BTG: March 2025 Discussion Thread
-- Very good show today. Movement in story all over the place. -- Brandon Claybon is improving as Martin. His scenes with Mike Manning today were his most natural. MM continues to do well. -- I still think this run for the presidency is ridiculous, and it take me out of the story. Make it AG, or governor, or senator. But president? Sorry, that's a joke. -- The legal meeting Naomi held should not have been at Orphey Gene's, but since it was, shouldn't the women have at least ordered coffee instead of taking a table for an hour and then walking out? -- Alex Alegria continues to be sooooo bad as Tomas. I have yet to see a natural line reading. -- The part of Mike Davis the harassment pig was miscast. They needed some middle age fratboy who we can see Bill hiring. No one would put up with this clown. -- Good scenes today with Chelsea, Dani, Anita and Vernon, and other regular cast characters.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
I cared about Maurice Johnson losing his role only because I thought he was doing a decent job, and I hate seeing competent people let go. So I posted about it for a few days, and I was ready to let it go after the weekend. Much of this continued talk is due to Maurice himself. His continued and varied posts have certainly blown this up. I'm not blaming him, but that's just a fact. I think this has garnered so much attention is not just that fans love Maurice Johnson. It's also seeing MULTIPLE other actors who are WORSE than mediocre. It's saying "How can you recast Ted when ______________ is so bad in his/her role?" Casting had more than one bad day. We've talked a lot about Derek, but how in the hell did the actor playing Tomas get hired? He is absolutely terrible. Yes, he's good-looking, but there are HUNDREDS of hot and sexy Latinos looking for roles. GH just cast the role of Marco with a stunning looking guy who is also a very good actor. How did BTG misfire so badly? That's not the only role that's a miss, either. A new soap was bound to have problems. The ages on this show are a complete mess and shoehorning in Cady McClain is a problem. The fades at the end of scenes are awkward as hell, and the way yesterday's show ended was a complete "HUH?" So yeah, they have things to work out and work on. I just see firing Maurice Johnson as an unforced error.

I co-sign this. I have complaints about the show, but some of these suggestions from soap fans are...a choice. I made fun of Joss and The WSB thing when it started, but I agree GH has done a good job of making it plausible. The actors are selling it as well as anyone could, and the guy playing Vaughn is excellent.- BTG: First-ever role recast!
Yes, American Dreams was a really good drama. I loved it. The actor you're thinking of is Tom Verica, who's now a bigtime producer for Shonda Rhimes. He was in the How To Get Away With Murder cast for a time and then went on to exec produce Scandal and Bridgerton. Your opinion, of course, but that seems like an overreaction. Yep to all of this. I like Maurice Johnson and I've posted multiple times about it, but people are running with this like it's some kind of scandal. It's not.- GH: March 2025 Discussion Thread

I don't know Maurice Johnson, but I have to defend him here. I've now read multiple times that it's possible he couldn't handle the pacing and rigors of daytime, that he wasn't up to the production grind, that he couldn't handle all that dialogue. I'm sorry, but it's not like Ted had monologues all over the place. I don't recall any scenes with demanding dialogue, frankly, and I think it's wrong to tag an actor with that. Is it possible? Yes, but it's also possible he came to work drunk every day and everyone had to sit around until he sobered up. It's demeaning -- in my opinion -- to attribute the recasting to MJ being unable to handle the work. I think this is clearly a case of "taking the character in a different direction." I trust this was given careful consideration and I hope this isn't followed by more recasts any time soon. I don't like the signals that multiple recasts would send to the audience.- GH: March 2025 Discussion Thread

Karla Mosley in only about 7 years older than Sean Freeman, but the difference between them reads generational to me. It's not a Mrs. Robinson situation, and I don't have a problem with May/December relationships on soaps, but this one feels off to me. Just as I don't understand why we're supposed to see some possibility between Andre and Ashley, I don't understand the possibility of Andre and Dani, either. You know how Andre had a heart-to-heart with Nicole about his romantic life? That's the same relationship I think he should have with Dani.- BTG: March 2025 Discussion Thread

😂😂😂 Have to agree. All that ham and chewing of scenery is something to see. I know that conventional wisdom is that she'll win an Emmy for her "Doug's funeral" scenes, but she was so over-the-top that I couldn't stop staring at my screen with my mouth wide open. I felt like I was watching Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.- BTG: First-ever role recast!

Whoa. I don't get this at all. Robinson is 3 years older than Maurice Johnson, but I think he reads younger, and the ages on BTG are already screwed up. More importantly, Johnson was doing just fine in the role. I can name a bunch of other actors I'd recast before him. I think it's a mistake to do any recasting before the first 13-week cycle is up, and I don't like the message this sends.- Y&R: March 2025 Discussion Thread

I'm sure you realized I mean Google machine 😂 Is there any good reason for Joy keeping her pregnancy a secret from Alex? Or did Ron just wake up one day and realize he already had another "I got her pregnant" storyline running? The establishing shots on DAYS are the worst of any soap by far, to the point that I enjoy them because they're so laughable. A high schooler could do a better job with these shots. I honestly think Janet Spellman-Drucker is a luddite who doesn't even know how to use that Google machine I mentioned.- GH: March 2025 Discussion Thread
I'm on record as despising the Natalia character. I hate what she did and what she said, and I don't want her on my screen. Eva LaRue has been a dud on GH. Would she have worked if she hadn't been painted as a homophobic POS? Maybe. I'm not sure. But I will defend ELR, I can see her being hired and knowing the outline -- that she'd play a mother who struggled with her daughter's sexuality. It's entirely possible she had no idea how unlikable and even hatable they'd write Natalia. With those GH taping schedules, do you really think she had the agency to hold up production with complaints about her lines? No way. She did her job and barreled through that dialogue, and now here we are.
