BTG: April 2025 Discussion Thread
-- Did anyone else Daphnee Duplaix in a guest role on last night's St. Denis Medical? She played a wealthy hospital benefactor in the final scene. -- Not buying Chelsea going in so hard on her mother working with her. Didn't we get weeks of Chelsea wanting to be on her own? -- Derek and Ashley did all they could with those magazine relationship quiz scenes. The actor playing Derek had his best day today. -- I do not believe the show has already shown that they know Derek and Ashley aren't working. -- Vanessa and Doug have a lot of sexual chemistry -- certainly more than Vanessa and Joey.

-- Michelle Stafford is back to her old tricks -- that acting tic where she repeats a line 3 times. -- Just finished the episode. Those Daniel/Tessa guitar scenes are deadly, and they're fast-forward material. OF COURSE they have to practice and play at Crimson Lights, since no one has a home.

I've had it with the Amy Has Cancer story. They should have moved on from that by now, using it to propel future story. None of it is any longer interesting. That's already old, too. No way would a guy starting a new company talk this much about someone who doesn't seem to be interested -- and who isn't qualified, either. And Daniel? He's asking Tessa for guitar lessons. Are you f_ucking kidding me with this? Ugh. That's what I worried about. I didn't think anything was wrong with the old set. I hope a massive change blows up in their faces. The sets problem on Y&R isn't individual sets. It's that we see so few on a daily basis and characters are ridiculously forced to gather/meet in two restaurants and a damn coffee shop.

-- A hospital fundraiser is fine, but holding it to save the hospital??? Really??? Another ridiculous Carlivati move, just like watching obnoxious Leo and Javi bid with money they either don't have or lied about not having. -- Gabi had to jump from a $1000 bid to $15,000 to make JJ jealous? Girl is clueless.

I agree with you and others about CM. He plays a louse very well, and I'm enjoying him lately. OTOH, what's with Carly going 0-100 ALL THE DAMN TIME? I don't mind Carly being Carly, but Laura Wright way too often starts yelling and screaming when she talks about someone she has a problem with. It's annoying and hard to watch.

Yeah, I'm watching it now and Clifton cannot elevate trash material. This is bad. After Steffy cries and sobs for an interminable amount of time, Liam says "I'm not dying! They can do anything nowadays!" while smiling. Jesus, it's just all so awful. And don't get me started on that knit cap on his head. They'll probably do something like have Steffy wake him to Europe for some "miracle treatment" when JMW goes on her 74th maternity leave.

I felt that as soon as I posted about Scott Clifton getting crap to play. Of course, you're right -- I just think in a sea of crap, no one's getting more or worse than SC.

BTG: April 2025 Discussion Thread
Excellent post that says a lot that I'm thinking. I enjoy the freedom to be honest about my opinions here at SON. I don't expect everyone (or anyone) to agree with me, but it's a comfortable place to post both positives and negatives about the soaps. The praise for BTG was over-the-top in the first month, but I get it. We were starved for something new, something like this. I didn't agree with it all, but I let it go. I'm glad now, though, that we've settled into a place where it's OK to criticize what's wrong and needs work. Is the general audience doing all this deep introspection and analysis and nitpicking the way we do? Of course not. But let's not kid ourselves -- BTG needs to build a steady and loyal audience, and that is not easy in 2025. The show doesn't have "forever" to get and hold on to viewers. With all the TV out there, people move on from shows much more quickly than in the past. BTG does not have that same loyalty that Y&R and BOLD have -- shows that keep decent ratings even when the show is bad for weeks and even months. BTG cannot afford to do that. On another note, I will never understand why it's a good thing to tape months ahead. I've heard all the reasons, especially that it's "cost-effective and cost-efficient." Sorry, I don't get it. Why does GATES need to be 3 months ahead? If they still taped individual shows, how did that save money? Yes, I understand more than 5 episodes are taped per week. DAYS is getting closer to being a year ahead in taping. How does that "save money"? Would they save even more money by taping 15 months ahead? Two years ahead? I don't get the business model no matter how many times it's explained to me.

-- Beating A Dead Horse, Part XIV: Samantha looks 30, and Najah Jackson isn't even trying to play her younger. I don't know what the hell casting was doing. -- Wasn't Chelsea supposed to move away from modeling? Then why is she spending so much time working on Samantha's modeling career? It makes no sense. Besides, Samantha doesn't even have that model look. -- A partnership at the law firm is mentioned for Tomas. In what world is Tomas partner material? -- Silk Press was good again today. I enjoy how she appears and disappears at the most convenient moments LOL -- I hope Dani sticks to her guns and says no to working for Chelsea. I don't know in what world Chelsea would want her around anyway. -- When anyone here says Dani should be written out, I have a hard time with everything else that person says. -- If Anita returns to the spotlight, I hope they keep it realistic and not pretend she's going to fill stadiums and huge arenas. Keep it small and simple, like with classy lounges and clubs. Don't pretend she's going to be some huge hit on Spotify. I mention this because I think that "going too big" mistake was made in talking about Martin's run for president.

Have to agree with this. Look, we're watching a show on which Sonny kills people and it's just not mentioned again. If we're speeding by redemption with Sonny to the point of ignoring it, we can keep an ass_hole like Drew around. I've seen that all over the place, too. Jesus, what a terrible idea...which means GH must be considering it.

-- Billy is AGAIN strategizing about his Abbott Communications from a sofa at the GCAC. What a hard worker! Does he ever do any work? Do any of the companies on this show ever do anything? -- Daniel is STILL sitting in Crimson Lights telling Tessa his sad, sad story. In what frickin universe is any of this interesting? -- Tessa, why aren't you home with your wife and your daughter? Do you always go to CL for coffee after leaving your managerial position at Society? And why is failure Josh Griffith chem-testing you with Depressing Daniel? -- Is it supposed to be a BFD that Kyle and Claire might move in together? Really? The stakes are so low on this show. And no, having Amish Girl tell Kyle she's fallen in love with him doesn't save the scene. -- WHY AM I WATCHING THIS TRASH???

-- BOLD thinks "fashion show" means they should wheel a couple racks of dresses into Eric's geriatric-smelling office so he can "tweak" the designs right before the runway show. -- Meanwhile, They've given up on Hiding JMW's pregnancy. She's wearing the biggest sweatshirt I've ever seen. -- In the past few shows, we've been told 157,482 times that Liam is a good dad. -- Aaaaaaand more old footage from a remote to remind us what this show used to be. Seems to be a split between those who think Liam is dying and those who don't. I personally don't think Brad Bell will do it.

BTG: April 2025 Discussion Thread
I agree with all of this. I'm committed to BTG, too, and I watch every day -- giving it more of my attention than the other soaps get. Still, problems exist that need to be fixed, and that includes storyline that's new and fresh and that moves. I love all the parties and get-togethers, but I need plot progression at the same time. I really thought BTG would be much edgier than it is. It hasn't moved soaps into the 21st century. Characters are energized and talking, but not much is HAPPENING. I worried about and cringed at all the "Wait for sweeps!" comments made in the first 2 months, but said nothing. Sorry, that's old-school thinking. I do not want to wait for sweeps for something big to happen. Give it to me on any unexpected weekday. If you do, you'll have your audience there for sweeps. I know I shouldn't speak for anyone but myself, but I acknowledge that too many of us expected too much from the jump. Starting a new soap is an enormous endeavor and challenge, and in many ways BTG has done a great job. Still, we were calling EVERYTHING incredible and magnificent and game-changing and brilliant from episode one. We were handing out Emmys all over the place. Now we're getting back to earth. I'm comfortable with the criticism of the show which has obviously increased dramatically. It's honest and genuine, and I hope people from the show see it and use it. I criticize the other soaps all the damn time, many times to the point of abuse LOL. I won't be treating BTG any differently.

I agree with all of this. I've been complaining about the Joey character since he first appeared, and I'm just not seeing this chemistry with Vanessa. I don't know what she sees in him. The guy is a liar and has nothing on Diego in the looks department. -- BTG needs to decide who Vanessa is. Is she a sad wife in a lonely marriage who loves her husband? Street trash who screws hotel employees and treats them like garbage? A devoted and loving friend to devoted and loving Nicole? I'm not buying this character. -- And I'm not buying Nicole's passivity at Vanessa being such a cheat. -- I literally CRINGED when I heard the opening riff to the BBD New Jack Swing song. I thought we were in for a disaster. However, I ended up liking that performance. Unexpected as hell, but it worked, and Tunie was good. -- Who is dressing Martin? My God, those slacks were amazing. Package for days. -- I liked seeing Smitty all loosened up at the club in background scenes. -- I'll put up wit Tomas' wooden acting if he's a cheater. If he's faithful to Kat, I don't want to see it. -- I don't understand why the writers took the party planners from gay and campy and so fun all the way to obnoxious and mean -- all in the span of two scenes. -- The edits and cuts are still terrible. Sorry, those are not primetime cuts. No one on primetime is doing that.

Bridget's reaction to Liam's "inoperable brain tumor" had me in stitches. Not only was it fun watching Ashley Jones (try to) emote with a face that doesn't move, but seeing a doctor react to a tumor as she did was hysterical! "IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!!" Bridget cried as she moaned and wailed about Liam's impending death. Of course, Finn also pulled the "It's not fair!" card. Another clueless doctor. I just can't with this show.

Y&R: April 2025 Discussion Thread
I hated today's show with a passion. -- I was bored out of my mind, but at the same time, I was ready to scream at the TV. Billy's discussion of Abbott Communications with Phyllis was horrible television. It was all vague and generic and ridiculous. NO ONE knows what they do there. And then they talk about Daniel being part of the triad at Abbot. Why in the f_uck would Daniel be a part of the triad? All we know about him is that he created a video damn game. We have no idea what any of these people do. Billy talks to Sally about becoming a big deal at Abbott Communications. Say what? What the hell does she know about a media conglomerate -- or whatever they are? And then the pathetic discussion with Daniel that he doesn't know what he wants. Jesus, that was boring and generic. Also, no, the show wasn't saved when Daniel sat dow n to talk with rando Tessa at the end. If there's a Josh Griffith "plan" there, I don't want to see it. -- Also bad: The ENDLESS conversation among Claire, Victoria, and Nikki about Claire moving in with Kyle. Why did we need multiple lengthy scenes about this? And why -- after all this talk about moving in together -- did Victoria and Nikki have shocked looks on their faces when Claire said she's in love with Kyle??? Shouldn't it be obvious and accepted that any damn couple moving in together must be in love???? #FireJoshGriffith

The restaurant meetings are the worst, and this week was especially bad. Look at Nate and Audra. They had a long dinner at home, but then went to the GCAC lounge for drinks and dancing....FOLLOWED BY A TRIP TO CRIMSON LIGHTS, just so they could run into someone else who'd been in some restaurant earlier. It's absolute insanity, and I hate it. No other soap is this bad with sets, not even DAYS.
