I'd say so. Remember 1994 was when Reilly's Days had really taken off and was about to blow up in the aftermath of OJ. Nobody I knew of the middle school/high school demographic back then was checking for the frat party, it was all about Reilly's Days. I thought Victor had the vasectomy during his marriage to Julia, and learned it wasn't successful around the time Julia miscarried a child Victor believed was fathered by Michael Scott.

I think the frat party started the following week. I cannot for the life of me understand why Bill Bell tried so hard to make Joshua Morrow happen from Fall 1994 to Spring 1996 when the real hotness on the show was Shemar Moore.

I thought Nikki the wedding crasher had fallen off the wagon but she didn't.

With Tracey Bregman's 40th anniversary coming up, we might see more of said scenes, and maybe even flashbacks.

So happy to read you're doing better. Looking forward to your thoughts on the remainder of Season 6, especially the Ava Gardner episodes. Her arc was one of the highlights of the series for me.

@Paul Raven ABC Tuesdays only seemed to stumble from 1982/83 to 1984/85, which overlaps w/ the peak seasons of The A-Team. ABC Tuesdays would rebound in 1985/86 when Who's the Boss took off and would be really cemented by 1988/89 with the breakout success of Roseanne.

For Y&R I think Cassandra Rawlins applies. Introduced March 1988, was front burner all of 1989 and most of 1990, killed off March 1991. Cassandra's final storyline had her tricking Brad into marriage and her death resulted in Brad inheriting her home and business.

I'm not familiar with As the World Turns before the Marland years, but did they do a better job with 1980s trends compared to their CBS P&G sister GL? Dallas influence - James Stenbeck introduced as the new villain. In the JR Ewing and His Copies thread, James Stenbeck was not mentioned so maybe he wasn't cut from the JR mold. Dynasty influence - wealthy widow Lucinda Walsh runs her late husband's business Supercouples - Holden/Lily during the Marland years, not sure who would fit before the Marland years. Action/adventure - not sure what would apply here

Bill Bell put Paul and Christine in each other's orbit in 1993 during the housing discrimination storyline. I think that pairing was set up because Michael Damian was on his way out. From what I've seen/read of Paul and Nikki's initial storyline, it was more troublemakers having a good time and I didn't think there was any genuine love there. I agree that Danny and Christine were genuine love.

Agree. Tracey Bregman 40th anniversary this month. Hopefully her anniversary episode will have some scenes not shown since their original broadcast.

It cannot be emphasized enough that Bradley taking over coincides with time slot rival Reilly's Days taking off in the ratings. That could be why 1994 was trying to cash in on the Spelling Fox shows which were at their peak that year. Bradley's big storylines culminated in the first half of 1995 but the tanking began in the second half of 1995.

Y&R isn't exactly known for discovering breakout talent and launching careers but there are a few "before they were stars" that might be mentioned during the 50th anniversary: Tom Selleck, David Hasselhoff, Shemar Moore, Eva Longoria.

CBS had two drama series in the 1980s that starred Golden Age Hollywood actresses yet one actress was allegedly quite the diva while the other actress was by all accounts loved by everyone. Check out the promo starting at 0:36. The contrasts could not be more apparent.

Is it just me or was the Ashley in the park/woods scene a dust off of Ashley wandering the rainy streets in 1985? Fall 1996 through the first half of 1997 was a lull. Thankfully things picked up in the second half of 1997 to lead into an excellent 25th anniversary year 1998.

We saw Sheila pregnant once on Y&R (Scott's child that was miscarried) and once on B&B (Mary Warwick). The rewrite children are Finn, Diana Marone, Daisy Fisher, and Ryder Fisher.

To tie the 50th anniversary into the storyline, I like the idea of a Jabot anniversary celebration with a gala. Maybe also a primetime special look back/reunion.

ABC was sold to Capital Cities in 1985 and Brandon Stoddard became president of ABC that year. By Fall 1985, Aaron Spelling was losing his clout at ABC as he was down to only four shows on the network (The Love Boat, Dynasty, Hotel, The Colbys). I have a feeling Brandon Stoddard was not a fan of Aaron Spelling and wanted the Spelling shows gone from ABC. It wasn't until Robert Iger became president of ABC in 1989 that the Spelling shows were totally gone from ABC with the ending of Dynasty and HeartBeat in Spring 1989.

1991/92 was a transition season for sitcoms, with four sitcoms reaching their highest finishes ever and five of the big 1980s sitcoms ending. CBS: Murphy Brown (3rd), Designing Women (6th), Major Dad (9th) got their highest finishes ever. This was the first season since 1981/82 that CBS had multiple sitcoms in the Top 10. ABC: Roseanne (2nd) was still going strong. New comedy Home Improvement (4th, tied w/ Cheers) was the breakout hit of the season. Full House (7th) got its first Top 10 finish (1991/92 was also its highest finish ever), and this was the season it moved from Friday 8 pm to Tuesday 8 pm. Coach (10th) got its first Top 10 finish. Who's the Boss and Growing Pains both were moved to Saturday and they ended this season. NBC: Cheers (4th, tied w/ Home Improvement first season) was still going strong but the rest of the sitcom lineup was not looking good. A Different World and Empty Nest fell out of the Top 10. The Cosby Show and The Golden Girls fell out of the Top 10 in what would be their final seasons. This season was also the end of Night Court.

At the height of primetime soaps (Fall 1982 to Spring 1985), Knots Landing set itself apart from the others with high emotional stakes character driven storytelling. Knots Landing may not have been the pop culture phenomenon and ratings grabbing monster hit that its parent show Dallas was, but I think the place Knots Landing has in television history is that of a spin off done right. Knots Landing carved its own identity separate from Dallas, and that's how its run and episode count pretty much equaled Dallas. Both shows ran 14 seasons, Dallas produced 357 episodes, and Knots Landing produced 344 episodes.
