  1. I've heard that as well. But I think there's a difference. George W. Bush blundered Katrina because he was incompetent. Trump is blundering Puerto Rico because he's incompetent AND racist.
  2. At this point, it's like watching Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.
  3. Honestly, tiffs between Krystle and Alexis were more butch.
  4. To be fair, though, everyone looked gay as hell on that show.
  5. You've got to hand it to Al Corley, though, for being willing to "play gay" in the first place, at a time when most heterosexual actors would run from such parts out of fears that they would be mistaken for gay by audiences. Good interview w/ GT, and I definitely agree with his comments on the Moldavian Massacre, the alien abduction story w/ Fallon, and his role on RYAN'S HOPE. I'm just sad that he thinks he's at a point in his life where he can no longer "get it," if you know what I mean. If Soapsuds didn't know GT was gay, then GT is the best actor ever.
  6. I think it was Betty Wright who said, "Girls can't do what the guys can do, and still be called a lady." But what gets ME are the many women, such as Susan Sarandon, who went after Hill on this and other non-issues. The men hyped the [!@#$%^&*] out of it, and the women swallowed the hype. And these same women want to be taken seriously as feminists? Really?
  7. Rick Hawkins! HA! I totally forgot that shout-out to "Mama's Family"! (Hawkins was the show's producer; KL story editors Chuck Bulot & M.J. Cody served similar functions at MF.) I think it wasn't too long afterward when MF's writers returned the favor, so to speak, by having Thelma say there was more skulduggery going on at the Harper house than on KL.
  8. The GOP's efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare ARE aggravating, if only because there never seems to be an end to them, even as statistic after statistic says the majority of the American public do NOT want to see it repealed. But, the GOP practically seized control of the House, Senate and presidency on the promise that they WOULD repeal, so I guess they'll just keep 'em coming until they pass something (or until the next election cycle, whichever comes first).
  9. Thinking of the diehards from Trump Nation reminds me so much of what happened to the cult members at Jonestown and Waco, not to mention to those Heaven's Gate people, who committed suicide because they believed Jesus had hitched a ride on a comet on his way back to Earth. It's terrifying what COULD happen with those who would follow Trump off a proverbial and literal cliff, if only because others will go down with them.
  10. Frankly, yes. In fact, it's a big reason why I don't watch much television or movies these days, aside from reruns and old movies. Lord knows I'm no prude, but it seems as if the entertainment industry is so much in love now with "edgy" and "dark" and characters who, if I'm being candid, I'd never welcome into my home under any circumstances.
  11. Trump Regrets Putting Obamacare Repeal On Top of Agenda, Blames Ryan Rule #3 in "The Art of the Deal": When you fail, blame the other guy. If I were Paul Ryan, I'd be pissed right about now. Between this [!@#$%^&*] and the deal Trump cut with the Democrats...? Let's just say that a part of me (again, if I were Paul Ryan) would be very, VERY slow to reforming the tax codes, if only to make Trump look like an even bigger loser.
  12. Say, what's this I hear (via NPR's "Morning Edition") about Trump cutting some sort of deal with the Democrats in Congress?
  13. You know, I'm not going to get mad at McCain for this? AFAIK, he never said he wasn't for repealing and/or replacing Obamacare. He just wanted it done the right way, with open hearings and bipartisan efforts to amend the bill. The total opposite, I think, of whatever McConnell and his team tried to sneak through.
  14. If those people would rather listen to Rush Limbaugh over an actual meteorologist...well...I'm sorry to say in this case, but they deserve whatever comes their way.
  15. IMO, the DNC won't cut loose Bernie or his supporters, because they want to maintain the attitude of fairness and inclusivity in politics. However, I ask, should a political party be so welcoming toward a potential candidate who makes it clear from the start that he is not one of them, that he does not endorse the same ideologies that they do, and that his number-one objective in aligning himself with the party is to deconstruct it from within? Look, I'm sure there were MANY reasons why Debbie Wasserman Schultz had to go as DNC chair, but although her methods (meaning, of course, those damn emails) in pushing Hillary as her party's nominee over Bernie were questionable, at the end of the day, I can't exactly question why she did what she did that ultimately proved her undoing. IA. And if they were to remove the competition, guess what? The Chinese would still hand us our asses at the end. Because -- and forgive me if this offends anyone -- but Americans are, in fact, the laziest, most incurious bunch of assholes on the planet. If it means breaking even a LITTLE sweat, we out. If I were that soldier, I'd go AWOL and then defect to my wife's country. I'm not kidding.
  16. Let's hope so. From what *I* can tell, not every Republican is on board with deporting all those "Dreamers." I think any responsible legislation that Congress brings up in this matter might be one of the few things to garner bipartisan support. Nevertheless, I AM worried that the GOP might attempt to tie it to some larger bill that the Democrats will never support, thereby sealing the fates of over 800,000 people who might not be legal citizens but who have no concept of life outside the U.S. But, you know, I think the only reason why Trump rescinded DACA at all was because he is so desperate to have more "victories" as president. If he and Congress had been able to repeal and/or replace Obamacare, for example, or if he had been intelligent enough to figure out a way to pull us out of Afghanistan, or to "build that wall," then he probably would have let this, and maybe some other, campaign promises slide. Good on Hillary for calling Bernie what he was: an agitator, and a disruptor. His efforts at upturning the Democratic Party are a major reason why we are now where we are; because, once he managed to turn a significant amount of progressives within their voter base against Hillary, there really was no turning back. Frankly, if the Democrats were to allow Bernie to run on their ticket again, I think I just might have to declare myself an Independent.
  17. In retrospect, Niki Smith was a double-edged sword. On the one hand, her unpredictability allowed the writers to go more places with her than they could with Viki. But, OTOH, because Niki wasn't "real," I think the writers (especially, the ones who worked on the show after Peggy O'Shea) tended to see her more as a comic-book creation, checking such things as rationale, believability and plain good taste at the proverbial door, and, in the process, trivializing both Viki's alter-ego and the reason why Viki created her in the first place. I've always wondered whether it might have been a good idea to give Viki a long-lost twin sister (and ES a regular, second character to play), thereby circumventing the need to bring back Niki, or any of Viki's other alters, whenever it was clear that Viki was in a storyline rut.
  18. Doesn't the British royal family have some sort of museum or warehouse (or something) where they store all the swag that heads of state from other countries gift them with? I wonder if the WH has similar coffers. If not, then rest assured, Trump will start one. He'll want to show off all the "most luxurious stuff in the world" that he has amassed since becoming Grifter in Chief.
  19. We left the day our electoral college let us down and allowed you-know-who to become president.
  20. Well, Trump and his base can rationalize anything they want, however they want, lol. Unless I'm proven wrong, though, I have a feeling the state of Texas (and maybe Florida and Louisiana, if Hurricane Irma makes land) will end up needing help from outside the U.S. as it rebuilds, which will DEFINITELY put a chink in our country's collective, "America First" isolationist armor.
  21. Mexico might as well send aid, since I doubt our current presidential administration will. But, in a way, it seems appropriate for the very people Trump disparaged to come to our rescue. Because, after all, karma IS a bitch, is it not?
  22. Has this been posted already? If it has, then I apologize. But ICYMI: DOJ: No evidence of Trump Tower wiretapping Reuters reports this as well
  23. Yep. And I love it.
  24. At the start, Kenny and Ginger were supposed to be the requisite "young marrieds," but it seems as if Gary and Val's presence made Kenny and Ginger redundant. Which is why I never believed that David Jacobs created KL with Gary and Val in mind. I think he more-or-less grafted them onto his original vision because CBS was looking for something to spin off from "Dallas."
  25. Neither do I. Hillary would have known how to handle this. Obama would have known how to handle this (and did, thanks for the reminder, DD). Hell, even RICHARD. F**KING. NIXON. would have known how to handle this. And when even one of us can say, unequivocally, that RICHARD. F**KING. NIXON. would make a better leader at THIS point? With the threat of nuclear war so close to us that we can literally smell it? You KNOW this whole experiment in having a non-politician run this country was the worst idea ever. If we live through this, I never again want to hear anyone talk anymore about "shaking up" Washington, D.C. For God's sake, give us business as usual, PLEASE. Nor do I want to hear any more talk about how much worse it would be to have Miss Pence take over. (I know you weren't one of 'em, DD.) Seriously. No more. As Auntie Maxine Waters says, as soon as we're done with Trump, we'll get Pence. But now, more than ever, we have to get Trump's ass out of there, and we have to do it fast. This is not a game, people, or a drill. Screw the damn voter base. Trump is literally on the precipice of getting us all blown to kingdom come.
