  1. I'm not having a problem with loading being slow. But I can hardly post at all, because the small video playing in the low right corner of the screen constantly maximizes and takes over the entire screen. Sometimes it does this between every keystroke. Although I do still occasionally post, it takes a lot of patience to hit "escape" between every keystroke, to minimize the video that had taken over my screen multiple times as I try to type. FYI, I am using a MacBook and Safari browser. And it only happens when I'm trying to post. It never happens when I'm just reading other posts. Please help.
  2. Well, the Dobson's got rid of the (original) Hughes Kitchen. But James did attend Chris and Nancy's final 4th of July picnic (a guest of Barbara, I believe), in the very early '80s. I will admit, it was a little bizarre having a Danish prince show up for a 4th of July picnic in the backyard of a middle-class family in Oakdale, Illinois. But that's the direction the Dobsons were going.
  3. Sorry, but who is Banneker? And why would you put Vernon with the kids? And of course we have Martin and Smitty's two kids approximately college age.
  4. Yes, this young actor is an amazing find. I hope he's on contract. He's a very good actor. The show needs a college-ages set of characters (four or five of them), leading into a couple of young love stories. Similar to AMC at the beginning with Tara, Phil, Chuck, Erica, and Jeff.
  5. Well, if Eva/Kat/Tomas = Modern day Steve/Alice/Rachel, then 9-months from today -- we get Jamie. And I wouldn't mind that. An old-fashioned slow-burning love triangle hasn't been done on an American soap for decades. Back in the 1970s, that type of triangle totally drove the ratings on several soaps. I'm here for it.
  6. I love that too, because long-term viewers understood exactly why her name was repeated that way. Susan had a history in Oakdale that went back far earlier than even Kim's history. Love Marland's handling of this storyline. In terms of longevity on the show at that time among female characters, I assume it was something like this (in order of longevity): Nancy, Ellen, Lisa, Susan, and Kim. Can anyone confirm if I am correct or incorrect?
  7. Well, Michael Roark is in his early 40s, so at least Jeremy is not a perpetual teenager. Actually, I hope Jeremy arrives with a wife and four kids. (Preferably three boys and a girl.) Then we will have an instant branch of the family that actually bears the Horton name. And I hope they all live with Julie in the Horton house. I always hoped Russ Matthews would return with a new family in-tow, to carry on the Matthews name on AW. The closest we got was his return in 1989 with Olivia, and then learning about Josie. Russ needed sons too.
  8. Has it been announced who is playing Jeremy?
  9. I always loved Grandpa Hughes. Santos Ortega was such a genuine actor. ATWT really lost something, when they lost Grandpa Hughes.
  10. Oleeve! Oleeve! LOL. I never understood why Michael Ryan (John Randolph) pronounced Olive's name that way. Nor why the directors allowed him to continue it. It was ridiculous, and made the otherwise dignified John seem like an idiot. Oleeve! Oleeve! What the Hell??
  11. I loved Olive! And it was such a bad decision to write her into a corner, necessitating her being written-off the show. In 1979 AW desperately needed a long-term female trouble-maker like Olive, and they should have kept Olive on the canvas. Both Rachel and Liz Matthews had been more-or-less reformed and de-fanged. And Iris was on her way out -- with McKenzie's lengthy absences and then her eventual move to TEXAS. It would have been magic to keep Olive as a relevant (but believable) villainess, causing trouble for both the Matthews and Cory families for years into the future. But I guess Lemay and Rauch weren't forward-thinking enough to realize Olive's value to the future of AW. Or maybe they didn't care... Such a shame. Jennifer Leak was wonderful in that role.
  12. Thank you for posting this. It is so interesting to get this much detail about the early plot lines of the show.
  13. 100 percent agreement. Additionally, in 1986 Taylor Miller must have been pushing 35 years old. Amazing actress, but too old for Sally to suddenly become a famous model, in my opinion. Uninspired writing for Sally after Miller was cast (borderline dreadful). Still, if she wasn't working out, just write off Sally and Kevin. Ludicrous to kill-off Sally. Especially so soon after her cousin Julia Shearer had died. Somebody in charge was clearly ready to say adios to the Matthews family.
  14. It would have been wonderful to watch Taylor Miller and Jacquie Courtney in scenes together. Those two actors would have had mother/daughter chemistry for sure. And an on-screen relationship with Alice might have helped with Miller's acceptance into the role. I've never believed Taylor Miller was miscast as Sally. But the recast came at a time when the writing for Sally was so drab. Sally and Catlin had nearly become a super-couple, but then TPTB decided to reform Brittany. And that decision threw-off the writing for Sally. Plus putting Sally into the orbit of modeling, when she had never headed that direction in any way, was a strange decision -- especially for an actress the age of Miller at the time.
  15. Wasn't Ralph Mitchell one of Joyce Coleman's ex's? Or maybe she just had an affair with him. And he had a son (Teddy?) with someone -- maybe Joyce or possibly the woman Don Hughes ended up with. And if I'm not mistaken, Teddy returned years later as a young adult, using a different name (Ryder Hughes, maybe??). And I think he lived for a while with Bob and Kim. Can anyone explain more about Ralph Mitchell's history on the show, before Marland brought him back?? And if any of my details are incorrect, please correct me.
  16. No, I don't remember seeing Patty McCormack subbing for Kathy Hays. I was in junior high school at the time, and I was probably lucky to even see the original Kim/tornado scene. That must have occurred on a day-off from school -- otherwise, I have no idea why I was at home to see it.
  17. It is WAY beyond time for Y&R to be revamped and updated, and here's how I'd so it: Jettison several dead-wood characters; bring on a new working-class family, and some on-screen servants for both the Newman and Abbot households; then bring on a group of college-aged characters (four or five), which includes both legacy young people and new characters. Next, divide the show's attention into thirds. One-third for business storylines; one-third for class-conflict plots; and one-third for young romance plots. I'd keep mostly the same sets for a while, until plots progress and budget allows for some changes. Characters and writing are more important than sets.
  18. i can't imagine a wealthy, well-known, famous, conceited plastic surgeon getting involved with a woman two weeks out of homelessness. I hope they don't go there.
  19. It's an efficiency/studio apartment. That's the way they always are -- minus the platform, which is weird.
  20. I remember Kim standing on a front porch near the front door, and behind her was film of a real tornado. They used rather primitive green-screen (sometimes called chromakey) effects to put the tornado and Kim in the same shot. It didn't look very realistic, but it was probably the best they could do with that technology. I don't remember any special background music, but they may have used something new and weird for that scene.
  21. I wish the Anita Williams impersonator had been a real drag queen. That would have been far more believable, and more humorous. Having the impersonator be played by Tamara Tunie just caused fans to wonder what the Hell was happening. I'm sure some fans understood it was an impersonator, but others likely thought Anita has a doppelgänger -- which is a tired old trope. And I hope it doesn't go in that direction. Anita and her impersonator are not by any means to the level of Kathrine and Marge.
  22. They just need to give Ashley some back-story, so the audience understands her background and what makes her tick. That will also give Jen Jacobs some subtext to play. Currently she just recites her lines like a junior high drama student. She shows no subtext at all. I can say the same for Derek.
  23. The small video ad at the lower right of the screen expands and consumes the entire screen. After I minimize the add, my screen is entirely frozen. I have to close Safari on my laptop, and reopen safari. But when I return to SON forum, the same problem occurs repeatedly. Makes it nearly impossible to post on SON forum. Frankly, I'll surprised if it doesn't happen before I am able to post this message. What's happening??
  24. Who is Cane's twin's son? I don't recall.
  25. This is all just so weird. Cricket isn't even a contract character, and hasn't been for 20-ish years. Same for Danny. Why is their wedding even being written into the scripts? They are the type of couple who should sail off to an island for their off-screen wedding. And return later -- or perhaps not return. I LOVE soap opera nostalgia, and mining the past for storylines. But Cricket and Danny's wedding will be nothing more than "filler" because Y&R currently has such weakly-written plots. Why not write some romance for a few of the contract characters??
