Parros hasn't been given anything to do. Other than try and clean up after John Schneider. I honestly can't recall him even having a true conversation with his wife or son.

I don't disagree---I've seen cardboard boxes with more personality than the Cryers. But TPTB having giving us no reason to root for Candace outside of the Cryers either. She's treated her mother like dirt, she's apparently abandoned her young son, and until the last fifteen minutes last night, I wasn't sure she'd ever had any intention of paying back the mortgage and not leaving her brother holding the bag. I'd like to think Perry simply bit off more than he could chew deciding he had to introduce his cast and their oversized personalities all at once, instead of say, concentrating on Hannah's entry into this "rarefied air"/new world and meet the Cryers more slowly. But from the little I've seen of Perry, it seems like he cannibalized some previous works, sticking the plot from "The Family That Preys" with an urban comedy cast. But I'm leaning more toward seeing Perry as a black Hogan Sheffer---the man who never met an original idea and couldn't stand genuine human emotion instead treating every moment like an absurd dark comedy.

Yeah, that was a marked improvement. No wonder that all the dumb rich kids were completely absent from the eppy. Crystal Fox is really the reason to watch this. TS is obviously levels above the under 30 set, but Candace is written so viciously without remorse it's hard to find any reason to even remotely care about her or her relationships with her family.

Not as much explained as inferred. I have no idea exactly how her brother thinks she's paying the mortgage. I think she may have told him her "boyfriend" wanted to pay for everything and get her a car, but I can't swear. My attention tends to wander. There should be another lesson about showin' a stiffy re: choking during sex while trying to make a blackmail payment....but it's a little awkward.

5. If you're gonna mortgage Momma's house so your hooker sister can get her law degree, make sure she does a volume business.

^^^oy vey....the lessons I could learn from this show.... 1. never order a hooker on your birthday. 2. never let your black maid or latina chef forget who's the boss. 3. never have kids because they're just gonna end up a) dumber than dirt addicts or c) a closeted gay. 4. always keep sanitizer handy---you never know where a naked rich boy has been.

I promise I will never make fun of Jesse Metcalfe's acting again. All three of the family's sons are bland, boring and monotone. At least Metcalfe can act like he's yelling about something he cares about. I get that on a shoestring budget, you take a chance with young actors. But someone in casting really spent more time on getting benefits than evaluating acting ability. I can't believe I'd watch Smash over this.

I get that---but that's hardly exclusively a "rich person" problem. Plenty of poor folk don't give a crap about family and only look out for themselves. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the "haves" and "have nots". Hannah speaks to one of her children, and the kids have some kind of loyalty to each other it seems. Problem is there's nothing in the Cryers that make them the least bit likeable. Or more importantly, interesting. Two self-destructive idiot children and two self-serving viper parents. I'm not seeing anything unique. And considering how wealthy and privileged the Cryers are supposed to be, this show feels positively claustrophobic.

And she wasn't even on last night, to my recollection. The main thing that disturbs me is that I don't get any feeling of family in the Cryers. Yes, I understand there's dysfunction....but even naked boy and dumb-wanna-be-fashionista girl don't act like they ever liked one another. I kind of snickered when the daughter warned in her most determined Barbie-doll voice---"you know what happens when I feel bad". Like her head's gonna start twisting around and vomiting like Linda Blair in The Exorcist.

The dialogue is beyond atrocious. I guess this is how Perry thinks he's pulling some Downton Abbey vibe...when his characters deliver their lines in the same tone of voice, no matter what? Note to set designers---just because you stage x number of seating areas in a space, it does not make the stage look bigger.

Well...I didn't want to be a complete homer. I will say, making Jack such an hormonally driven teenager around Molly made him look like a chump. I think ATWT was going through HWs like underoos about this time. So whoever may have intended to write Jack/Molly might not have been around that long.

I think a lot of that had to do with HWs not knowing WTF to do with Molly. She ran the gamut from "wrongly imprisioned" to "batshit crazy". Molly kind of got neutered to hook her up with Jake a couple of years later. Carly and Molly rarely converged in the same story. They kind of interacted with separate spheres of characters. I'm not really sorry, since the incestuousness of ATWT could be smothering at times.

Nah---all of Candace's blackmail is over a ONS with Jim. My bet is that his father's white though...as is Candace's.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with much of it. I'm not overly familiar with Tyler Perry's programs, but it makes the acting on Dallas 2.0 look like the Royal Shakespeare Company. And visually, I haven't seen anything look as bad since the horrible travesty of SMG's Ringer. I don't understand how you go from the opening shot of an impressive estate to the dark, painted-over-plywood looking sets.

WHY is Crystal Fox in that hideous wig? Is there some rule "maid hair" has to be fugly, and "bible class hair" is cute and snappy?
