  1. My God, the Laurelton "mystery" still sounds like the most boring storyline ever. That [!@#$%^&*] wouldn't have flown even on "Scooby-Doo," lol.
  2. There were two reasons why they didn't recast Lucy, and both reasons were on Charlene Tilton's chest. ;) But seriously. CT was (and is) a very beautiful woman with a great figure, who looked the part of Gary and Val's love-starved daughter more than anything else; and who certainly could draw in the young males who'd otherwise tune out after "Dukes of Hazzard." (Between her rack and Catherine Bach's bare legs, it was a fantastic time to be an adolescent male, lol.)
  3. IMO, if Douglas Marland made any real mistakes while at GL, it was killing off Joe Bradley. Now, Diane's murder might've been unavoidable, since it's my understanding that Sofia Landon wanted to leave; but Joe, as seedy as he was, could've transitioned into the kinds of storylines and romances that Fletcher Reade was a part of down the road.
  4. Possibly. I don't think Ross and Peggy would've become Bruce and Meta right away, lol. Even after their wedding, there would've been bumps in the road, and maybe even a separation or two. However, almost from the beginning, JvD had a presence that screamed "future patriarch," so redeeming him was necessary; and I think Peggy deserved some happiness and stability as well after everything she and her son had been through.
  5. If I had been writing the show, I might have tried pairing Peggy with Ross. Yes, Ross, as Roger's attorney, was merciless toward Holly throughout the rape trial; and yes, that would have been an instant obstacle for him and Peggy (and little Billy). However, falling in love with and marrying Peggy, as well as becoming Billy's newest stepfather, might've gone a long way toward redeeming Ross. As for Sara, I think I would've created a new love interest who was 1) a dashing European, 2) younger than Dr. McIntyre, thereby setting some tongues to wagging and making Sara feel more than a little uncomfortable; and 3) not out to kill her and/or steal her fortune (although, you certainly could create some intrigue at the top as to whether his intentions toward her are genuine).
  6. True. Simply put, the Lechowicks never wrote from character. They were more concerned with being unpredictable.
  7. I blame that on the casting. Lucy had potential, but Charlene Tilton was just too awful to write for.
  8. Thanks to Brittch, I'm acting like Maureen Bauer: "You have turned me into a Carly defender, and I will never forgive you for that!"
  9. Exactly. The thing is, I wouldn't necessarily say Deidre carried DAYS for decades. Yes, she has carried it since the first JER era. In her original run, however, when the writing so much better for her and she had an actual character to play, I don't think she carried the show, even though she and WN/Roman were a very popular duo. If anyone carried DAYS back then, it was KA and PR/Bo and Hope, followed by SN and MBE/Patch and Kayla.
  10. ICAM! I mean, one of the conditions she had for returning in '91 was that Wayne Northrop be allowed to return as well, even though Drake was still playing Roman at that point. What does THAT say about Dee and Drake's relationship back then, lol? Ironically, there's only one actor whom I've seen Deidre Hall say even slightly negative things about to the press, and that was Tom Hallick (ex-Maxwell Hathaway; ex-Brad Elliot, Y&R). Otherwise, if she isn't gushing about 'em, she just doesn't mention 'em at all, lol.
  11. Poor Drake. Even though he certainly got his share of the spotlight on DAYS, the show absolutely put him and John through the wringer, forcing him to make work a lot of material that, IMO, was crap.
  12. True, but acting (on a daytime drama) isn't like working at Hertz. If you or I are having issues with one or more of our colleagues, and we are in a position where we could limit our day-to-day interactions with them or avoid them entirely, we do so, if only because we know our paychecks are on the line. But if you're an actor, and you're getting paid to play opposite someone you dislike personally, then it's your duty to leave the hostilities off the set or stage and play the scene and the relationship with that other actor as written. Who knows? Maybe you're right, and maybe the show just should avoid placing DH and SR in scenes together from here on out. (ATWT did that for years after Colleen Zenk and Jacqueline Schulz reportedly had had some kind of falling out, even though their characters (Barbara Ryan and Dee Stewart, respectively) were supposed to be close friends). Again, though, Marlena and Maggie have shared decades of close friendship on-screen, so it's weird to go from all that to where we are today: long stretches with zero interaction (even though it would make sense for them to confide in each other routinely about their separate dramas) punctuated by scenes like the ones we saw the other day, where the tension between the two is palpable and doesn't make sense, given the nature of their relationship. This question goes to anyone who's a longtime Y&R fan: in the past, Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) talked about how Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) did not speak to her for years, even though Cooper herself had no idea why; and how their one-sided feud ended one day as mysteriously as it had begun. (IIRC, when Cooper broached the subject, Scott just kind of waved her off, like, "Oh, that's old news." Whatever, Melody, lol). Was the tension between the actors ever present on-screen? Remember, Kay took Nikki under her wing, so I imagine they had to share at least SOME screen time.
  13. IDK whether I would've wanted Elizabeth involved with Spaulding Enterprises, but I do agree that she would've taken a special interest in Lizzie. (After all, she was kind of her namesake, lol). I do see her taking Lizzie under her wing, bringing her along to photography sessions and whatnot; and Lizzie deciding she wanted to follow in Elizabeth's footsteps and become a photographer herself, or (depending upon who was playing Lizzie at that point) even getting into the modeling game after being "discovered" during one of Elizabeth's shoots. (Phillip and Beth weren't agreeing on much by that point, but they definitely would be worried over Lizzie pursuing a modeling career at such an early age).
  14. It's ironic how GL always struggled to write for MG/Holly whenever MZ/Roger wasn't on the show, even though, by many longtime GL fans' account, it was Peggy, and not Holly, who was the true love of Roger's life.
  15. Ken Corday got spooked when the ladies at his golf club collectively clutched their pearls. It's been said before, but it definitely bears repeating: God bless Eric Braeden, lol. Why did John dislike Maggie?
  16. Well, like the title insists: "Never say never," lol.
  17. That's because it's cold out and her rheumatism's actin' up. ;) But seriously. Even characters on "Little House on the Prairie" were gettin' it in more than these Amish people who have invaded Port Charles all of a sudden.
  18. I thought Dame Joan Collins would have made a wonderful recast for Elizabeth Spaulding. For one thing, she could've dipped in and out of story, depending on JC's availability. For another, they could have explained how, in the years since she departed Springfield, she had resumed her photography career, becoming a celebrity photographer like Annie Leibovitz or Herb Ritts. In turn, her success as a photographer would have restored the self-assurance that had evaporated during her marriage to Alan.
  19. You ain't kiddin', lol! KL never had the best looking sets or wardrobe - that honor, of course, goes to DYNASTY - but episodes from the late '80's and early '90's can be depressing to watch, as everything gets doused in pastels to make up for the fact that they're cutting costs.
  20. Look on the bright side: Nina might be promiscuous, but at least we don't have to worry about her getting pregnant after each encounter! ;)
  21. D.H. Lawrence, eat your heart out, lol! "Dark Willow" sounds like something you'd see after "The X-Files" on FOX, lol.
  22. IDK about you, but I have made it one of my goals in life to see that adapted into a B'way musical, lol. If DAYS is experiencing less creative interference from Peacock than they were from NBC, then it proves my point: it ain't always the network's fault. Sometimes, the people who actually write and produce the show just don't know good from bad.
  23. IKR? There isn't much we can agree on these days as a nation, but one thing I think we CAN agree on is that we all can't stand Crystal Chappell. You know how much I have adored Deidre and Marlena over the years - hell, she's the only soap star I've ever written to and asked for an autograph! - but I've heard how jealous she is of Susan Lucci and how she sees herself as being on the same level as her; and to me, that's just INSANE.
