  1. Speaking of Roxie, I always wished they had brought her back at some point and I never quite understood why she went crazy in the first place(then again, it runs in the family). I'm surprised no one didn't during the 90's.
  2. It's actually always been very puzzling to me about the unnecessary deaths of Julia and later Sally. As for Julia, they had two later famous actresses play the part yet still screwed it up. A more memorable instance of another casting screw-up is when Phelps let Justin Chambers go as Nick Hudson and replaced him with someone she'd worked with on Santa Barbara and GL together if I recall right. I believe Chambers has the last laugh on that one.
  3. 1982 was pretty rough for AW was it not? You had the entire Matthews clan eradicated(Jim died, Pat and Alice left town, Julia died in a bomb explosion!), offbeat tales and unintriguing capers. The show tried to develop a triangle between Mac, Cecile's mother Elena(Maeve McGuire) and Mac's secretary but it fell apart out of nowhere. Rachel/Steve/Alice Part XXII was painful to watch. On the flip side the show did gain Cass and Felicia that year but one early review I remember seeing on the old WOST site was quite critical. They referred to Felicia as "a big diva of nothing". Going back to the subject of Blair Baker, I don't even remember there being two different actresses who played the role. Must have been around the same time they recasted Maggie three, possibly four times before writing her out.
  4. Ah the Ben Reade treatment! I just remember the Blair character as taking over the show for five minutes(stalking Gary&Josie, her fling with Matt, being an agent for Carl) then being gunned down mysteriously after she gunned down Josie. But I couldn't think of her name, so thanks Carl!
  5. I liked some of the early Cass&Frankie stuff and the Christy Carson caper, but their years of more or less marital bliss sucked the life out of both of them. Remember that insidious medical malpractice lawsuit story? Having back to back serial killers in 1996 really didn't work at all for AW. Does anyone remember why Fax did all those killings anyways? I recall he also killed Morgan's girlfriend and Gary's ex-wife but I can't think of her name at all.
  6. Ah thanks I thought she did but I see where she said she doesn't. Who knows, it may have come from a directive from above Phelps such as either Fitts or Susan Lee and Ohlmeyer at NBC at the time.
  7. Quite a contradiction to one of first interviews as EP of Y&R where she did openly take credit for Maureen and Frankie's deaths. Winning fans over perhaps?
  8. Ah thanks I wasn't sure. If I recall right Jacker was the lovely writer who wrote a very shoddy embarrassing exit for Pat with the publication of Jamie's tell all book along with the Rachel/Mac/Alice/Steve quad which was an epic blunder. Those low ratings fell even further!
  9. Any love for Laura Moss? I actually liked her Amanda better than Tucci who I thought was too forgettable although she ok with Grant. Brian Krause was absolutely horrible at Matt and I've never really cared for Krause too much either. Going back to Laura Malone, she looks great! Wasn't she fired for weight gain back '84?
  10. I miss ATWT just about everyday:
  11. And request they'd be taken off Youtube immediately. Actually that '93 scene between Liz and Jill reminded me of something. Y&R never really has had a matriarch in the same vein as Nancy Hughes, Bert Bauer, Alice Horton, or Mary Matthews has it? Liz does remind me a little of Ada from AW though. I guess there is always Mary Williams but who in their right mind would try to share coffee with her?
  12. As far as Lester and Bregman go I have to wonder what happened in 1984 with the first go around-maybe he felt she was beneath him? I'm guessing by '89 when Jack and Lauren went on that infamous ski trip looking for Brad Lester probably was in disinterested in the show altogether. A lot of other soaps-AW, Edge of Night, GL, and ATWT had a TV station and often had stories revolving around that. I often wonder why Bell didn't incorporate the idea in as well given both him and his wife's background.
  13. Hey YRfan23 I dug up that Sheila alternative history. Some of it sounds interesting some of it reads fanfic-ish but still a fun read:
  14. I have the May 26th 1995 episode of B&B If I recall right Sheila took the Forrester family hostage the following week or so. It's funny a while back I dug up a fanfic-ish alternative history for Sheila had Dylan lived that lasted through Sheila being on the show through at least 1998, I should share it sometime.
  15. Most likely this ep probably featured Nick and Sharon hanging around Crimson Lights at some point between John's stroke and Cole and Victoria.
  16. That promo is a real gem with bearded, sadistic Michael! One has to remember that from 1997-2004 Michael was the town's sleazy, deviant lawyer who still had a strong preoccupation with Christine and hung around with other town pariahs(Phyllis and Diane). Michael and Lauren worked until they were oddly sanctified and became morally superior. Were we really suppose to believe Michael and Lauren would be terrified by Tom and Sheila? Kevin's original storyline was creepy and great to watch. I think a redemption storyline would have worked if it was written properly. Instead all we got was Kevin getting beat up in jail followed by him pretending to save Lily with everyone suddenly feeling sorry for him and praising him.
  17. Lauren's 1990 and 1993 openings remain epic but some reason I've always disliked the 1991 Lauren opening. I don't know if it's because of Danny and Cricket randomly kissing or the fact it closed out with John Abott's awkward solo shot before Nikki's closing shot. Should have kept Jack with that scarf and Victor instead!
  18. I haaaaated every time I heard Jill tell Katherine "Oh mother..." I can understand them trying to at least build better relations, but it was stretched way beyond belief. I haven't seen much of the feud over Derek, but the triangle with Rex was fascinating because even though he was used for deceitful purposes they both really did genuinely fall in love with him. Rex was a voice of reason for both of them.
  19. Not being entirely black and white is really truly what made the Katherine/Jill rivalry over the years so great. Jill was a prideful, selfish vixen while Katherine was a wicked, bitter old hag. They both were wrong but believed they were right. Whoever anointed Katherine sainthood(I think it was either Latham or MAB) had a very horrible misunderstanding of who Katherine really was.
  20. Thanks so much as well I loved the whole episode(Dru dancing!) as well. Jill couldn't kick David in the groin so this was the next best thing. All the physical abuse David got was well deserved for all the abuse he put everyone else through.
  21. I'm hoping the episode where Jill tortures David in the most clever way in the hospital resurfaces. Sally was one of Bell's best creations and I always wondered if a Y&R equivalent would have worked. I don't think though early Sally was really comparable to Rose though the larger than life element started early on, and of course as time went on whenever Sally would attempt to intimidate or be vindictive she was usually standing next to a swimming pool or Lake Como.
  22. Speaking of that I've always wondered if Sally Spectra ever would have fit in on Y&R. That '91 episode is a real classic with Brad one-upping Jack but I felt bad for Paul. Poor Cassandra's death became a travesty of sorts, although I believe Bell had used the tactic of a judge dying before signing the papers somewhere before(Victor and Nikki's first divorce?) to create a twist.
  23. Alan went to jail for the attempted murders of Roger and Phillip as well as Blake I believe. Besides Josh and Harley, we had Phillip being framed for the murder of Neil Everest(Alan pulling the strings) going on the run, Alan-Michael and Blake dealing with Blake's deceptive wicked ex Gary, and the beginnings of the Roger/Mindy affair.
  24. The writing is really what did Alan in. Raines had some great moments, but pretty much after Alan's heart attack story there 1999/2000 the writing for Alan was never suitable and thus became more of a caricature overtime(especially after Phillip's death and then becoming main antagonist for the Jonathan and Tammy WTH?)
  25. Whereas Raines' Alan came off as too whimsical in later years(see Alan making perfect baskets in front of James!) I always found that Pilon's Alan came off as being too mean and vile. He simply didn't have the charm, and I found Pilon's Alan and Nadine too unrealistic although I think I would have bought if it was Bernau still in the role.
