From almost twenty-one years ago here are recaps from the first two weeks of October 1994 from Soap Opera News: October 3rd-7th: Ryan takes the bait Victoria visits Ryan at his office complaining about her flagging sex life with Cole. She hasn’t made love to Cole since he found out about the centerfold. Remembering his marriage to Vicki, Ryan can’t help but wonder whether they’d still be married if Victoria had been as sexually uninhibited as she is now. He offers to talk to Cole on Victoria’s behalf but she doesn’t want to arouse suspicion in Cole that they may be more than just friends. Nina spills the beans Meanwhile, after dreaming that Ryan finds out about the baby and angrily lashes out at her, Nina decides to tell him the truth. Shaken up by the dream she expects that Ryan won’t forgive her for keeping the news from him. But much to Nina’s surprise and relief, Ryan is sympathetic and only regrets that he hadn’t been there to support his wife in her grief. Chris goes Vietnamese Chris introduces Keemo to a typical American dinner. When Keemo notices Paul entering the apartment, he invites Chris to a typically Vietnamese dinner, hoping that Paul will recognise that he too, is in the race for Chris’ heart. Meanwhile Chris is being pursued by Danny. When he spots Chris and Paul dancing at Gina’s and notices that Chris is wearing an engagement ring, he vows to win her back. Brad chases Ashley Beset by marital problems of her own, Ashley tells Brad that Blade has been untruthful. He let her befriend Mari Jo without mentioning she was once Blade’s lover. Saddened by Ashley’s news, Brad threatens Blade, saying he regrets not marrying Ashley himself. Jack’s flashback Jack is served tea in his army mess kit cup when he visits Luan for a romantic dinner. He explains that he tried desperately to trace her after his letters came back to him “return to sender” and tells Luan that he never wants to lose her again. Victoria says au revoir Fed up by her husband’s disinterest, Victoria packs her bags and threatens to leave him. Cole insists that running away won’t change anything, but Victoria says she can’t stay with a man who continues to berate her like a child. Cole retaliates by making love to his wife, having forgotten, for the time being anyway, that their marriage is in trouble. October 10th-14th: War of the Abbotts Jill and John prepare to slug it out in court. Jill claims divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty while John serves papers accusing Jill of adultery with a “John Doe”. She is advised by Silva to live the life of a hermit as John will no doubt have her under surveillance in the hope of finding evidence of her philandering. Kay offers to be friend Jill but she does this only to pass on useful information to John. Nick goes all the way While Sharon slips into sexy lingerie for her date with Nick, Doris fears that he’ll take advantage of her daughter. Sharon assures her mother that Nick isn’t like her last boyfriend who left her pregnant at the age of 16. But Sharon is unable to ignore her mother’s warning and when Nick tries to seduce her at the stables, she gets cold feet and asks to be taken home. The next day at the coffee-house, Sharon is devastated to hear Amy boasting to her about her night of passion with Nick. Hope's walk gone wrong Hope is reminded of her vulnerability when she is terrorized and mugged by two thugs after wandering into an unknown neighborhood. She is saved by policemen patrolling the area, but returns home defeated. She tells Victor that she will terminate the pregnancy. Round one to Jill In the courtroom John and Jill hurl accusations at one another. At the end of it, Jill is grant-ed temporary custody of Billy. Meanwhile, Kay approaches Jill as part of a ploy to win her friendship. But Jill isn’t fooled and sends her away. Later Silva advises Jill that Kay may prove an invaluable ally when the judge calls for someone to testify to her parenting skills. Jill is troubled by a subpoena served on Jed which could reveal all about her affair. Ryan lends an ear Ryan is visited by Victoria who again confides in him about her ongoing marital problems. She also tells Ryan that she regrets ever giving him up. Later when Victoria learns that Nina miscarried, she’s left pondering whether Ryan’s marriage will survive the loss of the baby. Meanwhile, Chris tries to ease Nina’s worry that without the baby her marriage is over.

I didn't mean to post that twice lol. I'm still reformatting that 1997 archive file but I do have that both Ashley Jones and Sabryn Genet both made their debut on 2/18/97 and both Megan and Tricia took an instant disliking for Jill. It's interesting there was no break between the transition from Davidson to Epperson yet there were gaps between Epperson and Shattuck and Shattuck and Davidson. Davidson was even still in the opening credits for good month and a half while Epperson was already on. Shattuck's first story upon Ashley's return from Paris was because Dina had come back to Genoa City. Ashley was still harboring a lot of resentment and anger towards both Dina and Mari Jo and still trying to understand Blade/Rick. She also didn't like Nikki and Brad being together. She started moving first seeing a fellow lab co-worker named Adam Hunter as played by Grant Cramer who previously played the infamous Shawn Garret before it went nowhere. She also had a date with a dayplayer character named Steve that had no further continuance.

I previously noted somewhere, maybe about 100 pages ago lol that Heather Tom had left Y&R in early '97 and her final airdate was 2/21/97 and eventually returned on 10/2/97. The recast, Sarah Aldrich made her debut on 4/2/97 and only lasted until 7/17/97. Her last scenes were of finding out with Nick that Victor and Diane had become coupled, she didn't even an exit before the show put Victoria in a holding pattern until Tom returned. It was only mentioned later on that Victoria had left town again to handle Newman's international business and take another break from Cole, enough for Cole and Ashley to start an affair when Cole approached Ashley to be the subject/model for a novel he was writing. Shattuck's final airdate was 2/22/99, the same day as Sandra Nelson's.

Going back in time here Brenda Epperson left Y&R on 12/21/95 and they gave the character Ashley a break until the infamous Shari Shattuck made her debut on 3/12/96. The opening was updated just for Shattuck! Before: After: I'm also reformatting some 1997 information I have found to be able to post here I should have it posted by tomorrow.

LMAO It was just as thrilling as Billy's "gambling addiction" that lasted a whopping 11 episodes! Davetta was phenomenal. What Dru's daughter should be, and always should have been. CK will never be anything but a miscast joke. LOL oh wow I thought I had blocked Billy the gambler out of my mind. If people think Burgess Jenkins is the worst they should go back and rewatch Scott Seymour! That story and the performance by Seymour was absolutely atrocious before Billy got shipped off to Hong Kong. Latham had really, really bad habit of starting a story or throwing out ideas without zero followup. Victor's spiritual awakening/epilepsy Plumb's murder, Ji Min's murder, someone sabotaging the Newman jet to make it crash with Nick on board, Cane and Nick keeping shady secrets, David Chow etc. are just the tip of the iceberg. Davetta was indeed wonderful. Khalil was okay as the naive, annoying Lily who I think did her best work with Graziadei. Goddard has always sucked the what little life she has in her. The fact Khalil publicly insulted Sherwood ("She needs Jesus in her life!") was awful and since then I've had a disdain for Khalil and had no sympathy for her during the 2012 fiasco where she was almost fired. In fact, she should have been but at least Mishcel Morgan has become far more dominant and Khalil been able to pull off a bitchier Lily.

Just of our curiosity after asking in this in a thread I did about Days but what made you start watching GL and what made you stop? For myself it was the intriguing Sonni/Solita caper and although I use to be ashamed to admit it but the Josh/Reva saga also suckered me in. So did Ed and Maureen, and Vanessa's hopeless relationship with Alan with a complete class act exit before coming back with Billy. Alan and Alex were just so fascinating at that time they made great foils to the rest of Springfield. What made me quit in the late summer/early fall of 2008 was the fact I was tired of Peapack. The show also felt like it had no overall narrative whatsoever and felt like scenes happened spontaneously or were improved. There was a nice little story someone making a movie on Reva's life and we had Josh and Reva going down memory lane complete with 1989 flashbacks, but that was about it. I had already reduced my watching since the year before with the Coopers being constantly shoved down our throats and Dylan/Harley affair, but Peapack fatigue, Reva's post-menopause pregnancy, and that idiotic character that was what, Z, G, or V otherwise known as Grady finally did it in for me.

Three characters that I'm surprised haven't come back yet: -J.T. It took me a long time to grow on J.T. but the sexy bad boy definitely won me over as he transformed into Paul Williams 2.0. I actually liked him and Victoria together, even if the story-line had become muddled in 2009. J.T. and Mac were boring as hell both rounds, and I'm surprised we haven't had him drop back into town. Then again, doesn't he still have full custody of Reed? I guess that would unfortunately put him on Victor's hit list for the next doppelganger... -Nathan Hastings. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised at all, but it would have been nice if he had been Leslie's secret new husband. if he and cousin Devon were the ones fighting over Hilary and Leslie with a exasperated Neil trying to act as a good patriarch. -Cole Howard. Why in all of Victor's schemes to break up Billy and Victoria he never brought back Cole is beyond me.

Early 2006 was pretty good when Latham first took the reins. We had the Lily paternity reveal thanks to Phyllis' big mouth, the JT/Victoria affair, Colleen vs. Kevin, Sharon taunting Nick with the truth by wearing Phyllis' lingerie etc. Even the early face cream stuff was good. Once summer hit, the show fell apart fast between Brad vs. the Nazis and Victor's seizures. Jack and Phyllis seperated/divorced in 2004 between Phyllis' loyalty to working at Newman and Jack allowing Diane to custody of Kyle as well as accepting her bailout money. However, they remained an on-off again item through 2006.

It was an interesting plot point for Christine to come in and aid with Daniel's legal troubles in spite of her history with Phyllis. It was also an example of how Phyllis was written at the time-a vixen with a sharp edge yet haunted by the mistakes of her past and remained in control. The character ended up regressing quite a bit during the Latham and MAB tenures. Cassie's death was indeed such a waste and only done for a ratings and attention stunt but has ending up affecting Y&R like Maureen's death on GL did. I think Nick and Sharon both had definitely different coping mechanisms which created the divide. However, my favorite grieving moment did occur with Sharon. It was when Larry came back to town and gave Sharon a wild motorcycle ride through the wilderness.

Thanks for sharing these 2005 vids, I've been catching up with them all. Even though the show wasn't in the best state at the time and was making terrible mistakes left and right the nostalgia is still there. Plus it is nice to see classic Y&R staff credited as opposed to what we have now. Daniel & Lily on the run remains a surprise highlight from that summer.

I've read that Eve's final exit in 1984 was her leaving town with Rick Daros giving them both a strange but happy ending as the fled town together after stealing money from Victor not sure how correct that is. Of course what I do wonder is I know Cole was shown in the early 80s was it written he could be possibly be Victor's son? Thanks for those late '90 episodes, the 1990 Xmas one was indeed reaired in 2000(Y&R's Christmas Classics usually ran 10 years apart there 1996-2002).

The more I've seen of Marguerite Ray the more I feel bad she was fired. I enjoyed Redd too but after Ray had been on the show for so long I feel like she still could have held own through Mamie's stories in the 90s. Talking about old Y&R with my grandma I had to correct about Mamie's exact relation to Dru and Olivia as she remembered them being their mother. Too bad Mamie wasn't given any children herself or had some secret child(with John?) she gave up.

It's funny I read many times over the years Brittany was a love interest of Jack yet I haven't ever seen any scenes of it yet, mainly Brittany's interaction with her Rawlins family side. Her biggest claim to fame is probably the purse twirling in the credits. Then again Cassandra tangled with Victor and Brad which wasn't as fully developed they could have been. I think Sheila could have tangled with at least another man in her life...maybe David? Cassandra and Jill would have been a bitchfest, probably similar to Jill and Nikki. Jill probably would have called Cassandra a gold-digger and probably would have little time for her.

Thanks so much for reuploading and sharing these amazing 1990 episodes! A reminder of why Y&R became #1 and why it stood out from the rest, even when it had storylines like Katherine/Marge going on. Didn't Skip and Carol actually get their baby back when Nan realized she wasn't up for the task? As for Skip and Carol, I read one source that Skip was mentioned to have died in a motorcycle accident in 1991 but I have never, ever been able to actually verify that claim and I presume it be false. Carol stopped appearing in 1992 or so and was largely replaced by Connie Wayne. Connie has been more mentioned than actually shown and played by at least three or four different actresses, the last one in 2011 was significantly de-aged compared to the previous actresses.

Dennis Partalo's first airdate was 5/1/97, and I believe Zaslow's final episode was 3/28/97 when Amanda broke off her engagement to Roger. Not sure if this has been posted but the highlight aside from Amish Reva hijinks was the fact Ed and Nola had some pretty bad blood between each other:
