  1. Was his role a recurring role on Karen, or was he in only an episode?
  2. Gary Tomlin had not played Ted Bancroft. I was mistaken, although i was sure that he had. It was Morgan Simpson that he played. Two actresses who could have easily played Mona Kane on All My Children (the role played by the late Frances Heflin) are Kathleen Maguire and Anna Minot. Ms. Maguire played roles on A Flame in the Wind/A Time for Us, A World Apart and One Life to Live. Ms. Minot played roles on The Edge of Night, As the World Turns and A World Apart. These two actresses were castmates on A World Apart. I wonder if ABC either of these actresses auditioned for the role of Mona. After Frances Heflin had been cast, ABC could have seen some audition tapes and cast the two actresses in A World Apart. Who were the casting directors of these two shows? Did the three new ABC shows (All My Children, A World Apart, The Best of Everything) share casting directors?
  3. A whole lot has been written and discussed about Victoria Wyndham being cast as Rachel #3 on Another World. I would like to ask others about the role she vacated and which The Guiding Light recast: Charlotte Waring. Actress Melinda Fee became the new actress in the role. Victoria Wyndham played the role for two years. Ms. Wyndham's sister Felice Carmargo (who had soap opera experience from having played a role on Woman with a Past) was a temporary substitute as Tracy/Charlotte while Ms. Wyndham was on her honeymoon. Dorrie Kavanaugh (who had played roles on Dark Shadows and The Edge of Night) was cast briefly in the role. I am not sure if this was intentionally for Ms. Kavanaugh to play the role briefly or if the show replaced her. Then, Melinda O. Fee was cast as Charlotte. (By this time, everyone knew that Tracy was not the character's real name nor was she the neice of Dr. Sara McIntyre. That impersonation had been exposed while Victoria Wyndham was still in the role.) Charlotte was trying to get Mike Bauer to marry her. She succeeded, and the lives of the members of the Bauer family were not very tranquil as long as Charlotte was Mrs. Bauer. Did you viewers like Ms. Fee in the role - or was your preference Ms. Wyndham?
  4. NBC had aired Somerset in the 12:00 noon timeslot (Central Time).
  5. For a restaurant owner, Ben Scott(Bernard Kates) seemed to spend a lot of time at home fussing with his wife (June Graham)! What was the name of his restaurant?
  6. One very good child actress who appeared on Search for Tomorrow was Stacey Glick! She played Andy O'Neil on Search for Tomorrow. After the character of Keith O'Neil (Craig Augestine) and new wife Jenny Deacon (Linda Gibboney) were written off the show, Andy began living with Stephanie (Marie Cheatam). They had a relationship that was not usual for an adult and a child on the soap operas. Then, suddenly, Andy was written off the show. I suppose that one of the many producers or maybe writers decided to move the show in another direction. (Soon after, Louise Shaffer became the new Stephanie.) I found this information about Ms. Glick today on the internet: Stacey Kendall Glick, Vice President, joined DG&B in 1999 after working in film and television development for five years. Following a number of internships in the entertainment business, her first job after college was at PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, where she looked for book projects to be adapted into feature films. Next, she worked as a story editor at Hearst Entertainment, where she scouted material for television movies. Stacey grew up just outside of Manhattan and is a former child actress who appeared on television, on stage, and in feature films. She now lives in New Jersey with her husband, four daughters (the youngest are identical twins) and two dogs, and enjoys cooking and baking, food and wine of all varieties, taking pictures, shopping, theater, going to Mets games and eating cheese, chocolate and spicy tuna hand rolls (not necessarily in that order) when she can find the time. She has a wide-ranging and eclectic client list, a consistent theme of which is to help people live better and happier lives. She is interested in many subjects, on the adult side: practical and narrative nonfiction across categories including (but not limited to) cooking and food, memoir, psychology, mental health and wellness, lifestyle, women’s issues, parenting, current events, pop culture and science, and select adult contemporary fiction. And on the children’s side: YA, middle grade, nonfiction, and select picture books. Stacey is a member of the AAR, Women’s Media Group, and is a former council member of the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature (RUCCL.org). Stacey says... My illustrious career in the arts began as a small child acting in television, theater and feature films. I always knew I’d wind up doing something creative, and also knew early on that it would involve dealing with people. When I arrived at what was then JDLM in 1999, I was quickly able to incorporate the skills learned from my time working in film and television development into agenting, an area in publishing that had always intrigued me. I’ve grown to love the creative process of working with authors, developing ideas, and selling books to publishers. Seeing a project through from its inception is an incredibly rewarding experience. My tastes are diverse and include nonfiction across the board, especially cookbooks and subjects related to the culinary world. I also retain an avid interest in psychology, and dabble in pop culture, current events, business, narrative nonfiction, and anything that offers a fresh or unique approach to an existing subject. Fiction is much more subjective and instinctual, and I enjoy reading stories that range in style and scope. Genre isn’t as important as finding a compelling story that is well told. I feel very fortunate that I’ve finally found the perfect outlet for my creative instincts and notorious “gift of gab.”
  7. This blog is to discuss why various performers left their various soap opera roles. I have wondered for years who Ernest Graves departed One Life to Live and the role that he had created, Victor Lord. Was this his own decision (and why?), or did the show replace him.
  8. Last night, I saw a tape of an episode of One Life to Live. Asa was being assisted in his office by a character named Randy Pritchard (or Randi, but Asa had not known that she was female until he saw her). Was this role played by Lois Robbins?
  9. I know that James Shannon was on The Doctors, Dark Shadows and As the World Turns. Who did he play on All My Children?
  10. Mona Bruns was later on the California serial Paradise Bay as Judge Hastings (could this have been television first female judge/), but then, the next year, was back in New York to appear on Another World as Emily Hastings. In California, she also appeared on My Favorite Martian, Mannix, Adam-12, Green Acres, Her husband, actor Frank M. Thomas, also appeared as a judge (Judge Grayson) on Paradise Bay (which was his final role as far as I can tell).
  11. Mr. Ingram did not appear on the show for very long since the show aired its last episode on September 28. The network, which had purchased the show from Procter and Gamble, announced that The Brighter Day would leave the air less than two weeks before its final broadcast. Was this show live after the production moved from New York to California? Was Sam Hall writing it at the time of the introduction of Mr. Ingram? I know that two of the characters that Agnes Nixon introduced on Another World (Ada Davis and Rachel Davis) had been intended for The Brighter Day. CBS had hired Ms. Nixon as the show's new writer, but none of her work was ever seen since there was such a short time between the announcement that the show was being cancelled and its last episode's air date. It has been said that the character of Rachel Davis had been based on Erica Kane (of All My Children). Ms. Nixon had attempted to sell All My Children to air on CBS but had been unsuccessful. So, she based Rachel after Erica. Was the hiring of Ms. Nixon perhaps a consolation to her for having rejected All My Children? This was before Ms. Nixon began writing The Guiding Light (on CBS) and, later, Another World (on NBC).
  12. Today (November 7) was the birthday of the late Ms. Bosworth. She passed away shortly after the pandemic began.
  13. Here is something that I found on the original studio where Dark Shadows was produced: It was dated TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2016. "Well, this is depressing. The location of the studios where the original DARK SHADOWS television series was taped is scheduled for demolition, according to The Real Deal. I've spent the last few years pouring over the history of the television show, and have seen hundreds of photos of cast members interacting with fans outside during breaks in filming. While I wasn't part of this community, it's difficult not to feel a sense of sadness on hearing about the building's pending demise. The 10,000 square-foot block-thru property, located at 442 West 54th St., is expected to be demolished to make way for a pair of six-story residential buildings. Emmut Properties paid $25 million for the property, it was announced in January. A deadline for construction on the new properties has not yet been disclosed so, if you've ever wanted to get a gander at where DARK SHADOWS was taped, you'd better move fast. (Take a virtual tour of the neighborhood courtesy of Google Streetview.)"
  14. I would never have speculated that Kelly had been intended to be Timmy Ferriday. I did read that during some of the run of Kelly that the character had been intended to be Timmy Ferriday but that the male character was changed because Timmy and Jody Feriday were related. I don't think that my mind could have made such a speculation. And, it was Joanie Collier (not Joni). Eileen Finley played Joanie.
  15. For years, I have had a theory about the cult storyline and its follow-up. Going back several years, the character of Kelly McGrath had been intended to be a more grown-up Timmy Ferriday. However, because the character was supposed to have a romance with Jody Travis and because Timmy and Jody were cousins, the decision was made to make the character the son of Geri McGrath Pollock and Lee Pollock (Nancy's brother). I think that the character of Joanie Collier and the character of Diana Selkirk were originally intended to be the same character. Eileen Finley (Joanie Collier) was a contract role until her last week, when she was seen and listed with the non-contract characters in the show's credits. Joanie was said to be a runaway from her parents (in Baton Rouge, Louisiana), and, during this final appearence, she told Deborah that she had decided to return to her family. Then, suddenly, Diana Selkirk was shown and she had a background with the cult, Cody, and Elliott. She moved into the house of Mike and Nancy, developed something of a crush on Mike, and, finally, fell out with Mike and tried to pour acid into his eyes to blind him again. Not only do I feel that Joanie and Diana were intended to be the same character, but I think that the character was going to be the daughter of Nancy's sister, Cookie, and husband Ron Christopher. Cookie and Ron could have had a daughter (with a name such as "Janet Christopher") who used the initials J. C. as her alias when she got to the Monticello area. After the collapse of the cult, Joanie would be revealed as Nancy's niece and would be invited to live with Nancy and the blinded Mike (just as Diana was invited to live there). Ron could pass away off camera, and his corneas used as Mike's transplants. Joanie could have been mentally unstable after her running away from home and her involvement with Elliott and Cody. She could have become angry with Mike over anything and tried to avenge the gift of Ron's corneas by pouring acid into the eyes of Mike. (One should not forget that Cookie had become mentally unstable twice over her relationship with men - once going into shock after seeing the dead body of her first husband Malcolm Thomas and being placed on trial for his murder and later following the affair of her second husband Ron Christopher with Tiffany Whitney.) One of the main reasons for my believing this theory is the making of Joanie Collier a contract role and then abruptly writing her off in such a hurry and then the short run for the character of Diana Selkirk. I also want to report for anyone here who does not know this, but Susan Yusan (Diana Selkirk) lost her real-life husband on September 11, 2001 in the Middle Eastern attacks on New York City.
  16. Was Joanie Collier ever a member of the cult?
  17. When I had seen the name Marcella Martin, I, too, immediately thought of another actress. She appeared on commercials, but the only one that I can remember is Freshen Up gum. (and I may not even be thinking of the correct actress, but I thought that she was Marcella Martin).
  18. The use of aliases has been mentioned: Collier Welles/Carlo Crown (an actor that I liked and wished that he had appeared longer on the show); Roxanne Walker/Nora Fulton; Schyler Whitney/Jefferson Brown. One that was not mentioned was that Damian Tyler was Damian Tyler Wilcox, and that there was a connection to Geraldine. I also think (and it has not been mentioned) that Geraldine's need for a daughter (Raven and later Pamela) came after the departure of Deborah, who was the step-daughter of Geraldine. I had never thought of Valerie as a replacement choaracter for April, but, now thinking about it, I guess that she was. One thing that I have never understood (and I have been meaning to ask) is why Roxanne changed her name to Nora. I has never made sense to me.
  19. "At GL before things were that dire Claire Labine was HW but whatever she pitched to write Paul said NO. And, so, after just a few months, Paul fired her & her team. Then, he set about to get a HW. Couldn't find anyone to come & work for him. IDK if it was the rep & state of P&G at the time or that PLUS not paying well enough, or him. Paul called Claire & asked her if she would consider coming back. There was no reason to think it was going to be a happy thing all of a sudden, but she did. As we know, she was a class act all around. Me, I would've loved some of the stuff she pitched! So there." Who is Paul?
  20. I was thinking the other day about actor and singer Rick Ely. He is best known for his role on the prime times series The Young Rebels. I remember that he had played a role on Love of Life. I looked him up, and I learned that he had also played roles on One Life to Live (Steve Pierpoint #1, which I had probably forgotten about since he was later replaced in the role by the actor married to Judith Light) and also on Texas. I am wondering what he has been doing since leaving his daytime television roles.
  21. I have long felt that ABC should have made or transitioned its serial Port Charles into a mystery/drama. The network had not wanted Procter and Gamble to cancel Edge of Night in 1984.
  22. On tonight's episode of Law and Order on NBC, actress Diane Ciesla played the judge throughout the episode. I looked her up, and she has played roles on both All My Children and Guiding Light. She would have made an excellent Valerie Hill Ames Northcoate on The Secret Storm. Furthermore, she probably would have been good in any of the roles of Millette Alexander played on the soap operas - especially Dr. Sara McIntyre on The Guiding Light.
  23. The description of his "looking like a Stephen recast" confused me. Who is Stephen?
  24. The show was owned by Comworld Productions and Gloria Monty Productions. Comworld Productions also produced 19 other shows, and these mostly seem to be television movies. I am not sure on which network they aired. I did see that one show they produced aired on PBS. Gloria Monty Productions produced one other television movie (Confessions of a Married Man with Robert Conrad and Mary Frances Crosby), which was produced by Gloria Monty and Charles Pratt, and the writer was the late producer/writer Charles Gethers. This critics seemed to dislike this show because it was not on filmed, but rather videotape. It was mostly dismissed by the press, although the cast was very good. I doubt that NBC would have purchsed the show, although that network surely was having a hard time to broadcast a prime time serial. I had not known before now that former soap opera actress Veleka Gray was one of the writers for The Hamptons.
  25. I have heard that Warren Beatty will not even ADMIT that he appeared on Love of Life. I also heard that Kim Delaney (Jenny Garner Nelson on All My Children) would become strange if her role on All My Children was even mentioned in her presence.
