to her laying out that it is my favorite line & I have learned that she wrote it & ended with "Brava!" I did not expect a reply. But, first thing this morning, I got one & it left me laughing my head off. Believe it or not, this was her reply: So on this I reflect a few things. #1 She remembers the exact words she wrote 32 effing years ago. #2 She insists that the way she wrote it was better & some actor did what they always do & changed it. #3 She actually takes the time to email me & tell me so. She has made my week!!!
  19. Demi Moore, last night, Golden Globes:
  20. I could NOT believe her acceptance speech! It was so personally revealing. I was SO touched by it. It was one of my favorite moments of last night's awards presentation. The only thing better was the 10 minute irreverent Canadian inspired schtick of Catherine O'Hara with Seth Rogan as her sidekick. O'Hara's comedic timing is perfection. She is to comedy what Beverlee McKinsey is to soaps. I love the Golden Globes so much more than other awards shows because you can count on getting to hear these people say unexpected things! Demi did not disappoint.
  21. I don't recall this specifically for the particular episode last week but in general both DAYS & GH do this kind of thing fairly often.
  22. To me Rachel has not only definitely shown herself to be DiMera stock but a perfect representation of her two parents. And with a potential demon seed child like this, you run the risk of making them too precocious but Rachel instead seemed like a real kid.
  23. Most of the time soap actors play the same beats story after story. If/when some soap honcho comes along with an idea where they play a drastically different dramatic scenario even if it's predictable that fans are going to label it OOC & hate it, to those actors this is that bright shiny object & they're going to think this is the most brilliant idea they've ever heard. As fans we have to accept this about actors & not count on them to be accurate in their assessments of PTB!!
  24. Come on, it's fair because she was a test-tube baby! We can pile on & make it even worse by noting that the surrogate who carried her was named Claudette! And, I already renamed the show VERSUS. Every scene is some plot point where x is against y. We've had a year where almost every couple has been broken up to serve some plot-plot-plot point. Everything is sacrificed in the name of plotting, or should we now go all the way & say PLODDING. Because all of this plot is definitely labored.
