Snap Judgement at 10 am also won its timeslot. That lead CBS to revamp Splendored Thing to hopefully boost its rating and retain more of the ATWT lead in as well as a flow on to the rest of the afternoon. The Lucy Show replaced Candid Camera as 10 am lead in SFT expanded to 30 min at 12.30, TGL was moved to 2.30pm displacing Art Linkletter, Secret storm was moved to 3pm to replace To Tell the Truth and Art Linkletter sent to 4pm. CBS was now all soaps in the afternoon. It also meant that for the first time all 3 networks programmed a soap in the same timeslot. At 3pm it was AW v SS v GH. By Nov 68 CBS 9.2 NBC 7.5 ABC 5.5 Love Is A Many Splendored Thing was now #2 in timeslot. and CBS had its biggest margin since Aug 67 with 7 7 of the Top 10

  5. Poor NBC in Feb. All their soaps at the bottom with half the ratings of the Top 3. Morale must have been low at that time. Who was NBC daytime VP at that point?
  6. Seeing Bo & Pat in that clip brings up memories of that coupling. Obviously the plan was for them to be a major couple. They got the Paris remote etc but things changed. How long were they together? Why did they break up? Did Pat have any other love interests? I can't recall offhand until they brought back Tony and married them off. Did Jacquie lose her leading lady status post Bo?
  7. Variety Aug 27 1952 mentions Jean Gillespie as having recently joined the cast.
  8. Madeline Sherwood CONFIDENTIAL FOR WOMEN Emily "The Ugly Duckling" 1966
  9. Carolyn Weston, who wrote for Morning Star later authored a series (3) of books that formed the basis for 'The Streets of San Francisco' so I imagine she made a bit of money out of that. A TV Guide article from 65 says she had a 7 yr contract to write the show. Later she wrote for Days. The article says she was a struggling novelist when she took on the show but no details of how she got the gig. Her co writer was another novelist Jan Huckins .She and Weston wrote the novel "Face of My Assassin' in 1959. Huckins had written for Irna Phillips on radio.
  10. The Young Marrieds ??? Terry (Terri) Garr
  11. Angela always had her guard up. Even in her romances, she did not lose it. I guess that was the essence of the character. She didn't have any real vulnerabilities because she had closed off her emotions for such along time. That's how it was written and that's how Jane played it.
  12. The Doctors Eric .... Robert Burr Dec 1965
  13. @DRW50 Thanks for sharing. I have never seen this before. Remember they were also doing radio at that time in a separate broadcast. Kathy went through a lot of trauma before being hit by that truck!
  14. The 90 min format meant that for the first time AW changed its starting time. So in addition to committing to 90 min you had to possibly rearrange your soap viewing. AW was outrating The Doctors so many viewers were tuning in or switching over at 3pm. Just too many risks involved. They really should have stuck with the line up as it was and focused more on improving the writing and production of the shows themselves. That's exactly what ABC did with GH. And GL was strong because of the Dobsons. A pity the Corringtons didn't go to AW rather than SFT.
  15. Re Fi Core The writers are striking during Summer when networks are in rerun so no scripted shows are being affected. Of course later on it delays the start of new fall season episodes. And no primetime shows would dare take on fi core writers. The publicity and backlash would be too great. But daytime is a different scenario, with soaps are on air everyday and immediately affected which is where fi core comes into play. Those writers are settled into soaps, with no possibility or intention of moving on, so their status doesn't matter to them in terms of career. And I'm sure the understanding is that they will be looked on favorably in the future in terms of securing future gigs on the soap. Didn't this happen last time? Writers who went fi core stayed employed and worked alongside writers who had been striking?
  16. In the early days, the network was pushing for a murder/trial story to keep viewers glued to the set. The first proposal, quickly rejected, was that Eliot Carson would return and be murdered. Connie's prints would be found on the murder weapon and she would mutely stand trial for murder(not wanting to reveal that Allison was illegitimate)

  19. Thanks for clearing that up.
  20. Dressing rooms are most likely shared and if Doug had one to himself he probably lost it when he went recurring. it was probably just some last remaining boxes. It was probably awkward on both sides for him to make an appearance under the circumstances and he thought it best to stay away. Gonna defend Doug a little here, It seems he was a team player and well liked and it must have been difficult to slowly sees his character sidelined from male lead to glorified extra, especially when EB and PB remained front burner. And TPTB didn't have the courtesy to sit down and explain whether he was going to be used or not. and he didn't get a 40th episode when he was still around. He was wrong to speak out but understandable. Maybe she should have made amends and not let the twitter stans go on and on, and he might have at least got an invite to the 50th. But it seems there might be some Sony/CBS who wanted rid of him years ago.

  22. Actually just found out that Don was still in the story at least till around April 73.
  23. But didn't Colgate -Palmolive own the show from the debut? i think so. Retro did show the first episode/a b&w ep didn't they at some point? Don't know about the later episodes claims that NBC trashed them but it made sense to start the show from the color eps.
