Of Y&R's late 1980s big three recasts, I'd say Jess Walton was the most successful.

Seasons 3-5 were the height of popularity but weaknesses were showing. Aaron Spelling entire goal was to be bigger and better than Dallas and storytelling logic and acting ability went out the window. Aaron Spelling went all out to the biggest and best, mainly by cashing in on Diana-mania.

Alexandra maybe. Was she intended to be a new villainess? From what I've seen of Kobe/Long, Alexandra was introduced as a jet-setting socialite but I don't think she initially showed much interest in Spaulding Enterprises. Blake was a vixen when Sherry Stringfield was in the role. Agree. When I watched the Calhoun/Long/Curlee era in real time, I thought Maureen Garrett was one of the most beautiful women on daytime.

She had short arcs on Empire and This Is Us. In the 2000s a good number of 1980s primetime soap actors showed up on daytime. Does guest starring on Murder, She Wrote count?

I still can't figure out how a musical theater actor was cast in such a pivotal role and not a Friend of Jill or even a soap name. I think the friend Jill wanted was either not available or not interested, thus those in charge of casting going the new to daytime route.
