One Life to Live Tribute Thread
This may have been mentioned, but in the episode of Richard and Becky Lee's wedding, her parents were being played by Addision Powell and Sasha von Schurler. Ms. von Schurler had played the friend of Julie (Beverly McKenzie) on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing and would later play Brook's mother Jane on All My Children. The role of Ramona Gonzalez R. N on Ryan's Hope (a character in the very beginning of the show) had been created for her to play. Her husband Paul Avella Mayer was a co-created of Ryan's Hope. Mr. Powell had played Dr. Eric Lang on Dark Shadows. Their daughter is a television director.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I think that part of Carla's feelings about Josha and Cathy may have had to do with class. Carla was very upset during part of the time that her mother had neglected her to instead take care of members of the families for whom she worked. Perhaps she was afraid that Josh and Samantha may have faced problems in that she was the daughter of a doctor and Josh had an impoverished background.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I am watching the episode (I think that it is the first) of the wedding reception of Larry and Karen. The actress playing Cathy Craig is NOT the one who played a brief role on Dark Shadows (and had played Tango on The Edge of Night). This was Jennifer Harmon. Ms. Harmon is a New Orleans native who began her career as the heroine (Chris Kirby) on NBC's How to Survive a Marriage. She later replaced Dorrie Kavanaugh as Cathy. (The late Ms Kavanaugh departed as she was editing a magazine and also wanted a career in opera). That is not Neail Holland, the actor that I remember best as Danny (and son of soap opera writers Richard and Suzanne Holland) in the role. (It must be actor Eddie Moran.) I was sure that Mr. Holland had played the role during the time that Karen was Danny step-mother. One of the extras strongly resembles Ken Meeker (who later played Rafe Garrettson on the show) to me. Did anyone else here notice? I wonder if Mr. Meeker may have been an extra and later was cast as Rafe.

I always felt that many of the people who were killed by Barnabas were actually evit in their hearts and that Barnabas was able to sense that they were not all that good.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
I liked Mary Carney as Mary, but my favorite recast was Kathleen Ryan Tolan. I adored her portrayal of Mary. Mary Carney was very refreshing. She reminded me of the young Debbie Reynolds, and I was sad to see her departure, even though I liked her replacement better. I HATED Nicholette Goulet in the role!

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I am under the impression that Ms. Burns did not appear in many acting roles. She did created the role of Cathy Craig, and I do not think that she was in role all that long. (I cannot specify the length.) She did appear in the movie Last Summer and was nominated for an Academy award. I was not aware that she had been on Adam-12, and I think that her television roles were few. She later became a writer.

This perfomer would have been good in that role
I think that Alexandra Moltke Iles (Victoria Winters on Dark Shadows) would have been a terrific Jillian Coleridge on Ryan's Hope.

Peyton Place
Twenty weeks? I think that, just as the 1960s series did, the show should keep going without reruns.

child performers of the soap operas
Two very good child actors who appeared on soap operas are ones that I have failed to mentioned: Timmy Michaels (All My Children) and Frankie Michael (As the World Turns).

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Ellen Holly, the actress who created the role of Carla Gray Hall (also known as Clara Bonarri) left the show in 1980s. The role was not recast, and the character left town. Ms. Holly had also written (without onscreen credit) for the show. She returned later and was involved in a storyline with the late actor Roger Hill (as Alec Lownes). They were, or later were, a real life couple. He left the show, but she remained. Her character had become a lawyer, and she worked for the District Attorney. She also wrote a mystery for the show which was never used. Carla would have been involved in that storyline. Paul Rauch, the executive producer, is said to not care for her voice (which was a voice almost anyone would want to have) and her hair. He insisted that she take vocal lessons and cut her hair. In all honesty, her new haircut became her and made her look more like a prosecuter. She was informed that her contract was not being renewed. She missed the taping of one episode, and her lines seemed to taken by Anthony Call (Herb) and Louise Sorrell (Judith). She returned on the next day she was to appear, but she called Viki "Viki Riley" rather than "Viki Buchanan." In the story, she and her mother Sadie were said to be moving to Arizona where she had been offered the job of a judge. She was said to have been quite unhappy about the breakup of Carla and Lt. Ed Hall. Her character, Carla, learned that she was getting a new leading man. Ms.. Holly contacted an actor in Los Angeles that she thought would be right for the role and encouraged him to audition for the role. She thought that he was going to audition, but, at the last minute, he decided to not travel to New York. Instead, another actor was cast as Dr. Scott (the new character). Ms. Holly was sorry that the actor she wanted in the role had not auditioned. Furthermore, she was never happy with the actor who was eventually cast as Dr. Scott. Ms. Holly later became an employee of New York Library System. She wrote her autobiography, One Life: The Autobiography of an African American Actress. I believe that she also appeared as a judge on Guiding Light for a few weeks.

Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
I think that Gary Tomlin was the show's greatest writer - certainly during the final years. (He was also the best producer of One Life to Live.) I got the impression that he was supervising the show during the time that C. David Colson was the headwriter - maybe as unbilled story consultant. I think that Mr. Tomlin was the official writer of Another World at the time.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Gabriella, the adoopted Italian daughter of Bo, was the other girl who was living the house where Dan was. I don't think that Gabrielle and Brad were together. I only remember her with Asa, Bo, and Rafe. As far as dropped storylines, I think that there was a lot of storyline for the African American characters. However, upon the dismissal of Ellen Holly (Carla), Al Freeman, Jr. (Ed), Lillian Hayman (Sadie), Josh Davis (Dr. Josh Hall) and his girlfriend Lisa (who was late on the serial General Hospital),these characters' stories were dropped. Even Eriq LaSalle was on the show involved with them for a while. I think that a lot of their storyline (Carla's and Josh's) were tranposed into storyline for Judith Sanders and Jamie Sanders, and possibly for Elizabeth Sanders.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Hunter may refer to Natalie's first husband, who was also the father of Jeremy and Gilbert. There was a bully on the ball team who was bullying Erica's granddaughter. I cannot remember his name, but it may have been Hunter. I think that the storyline was leading to a murder. The boy would be dead, and Eerica's granddaughter would have been arrested. I also understand that Adam's grandson (A. J., I think was his name) was going to be revealed as gay.

The same thing is true for David Henesy. He is seen in the 1840 storyline, but I do not think that he was in the 1840 parallel time storyline. A number of other performers were not seen during that time: Virginia Vestoff (except for one episode), Donna Wandrey, James Storm, Terry Crawford, Hubert Humbert Astredo, Gene Lindsey, Clarice Blackburn (last seen during the future episodes). Keith Prentiss and Michael McQuire were added. Jerry Lacy returned. Tom Happer was in there somewhere, and I think that it was during the last part. When Joan Bennett disappeared during the Laura Collins storyline and then when Judith Collins Trask was deceased, she was using the vacation clauses of her contract. Erica Slezak had a similiar clause at One Life to Live; she did not work during the month of August.

Dark Shadows Discussion Thread
I have been thinking for a number of years about the absences of some of the Dark Shadows stars, and I wonder if some of the stars we think of as stars of Dark Shadows actually were working on the show without formal contracts. These are the performers that I think were under contract: Joan Bennett, Alexandra Moltke, Nancy Barrett, Joel Crothers, Mitchell Ryan, Thayer David (later in his run), Grayson Hall, Jonathan Frid, John Karlen (after he was cast as Carl Collins), Katheryn Leigh Scott, Kate Jackson, Donald Briscoe, Christopher Pennock, Craig Slocum I am speculating that these performers did not have contracts: Clarice Blackburn, Dennis Patrick, Jerry Lacy, Conard Fowlkes, Hugh Franklin, Diana Millay (or maybe she had one for a short time), Donna Wandrey,,Terry Crawford Humbert Allen Astredo, Elizabeth Eis, Dennis Patrick, Christpher Berneau, Virginia Vestoff, Gene Lindsey, James Storm, Addison Powell Diana Millay, John LaSalle, and Robert Gerringer may have had shorter contracts. These are performers that I am not sure about: Louis Edmonds, Michael Stroka, Marie Wallace, Keith Prentiss, David Ford (probably had one, but I am not sure), Denise Nickerson I know that Dennis Patrick said that he did not have one on any of the soap operas he appeared (Dark Shadows, Somerset, The Secret Storm). I could also tell from some of Lara Parker's comments on The Tonight Show that she did not know when she was being broght back to the show. (I think that she must have signed a contract around the time that she and Sky Rumson married.) Michael Stroka's contract may have expired. Clarice Blackburn and Jerry Lacy kept appearing on other shows but returning to Dark Shadows, so I do not think that they had contracts. I may be all wrong about this, but I think that many of the performers had only verbal agreements to appear.

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
I wonder if the actress playing Ruth is the same Anne Jones who appeared in Once upon a Matress in 1960? If so, two of her castmates (Janes White, Will Lee, and Patti Karr) were later on The Edge of Night. Odette Bossa, who provided the lingerie, is still making ladies' sleep ware in 2020.

I recognize his voice, unless I am mistaken, from commercials. He is a very good character actor. Why did this show state that it had been pre-recorded? Was it not live?

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
Didi Bannister (Marianne Alda) was placed under contract to the show while the show was being written by Mr. Slesar. Her contract was dropped and she became recurring on the show while Mr. Sheldon was writing it.

I wish that child actresses Judy Safarin (Lisa) and Diane Dell (Lisa) from The Secret Storm could be located.

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
The characters of Lily and Nancy Garrison were written off the show and seldom mentioned again. Also written off was Margaret Garrison (the legendary Flora Campbell). The writers should have kept her and introduced a sibling or two of Spencer.

Was Lily's (Caroline Miner) last name Garrison on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing? I am thinking that she was the daughter of Spencer and Nancy.

Recasts on shows: good, bad, in between
Two good recasts were the late Ed Zimmerman as Dr. Joe Werner on The Guiding Light and the late Bibi Besch as Iris Donnelly Garrison on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.

"Secret Storm" memories.
My understanding is that the creators of Ryan's Hope based the character of Dr. Faith Coleridge on Jada Rowland and that she was considered for the role of Faith when the show began in 1975, It was decided, though, that Ms. Rowland was too old for the role.
