Y&R: Longtime daytime actor joins in new 'mystery role'
UGH whyyyy??? LOL my first guess is a Tucker recast too. I wouldn’t be surprised if either Michael Easton and/or Kelly Monaco are next to join Y&R. @DRW50 definitely agree that Y&R is now feeling like ATWT’s final decade as well between the guest stars, short arcs, repetitive writing, having potential but always squandering it etc. OF COURSE it should be noted that Josh Griffin did serve as the associate HW during a good chunk of mid-00’s ATWT, go figure…..

ARTICLE: ‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Marc Cherry Details Evolution Of Writing Career On ‘Soapy Hosted By Rebecca Budig And Greg Rikaart’ (EXCLUSIVE)
I have a love/hate relationship with Marc Cherry’s work over the years. On the one hand I’ve definitely enjoyed and been entertained by his material over the years. On the other hand some of his work has definitely inspired some righteous indignation from myself or left me in the he cold. DH was definitely a huge success but in its later years I felt it was plagued by backstage drama and creative mistakes, which I always got the impression that Cherry was a like a toxic entitled diva who probably stirred some of that drama up. He seems more humbled now but it didn’t leave a good impression.

Y&R: Old Articles
Is Y&R the only soap with multiple golden eras? When I think of Y&R’s golden eras I always think of 1975-79, 1983-86, and 1990-spring 1994 as being the golden years for Y&R. Silver ages would be 1988-89, 1998-2001, and a Bronze Age from late 2002 to early 2004. I so meant to reply to your recent post in the B&B August thread after seeing we’re basically having the same feeling about both Y&R and B&B these days. Both shows are so embarrassing to watch compared to BTG (I really need to get more vocal/active in the monthly thread but everyone else seems to say it better 😁)

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Agreed. I feel like the 83-84 season was actually the real season all the big four primetime soaps were firing on all cylinders. Not really sure why Hotel ranked so high other than being a timeslot hit as St Elsewhere was also the better Wednesday night show…I guess something new although The Love Boat still came in at #17 while Fantasy Island was all the way down at #49.

B&B: Actor returning!
So true. Knowing Thudley if either Paris or a recast Zoe does ever return they’ll probably both go psycho over a psycho Thomas (Zoe already has displayed her own instability) so we can say the entire Buckingham family is unhinged and Thudley can boast how he has a love triangle between 3 psychos.

Y&R: August 2025 Discussion Thread
Victor was a Sharon fan until she went crazy between Adam, Tucker, and burning the ranch down. Always bothered me that their friendship was tossed aside from pure schlock value. Disappointed by Jill’s appearances this week. As good as it is to always see JW, of course JG’s current appalling writing has Jill be OOC when it comes this Cane crap. Is there a bottom to this trash can?

Y&R: August 2025 Discussion Thread
It’s bad there’s a tiny part of me that does hope there’s been a massive coverup at least for Damian’s death and he’s still alive. Perhaps JG’s successor will reveal this along with Chance being alive once Cane is murdered by crazed Juliet in that Veronica Landers style story I proposed last month?

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Caught a few minutes of today’s show and WOW why does Billy Flynn look like he is 50 years old from the styling choice? My God.

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
If JG had his way he’d probably kill off the entire cast except for Victor, Nikki, Adam, Chelsea, Billy, Sally, Kyle, Claire, and Phyllis and eliminate all sets except Crimson Lights and the Newman ranch. That way every day can be about Victor & Adam plotting against Billy and Kyle. Phyllis only survives to just to torture us as viewers.

Primetime ratings from the 70's
NBC really was struggling wasn’t by this point? Only 4 shows in the top 30 with their only 10 top entry being their Sunday night movie title. Was this the 1st ABC scored as overall #1? Seems the older CBS sitcoms from the early 70’s were starting to age and flail here. AITF dropped to #11 after 5 seasons at #1. Obviously a show like Rhoda lost a good chunk of its viewers with its bad creative decisions this season but even MTM’s final season, Carol Burnett, Maude, Bob Newhart, and Phyllis all look like they’re floundering. @Paul Raven was correct CBS moving kind of struck a knife to their once highly successful and high rated Saturday night line up especially moving shows around on a whim.

Y&R: July 2025 Spoilers
I’m so over JG at Y&R he’s basically becoming worse than each of our other notorious regimes with each passing day. Killing off Chance to me signals how bad JG is as a writer. Are we even sure he was talented in the first place? Asking @DRW50

BREAKING: Days of our Lives Renewed through Season 63 (2027-2028)
We all know with Days’ taping schedule that actually means six years 😆 I’m so happy for Days to continue to thrive and with the Ron era behind us I’m hoping for the continued best. Now @Taoboi where are my “Josh Griffith Dismissed!” and “Thudley Retires!” headlines??

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
Meanwhile over here I just feel sorry for the cast having to act out this garbage all summer long. Obviously JG must be channeling his inner JER with this whole story just playing out in the same location and the same dialogue being repeated over and over and over again and yet barely a day or two have gone by. Like Days and Passions 20 years ago under Reilly’s pen you probably could miss a whole week of Y&R and not miss anything at all at the moment. At this rate wake me up when September ends.

All My Children Tribute Thread
I seem to recall it was suspected (or outed?) the the producer in question was Christopher Cullen, who had been a long time director turned producer for GL but had a history of working at both OLTL and AMC as a director/production assistant in the late 90's when McTavish was at both shows before at so he would have been familiar with her history. Cullen later had a bit of colorful run as a producer for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills where he was known to instigate some drama. LOL that would be wild if someone did that to her. Apologies all I felt compelled to go back and read this mess tonight here and gained some new insights after seeing some recent McTavish comments. 🙈 The memoirs are basically like a spooky campfire story, except one about about a very tormented, twisted soap writer who ended up very bitter.

R.I.P.: Eileen Fulton (ATWT - Lisa Miller Grimaldi)
Not going to lie I literally teared up and choked when I saw this. The OG soap diva. At least 3 generations of my family including myself lived to see what that darn Lisa was up to on ATWT, maybe 4 if you include my great grandmother. @DRW50 Well said! Can’t add much more except may Eileen RIP after such a long and vivid life.

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
In Y&R history not since Latham in 2007. Obviously JG has hit rock bottom but ultimately there’s no one in line for a replacement anytime soon. Let’s see how far this bottomless pit goes down.

Falcon Crest
Backstage drama is right @DRW50 I do also wonder how the show would have gone on had Cochran and Marcus gotten along better too. I love the gothic feel of Seasons 2 and 3 and over all dark/moody ambiance with ongoing mysteries. Unfortunately once Marcus left and Cochran was fired the following producers Peterson and Whitaker subsequently gave us bright 80’s pastels and average melodrama. I think Freilich and Surnow came closest to recapturing that feel, except with mixed to negative results. Season 8 was just a very terrible attempt to go back to Season 1.

Lord I could totally see JG trying to write a Veronica/Sarah the maid story with Juliet for Cane and Lily….wait I shouldn’t speak things into existence 🤣

Y&R: July 2025 Discussion Thread
I don’t think CK has that much power considering on how much JG has stifled the Lily character time and time again despite CK’s tremendous growth as an actress. Remember CK only came back full time once DG/Cane was gone. I can’t imagine she’s entirely happy especially as she thought Lame was a dead end for Lily. I wonder what kind of lies JG told BF LOL so far he really isn’t working out is he? He’ll be gone within a year and we’ll all be wondering why, just why.
