  1. These are the ones that I REMEMBERED. I was not watching the show when this character was introduced. However, I think that the writers should have created a rivalry for his attentions between Ellen and Lisa. Slick, I do not remember that Neil Wade and Lisa were ever attracted to one another, but my memory may be bad.
  2. I definitely remember that Phyllis Frelich appeared on the show. Roy Shumann was on The Best of Everything in addition to the shows listed. In addition to creating the role of Lincoln on All My Children, James Karen played Dr. Burke on As the World Turns. (Dr. Burke was husband of Julia and father of Susan.)
  3. The only fan club that I ever attempted to join was that of Diana Millay (Dark Shadows, The Secret Storm). I saw it listed in a magazine and sent in my dues. I remember that the president lived in Missouri, possibly in St. Louis. He returned my money and told me that she had just completed her second run on Dark Shadows and that she was moving to Italy with her son, retiring from acting. About two years later, she had returned and was acting on The Secret Storm as Kitty Styles #1. Mr. Gordon appears to have been a wonderful person to represent!
  4. On Search for Tomorrow, Rhonda Sue Huckaby (Tina Johnson) was romantically linked to Ringo Altman (Larry Fleishman).
  5. Ms. Kurty also appeared on Love of Life and on the primetime Dr. Kildaire.
  6. In her autobiography, Mary Stewart stated that most of the lists of actresses playing Patti were not complete. She stated that a number of actresses were on the show for very short periods.
  7. Vince O'Brien had appeared on Dark Shadows. Jane Manning is one of the most underrated actresses in soap opera. (She is now a playwright.) Odd that there was a Mitch Farmer. Mitch was also the name of a character on Somerset. Jodie Fields (Alice Haining) was, I understand, a record producer. I had forgotten that someone originated the role of Bella, not Lee Goodart.
  8. Lisa Cameron was also on Another World. Anna Marie Horsford was not only on Guiding Light, but also on Search for Tomorrow as a social worker when Travis and Liza were considering adoption. Lenka Peterson also appeared on All My Children. Brooke was trying to locate her mother, and the character played by Ms. Peterson was suspected to by the mother. (She was not.) I believe that Gloria Cromwell was also on Search for Tomorrow. I am wondering if Katherine Meskill possibly created the role of Margaret Garrison on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing? Other performers appeared briefly as Spence and Chandler Garrison, so maybe Margaret was not created by Flora Campbell.
  9. Paul O'Keefe played Ross on The Patty Duke Show in between his two roles on As the World Turns. He was later on either The Edge of Night or One Life to Live (or both) in a day role and on NBC's Hot Hero Sandwich (a Saturday morning children's television show). Both he and Patty Duke had come from soap operas. She had been on The Brighter Day and Kitty Foyle. Many of the young actresses who played her friends were later on soap operas: Alberta Grant (The Edge of Night), Kelly Wood (Search for Tomorrow, As the World Turns), Robyn Millan (Where the Heart Is, Ryan's Hope), Pamela Toll (The Doctors, Somerset), Gaye Houston (Another World), Renee Jarrett (Woman with a Past, The Edge of Night, and Someset), and Marcia Strassman (All My Children - although I suspect that she appeared on the show after the production had moved to California). Other soap opera/serial stars who appeared on the show include Joey Trent, Don Scardino, Scott Glenn, sibligs Donie and Susan Melvin, Alan Manson, Natalie Ross, Natalie Masters, Frances Heflin, Lois Holmes, Margaret Hamilton, K. C. Ligon (daughter of Ryan's Hope David Clarke and future wife of Tom Ligon), Bonnie Bartlett, K. T. Stevens, Patricia Bosworth, Dana Elcar, Jerry Strickler, Sorell Brooke, Peter Turgeon, Charles White, Frances Chaney, Joe Silver, Pat Englund, George Gaynes, Jean Stapleton, Jane Hoffman, Leslie Barrett, Stanley Grover, Matt Crawley, and Ralph Bell. The show was produced by both Robert Colbert (Dark Shadows, Strange Paradise, The Secret Storm, Ryan' Hope, Another World, The Doctors) and Stanley Prager (husband of Georgann Johnson of Somerset and As the World Turns). Mr. Prager also directed many episodes.
  10. I had been thinking about Lisa's leading men earlier this week, but I had omitted Dick Martin (Ed Kemmer). Here are the ones that I can remember: Bob Hughes (Ronnie Welch, Don Hastings) Bruce Elliott (James Pritchett) Donald Hughes (Peter Brandon) John Eldridege (Nicolas Coster) Dick Martin (Ed Kemmer) Simon Gilby (Jerry Lacy) Rev. Wally Matthews (Charles Siebert) Dr. Michael Shea (Jay Lannin, Roy Shumann) Grant Coleman (Konrad Mathai, James Douglas)
  11. I read that on From These Roots, an actress got sick during the episode and someone who worked on the show (the assistant director?) finished the episode as that character.
  12. I think that it was 1967 when Richard Thomas played Tom. (This is just from memory. I don't have any exact dates.) I don't know when A Flame in the Wind/A Time for Us was cancelled, but he was on that show. Irna Phillips was conneted to that show, so she probably wrote Tom back into As the World Turns after the cancellation of that show. Mr. Thomas did not play for very long. I know that my mother did not like him. He was replaced by Paul O'Keefe, who had previously played Dan Stewart on the show. Mr. O'Keefe was better received in the role (at least in my house). By 1970 (or probably 1969), Peter Link was playing the role. I don't think that John Hughes was being considered by Irna Phillips as a possible addition for the show. In the beginning, both John and Edith were seen. John was played by Lawrence Hugo (Mike Karr #2 on The Edge of Night, Rex Twinning on Search for Tomorrow). John was never a fulltime character but would be brought into the story at times. Edith was a fulltime character, but, after being written off the show, she would return for holidays. John and Pearl (Nancy's never seen sister) were mentioned occasionally in the scripts. Whenever Helen Wagner was off the show for vacation, she was said to be out-of-town visiting Pearl.
  13. If I am not mistaken, Richard Thomas as Tom returned to the story at or about the same time as Lisa. Lisa, at the time, had divorced John Aldridge.
  14. I could imagine that maybe Don Imus and C. C. Courtney could have been friends, having both come from radio. Perhaps it was Mr. Courtney who asked Mr. Imus about appearing on The Doctors.
  15. Ellen Lowell was Ellen's maiden name. She married Dr. Tim Cole and became Ellen Cole. Tim died, leaving Ellen a widow. Then, following her prison time (which is when Sandy was introduced), she married Dr. David Stewart. When Ellen and David married, there were on-screen announcements inviting the audience to the studio to see the wedding. It was phrased the way that a real wedding invitiaton would be worded. The invitation was from Claire Cassen and Judge James Lowell. The announcer delivered this over the credits. The same thing had been done when Penny and Jeff had married. I guess that the above episode was after Ellen had killed Franny Brennan. She and David had decided to marry, but the wedding was postponed due to Ellen's trial and her imprisonment. Before she and David became engaged, Ellen was involved with Donald. I wanted Donald and Ellen together! Also, before Ellen married Tim, he had to get a divorce. His wife, Louise, was played by Mary K. Wells. The divorce decree came after a big legal drama.
  16. Sally's family was never shown or (as I can recall) mentioned. I believe that Tom was written off and returned slightly older as played by Peter Link (pictured in the magazine above). It must have been after this when Don Scardino/Paul Falzone/Gary Sandy, Rita McLaughlin, and Ed Bryce were added as Hank Barton, Carol Demmings, and Prof. Demmings. Carol was later written off in order for Tom to romance Meredith (Nina Hart). Swoozie Kurtz played Ellie, the niece of Tom's landlady who seemed to have a crush on Tom. Carol was later brought back to the show. I do not recall the members of the Suker family except for the father and daughter. I also do not remember the Rice family (Judson Laire, John McMartin, Gloria Howe). I suspect that they were seen primarily during the school year when I was in school. I also remember discussions of the medical situation with Dr. Doug Cassen. I do recall that Roy Poole played Dr. Jerry Stevens (step-father of Dr. Neil Wade). I had thought that Jerry was his first role, but I have learned that he was also on an NBC soap opera (possibly Our Five Daughters). I know that the actress who played Mrs. Stevens had previous played a role on The Guiding Light.
  17. I do not remember who played Dr. Suker, the father of Sylvia. Can anyone tell me who played him?
  18. Bob and Lisa did divorce. However, Lisa did not move to Chicago until several years later. Lisa really wanted to get back with Bob following their divorce. And I think that Nancy was in favor of their getting back together. I know that Eileen Fulton left the show. The role of Lisa was recast with Pamela Miller. The introduction of Ms. Miller in the role was that Lisa had ridden a train (I think to Texas) and had been raped repeatedly. She was upset and fragile. Ms. Miller did not remain in the role for very long. It was a case of not being accepted by the audience. During this time, Bob was attracted to Sylvia Suker (played by Millette Alexander). Sylvia suffered with lupus. She and her father later left town, but I don't remember why they moved. Eileen Fulton returned to the show in order to set up the move of Lisa to Chicago. She and Nicolas Coster were brought to As the World Turns following the primetime serial's cancellation to wrap up their storylines. When Lisa returned to As the World Turns around 1967, she and the divorced Donald were attracted to each other. (The Hughes family had, since the beginning of the show, wanted Donald and Ellen together. Ellen and Don dated, but he also was dating Lisa.) Actor Richard Thomas was cast as the returning Tommy, but he was replaced by Paul O'Keefe (who had previously played Ellen's son Danny). Tommy was older and acquired a girlfriend (Sally - played by Kathleen Cody). Ethel Remey played Alma on-and-off during this time. Then, in about 1968, the character actually moved to Oakdale and became someone who Lisa with whom Lisa could confide. (Henry Miller, Lisa's father, had passed away.) Lisa's affair with Dr. Michael Shea began around 1969 or possibly 1968. By this time, Penny and Dr. Neil Wade were happily married. I say happily, although Penny felt incomplete in not being able to have children.
  19. Paul, Penny had figured out that Bruce and Lisa were having an affair behind the back of Bob when Bruce had sent some flowers to Lisa and Penny read the attached note. (Bruce was the brother of Penny's friend Linda.) She was planning to tell this to Bob when she had the car accident with her husband Jeff. (Jeff, of course, was killed.) During the time of Penny's amnesia, she kept saying that Lisa reminded her of flowers. She also seemed to recall that she was going to share some news about Lisa. As I recall, Pa Hughes was quite concerned about how hurt Penny was going to be when her memory returned and she learned that she was a widow. I don't remember how Bob actually learned of the affair. It may have been from Penny.
  20. Michael Lombard also appeared on Dark Shadows and The Guiding Light.
  21. Clarice Blackburn, pictured here from Dark Shadows, later joined the cast of As the World Turns.
  22. I think that Leigh Lassen would have been a good replacement as Alice on Another World following the departure of Jacqueline Courtney to One Life to Live.
  23. Amy Jennings is listed as Molly Jennings. The character was called Molly prior to the first episode on which she appeared.
  24. I have forgotten. In the play Biloxi Blues, did the role of the prostitute require use of a Southern accent?
  25. Do you know if James Hall played any roles other than his roles on Dark Shadows or The Edge of Night? On my messageboard, there is a poster who says that she saw an episode of The Secret Storm with Michael Zaslow playing Jerry Ames. Do you know anything about that? You don't happen to know if Jane Draper played any roles other than Suki on Dark Shadows, do you?
