  1. not gonna lie....Roger/Alan is probably the number one reason I want more of the Dobson's work to surface. I don't quite get how that all developed. I believe there's a similar pic with Maeve looking straight ahead, but I usually see that in black and white. I don't know why, but it's hard to find Billy/Vanessa photos.
  2. Thank you! I'm not sure I've ever seen this picture in color!
  3. In looking it up, Springfield is a fairly common name. According to wiki, Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver also took place in a Springfield (not to mention, The Simpsons). I'm guessing whenever Guiding Light moved from Selby Flats to Springfield, somewhere USA, didn't ever really think we'd care where in the USA it was. Second question...please tell me they didn't fire Chris Bernau in 1984. They just couldn't have been that stupid.
  4. LOL....Well....actually I kind of get that. They wanted to represent Springfield as a smaller town (as small as a town could be with multiple conglomerate HQ's, an international airport and the former queen of an island nation in residence). They never wanted it to be the capital city.
  5. When did GL really embrace that they were located in Illinois? I was rewatching the end of the Eli Simms story, and Bert has a curious line. They're talking about Bill having received a speeding ticket on the way home, and Bert says "it was a small town in Illinois". I guess it could've been a slip by Charita, but it just seems curious.
  6. SOD got to the point for a while where subscribers got a different cover. That's how I got a Jack/Carly cover once. Can't blame ATWT/GL fans for not buying a mag that for years had barely covered their shows anyway. You'd get half a page combined for ATWT/GL, meanwhile there'd be three interviews with DAYS stars about their latest burp.
  7. Is that Robin Mattson with Ben as Hope?
  8. I don't know if I ever knew, but for some reason I thought he'd been driving drunk. Thanks!
  9. Or Vanessa and Rita. Whew...that would've been epic. Can someone remind me how Ed hurt his hand?
  10. I think there's a over-the-top quality to their romance and acknowledged focus on them by the show that pushes a couple into "super" couple status. In addition to the likeability/rootability factor.
  11. Sweet baby Jesus, I swear it took 3 years for Adam's paternity to come out completely, but IIRC, some of that was due to HBS' maternity leave coming on the heels of needing to recast Tom. I know I have problems with the praise for the Dobson's GL, but that is mostly because I remember their ATWT tenure, which was filled with wacky adventures (sigh, I can still see Barbara hallucinating in 1800's garb FCOL).
  12. @Paul Raven thanks for the scan. I'd never seen such an early interview of Marland's. BTW, who is in the picture? I can't place them at all.
  13. What era of what show are we talking about? Or just in general for both? As much as I love ATWT, I think his best moment was when Kelly nailed Nola on GL. I swear that scene went on for 10 minutes uninterrrupted, with Kelly just dragging her for filth. It was really the first time I "got" it.
  14. Re: Bill Bauer---are we sure Ed Bryce would've been open to coming back full time at any point after they killed Bill off circa 1970? I've always meant to ask, as I've never seen any interview of his. He obviously came back to usher Hilary in, and he did the brief stint in 1983, but I don't really know what he did otherwise.
  15. eee....then again, I think he'd also laid out Carly's backstory
  16. I'm not sure when they changed the credits, or how long his story ideas where used. From what I recall, he was rumoured to have his stories plotted a year in advance.
  17. His second ATWT run would've been 1985 to March 6 1993 (his death).
  18. Point taken. I haven't seen enough of LePlat's work to judge if he could've given Andy more layers. I do tend to forget Marland had a "primer" for ATWT in that time he had before the Dobson's showed up.
  19. Well, one could have said the same thing about Craig. Or Roger. From what I've seen, Andy seemed to have real feelings for Hope. Obviously Andy wouldn't have been some "deep history" dive into GL's past, but it would've been an on ramp to bringing back Holly sooner (had MG wanted to) or Barbara, and played across the canvas---Ed and Mike watching Hope fall for him after her marriage to Alan ended, Maureen's perpetual need to see the good in people irritating them both; Billy and Ross livid at the effect on Vanessa and Trish, Katie realizing she was still damaged from the end of that romance, Alex feeling some need to keep A-M's legacy safe having her join forces with Mike and give them that romance that was teased. I don't doubt Marland had the same respect for GL as ATWT, he just didn't have the same tools. Other than the Bauers and perhaps Sara, I can't think of characters that pre-dated the Dobson era on canvas at the time.
  20. Now I remember having discussed Marland's papers ending up in UW-M a while ago in the thread. I don't know if the UW would digitize them and make them accessible to the general public. That would be fascinating to read.
  21. sigh...I wish Tom (or anyone) had also run into some long term document for Marland's GL. LOL..."Clem".
  22. Two, maybe two and a half. I'm surprised he didn't at least do the Phillip reveal. I'm not really sure what history he could've tapped into at that point. He fleshed out Ross by giving him a past with Vanessa. It seemed like the plan was to go Mike/Jennifer. Marland really didn't have a Bob/Kim on the canvas when he came to GL. The Dobsons had kind of round-robin'd the characters to death by then. I still boggle at the Mike/Liz/Justin/Jackie/Alan merry go-round. I think he definitely would've brought back Ted LePlat had he had the time. Marland loved pot-stirring bad boys.
  23. Or a very lame Hallmark movie. lol While I can't stomach those scenes with Matt---I found myself smiling at some of the original Vanessa peeking out with Michael. Spoiled, sulky and demanding her own way. MK deserved so much better.
  24. like I'm supposed to believe Matt could even spell poetry...RME I believed that as much as Vanessa hanging out in jeans and playing badminton or whatever it was on her funeral reel (which they practically stole from Mo's funeral, but I digress... double RME) Vanessa would've curled up with the London Times to do the crossword in ink.
  25. Amanda is only in a handful of episodes around the end of 2000. Peyton List assumed the role in December 2001. She appears just as Carly's leaving Oakdale for France to wind up in the Spa. Her arrival stopped Craig from pressing Carly to accompany her on the trip. Hunt Block didn't start until mid-2000, ergo Lucy wasn't in town.
