  1. Re the GCAC Am I right in saying that at some point that set got a bit smaller and what we are seeing currently is the original full scale version? I think it will go back into mothballs once the gala is over.
  2. I find that giant photo of Neil a little disconcerting. And that brass instrument collage looks tacky. Otherwise,it's an OK set , but will we see those tables full? To the left there is a staircase entrance which indicates it is a basement venue but to the right are draped windows?

  5. In between the Chance's long absence and COVID break that marriage hardly existed. Now Abby has two divorces behind her with little consequence. There was at least another year they could have got out of Chance/Abby .It's damaging to the characters and show to have these quickie marriages. With more sets and characters at their disposal (and a better writer) the show would be much more watchable. If Mamie, Nina etc would pop in when needed so much the better.
  6. It might also be to do with budget. If the guest stars and recurring actors don't appear they are not paid. With contract actors they are probably trying to keep them to their guarantees as much as possible. So if they can avoid having them onscreen that can help. As the gala continues some characters who are supposed to be there may not be seen in an episode. They have spent extra $$$ for this, so I guess anywhere they can make savings... Wonder if there will be any bump in the ratings? Hopefully , otherwise they'll be able to justify the threadbare production values -'See, we spent extra and it made no difference'
  7. ALL of the current cast should be at the gala and that includes lesbian moms and Chance in a tux on his grandmother's arm. It was great to see the cast dressed up -with the women for the most part looking elegant- on a large set with plenty of extras. Wish Sony would keep the purse strings opened.
  8. Daily News New York, New York 25 Jan 1978, SOAP OPERA NOTES by JON-MICHAEL REED ABC WENT ALL THE WAY to the tune ol $8,760,800 to supply "One Life to Live" with new studio facilities to accommodate the serial's recent expansion to an hour-a-day air format. "OLTL's" ultramodern, three-story new headquarters are located in the former armory building on Manhattan's upper West Side just off Central Park. Bob Cioppa of the architectural firm of Kohn, Peddersen, Fox supervised the renovation of the early 1900 building, which had fallen into extreme disrepair prior to its auction purchase by ABC in 1976. The transformation began in February 1977 and was completed only four weeks ago. The medieval castle exterior was steam cleaned and preserved but the interior was gutted and altered. The entire structure was sound proofed and to eliminate noise within the building, an insulated subceiling was constructed beneath the original wooden roof. The main floor contains a high-ceilinged filming studio as well as technical lighting and sound control areas which are built on a split level two feet above the studio floor. The basement rehearsal, storage, makeup and dressing rooms are a modern pastiche of mirrors, chrome fixtures and brightly colored cube furniture. The show's cast double up with "roomies"' in 20 oversized dressing looms that include ample closet space, a sitting area and a couch for between-scenes catnapping. The production staff offices are on the second floor and the show's writers have their own permanent quarters which is highly uncommon in the serial world. ' One Life's" new abode bodes well for the show s potential visual splendors. Says producer Joe Stuart. "In our former studio the sets had to be scaled down to nearly a third of their present size for lack of space. Here we were able to expand and rejuvenate the old sets and construct new ones. We can use seven to 10 different sets per day now as opposed to the three to six that were used in the other-length versions of the show. Also, working with five cameras instead of the previous two or three we used in the past will lend a visual feeling of more scope and grandeur.'
  9. Has Jill had scenes with him? Nina is back so obviously he will appear then There is still drama to be mined from the Abby/Chance breakup. Instead like so much other stuff, it's swept under the rug and forgotten. Maybe Chance decides he wants to try again with Abby? That would create some conflict/drama. Is there anyone else on the canvas that Chance could hook up with? They seem to be hinting at Sharon for a minute. I would hate to see Chance dropped.
  10. Yes, it is what it is ...but... The noir look skyscrapers don't say Y&R to me. How about a some earlier(flattering) clips of each castmember in B&W fading from one to the next as the color pose is superimposed over the top? eg Victor in his original cowboy look and then a couple of other clips throughout the years. A young Nikki on stage, a shot from the first wedding etc Highlighting the history and legacy of those characters. For newer cast members eg Brytni/Sean just find some clips where they look a bit different eg different hairstyles/haircuts In my mind it looks great !!
  11. Re the Paul reference. They had to explain why he was not there and that made some sense. Having him retire means that there is no need to mention him in police/crime stories. Christine can keep popping up with no real need to mention Paul. so for now the bases are covered. If fences are mended Paul can easily reappear. Speaking of police will Chance suddenly decide a la Nate to give up police work and enter the business world? Josh wants all his character involved in family or business stories.

  14. Lake Charles American-Press Lake Charles, Louisiana 07 Oct 1960 Drama Serial Entering 5th Season on TV The Edge of Night, KFDM-TV Channel 6's absorbing Monday- through-Friday dramatic serial (3:30-4:00 p.m.) is entering its fifth year of exciting drama entertainment for the daytime viewer. Combining suspenseful adventure with sensitive personal drama. The Edge of Night encompasses the full sweep of emotions as they work in the lives of Mike and Sara Karr, played by John Larkin and Teal Ames. Mike is a crusading young lawyer, employed by Grimsley Enterprises as corporation counsel. His outside interests center around the Citizen's Crime Commission, a group of citizens interested in good government. These interests involve Mike in a variety of assignments which expose him to the more unscrupulous elements of the town of Monticello and their hatred because of his crusade to make the city a decent place in which to live. Sara realizes that Mike is right in what he is doing and that his dedication is to be admired, nevertheless, she cannot lose the fear and anxiety that comes from not knowing whether or not he will end up the victim of some hoodlum's attack. Mike's awareness of the suffering which Sara is undergoing and his devotion to duty provides a: underlying conflict to the story, a conflict further intensified by the presence of Laurie Ann Karr, their year-and-a half old baby daughter whose welfare is uppermost in both parents' hearts. In coming months the story will focus on Mike's work to uncover a numbers racket, operated, not by common hoodlums, but by members of Monticello's social set; Theresa Vetter, a lovely but heartless woman, Victor Carlsen, handsome, rich, and charming, who dreams of becoming a crime "tycoon" in control of all racketeering in the city, Jenning Carlsen, Victor's younger brother, neurotic, almost psychotic, and completely under Victor's control. Subordinate to the major theme is the story of Judy Marceau, daughter of Acting Chief of Police Bill Marceau and Mike Karr's good friend. Judy is a case-worker for the Juvenile Authority and her modern ideas about young criminals put her in constant conflict with her father, with the Police Department, and notably, with young Police Lieutenant Ed Gibson. The Edge of Night is produced by Charles Fisher and directed by Richard Sandwick and Allen Bristoe. Writers are Irving Vendig and Carl Bixby.

  16. Seeing the GCAC set after several years, completely intact down to the furniture makes me wonder how long old sets are kept and where they are stored. At what point is it decided to destroy sets that are no longer in use? Is the Newman Ranch set still in storage? Nick's house? Lauren's apartment? etc I'm pretty sure that the original Chancellor set was destroyed because it was too old (and maybe even unsafe?) Quite possibly there are regulations about these things and the materials used back in the day are no longer considered acceptable. I wonder when it was decided that the original Foster and Brooks homes would no longer be used?

  18. KITTY KEENE, INC. (1937-41, CBS, Mutual) 15-minute episodes Premiere: September 1937 Final episode: April 1941 Writers: Walter K. Norman, Gunnar Hjerstedt Starring Beverly Younger (later Gail Henshaw and Fran Carlon) as KITTY KEENE The star of the show, though, was KITTY KEENE, an “ex-Ziegfeld Follies gal” who started her own detective business. Of course, since this was a soap, it took her umpteen weeks to solve each crime, but they weren’t just “lady stuff”–she regularly faced off against kidnapers, blackmailers and murderers. Kitty still beautiful, is the mother of a charming daughter, Jill, and the wife of Charles Williams, former newspaperman. Jill is married to Bob Jones, lieutenant of detectives. The daughter is a mother too. Tiny Miss Jones is Kit, Junior. Star of the show is Gail Henshaw, a young actress who forgot to count 10 during a quarrel with her fiance two years ago. Gail handed Robert Hughes her engagement ring - and the mitten - and headed for Chicago by plane. Gail was still in a huff when she landed, so, without even unpacking she marched over to NBC studios in the Merchandise Mart to ask for a lob. A few months later she was Kitty Keene. The scrap? That came out all right, too. Hughes lingeied in New York a month after Gail left;then he took a tip from Young Lochinvar, reversed Young L's route and headed west. Miss Henshaw became Mrs. Robert Hughes on Christmas Eve, 1938. Gail is that rara avis, a native New Yorker; she was born in Gotham August 8, 1912. She attended St. Agatha elementary and high school, went to Wellesley for a couple of years and then switched to the American Academy of Dramatic art, from which she graudated in 1933. At Wellesley Gail not only starred in dramatics, she directed campus plays, was in the choir, gave a hand to the crew and played basketball. Back in 1936, Gail was in stock in New York when a fellow player begged her to help him out on a hurry -up replacement in a dramatic presentation on a local station. She stayed two years, graduating to the networks. Current episodes in the serial deal with Kitty's problems as manager of "The Modern Woman ", a job which has estranged her unemployed husband and driven him to New York a n d consolation in the charms of Norma Vernack, a Javanese dancer. Further complications are stirred up by Kitty's decision to move to an elaborate apartment "on the other side of town" and taking the young Joneses with her. The move goes to Jill's head and Bob finds he doesn't fit in. A friend of Kitty's employer, adds to the situation by showing an interest in Kitty. The show is produced for the agency by Frank Dane, director and character actor who created the role of detective "Never -Fail" Hendricks for the Story of Mary Marlin. Dan Donaldson announces the serial and Clinton Stanley does production for NBC.
  19. The 88-2000 opening was hardly groundbreaking at the time, just some poses against a white background. I recall a kind of glittery effect in the early days that was a little chintzy. But it was the first major change and introduced the new logo. I do like the idea of Victor placing the necklace on Nikki- especially as the show has her enthralled when he gifts her with jewelry, but I wonder Eric would go along with it -in terms of sharing the screen time with Melody.
  20. I recall a kinda similar situation when Melissa George was promoting a primetime US series she had landed and when interviewed back in Australia, got pissed off when they showed a Home & Away clip and wanted her to talk about that. She was given a villain narrative along the lines of 'how dare she forget where she started, ungrateteful beyotch 'etc but I could see her side also. She could have gone along with it but I guess felt she had acheived something and didn't want/need to be reminded of her soap stint.
  21. Makes me think that the old GCAC is being used for this week only and the lounge will be a new meeting place replacing the ill conceived and ugly Glam Club.
  22. Chelsea and Daniel in an empty CL discussing Omega Sphere- is anyone the slightest bit interested on any level? Nice to see some extras at the GCAC. If only the budget would allow for it on a regular basis. And so far the women look decently dressed for once.Much better than in real life at the 50th party. Disgrace that Mariah and Tessa are not there. Devon in that mask....
