Why is Cameron doing everything himself this time around, unlike the original story line when he paid Gabe to do his dirty work. Is Gabe still in prison?

Because they are lazy unimaginative writer(s). Y&R's villains used to have underlings as their calling card. Now we have Cameron back for a month long story that will amount to nothing. I don't know why they bother.

Makes sense.  I recorded Days and GH, so the others were my afterthoughts.  Anyway, trying to get Lois was how Jax/Brenda hooked up.  Brenda offered information and help with Lois (which she made no effort to actually provide lol) and Jax offered to help make Sonny jealous by pretending to date Brenda and that's how it all started.

I have to read up/watch clips from his introduction. All these years I've been thinking that Jax's existence was some real paint-by-the-numbers laziness. I've been unfair.

Casey was introduced as the new doctor in town (from the 1978 recaps it seems as though she was brought on to be a Chris Brooks replacement) and her troublemaking younger sister Nikki followed not long after. Casey left in 1981 while Nikki remained. Casey made on-and-off appearances from 1984-1989 but she got replaced as the go-to doctor by Scott and later Olivia.

Oh I know all about them, I was thinking of other sibling pairs similar to them where the new one ends up overshadowing the original.

Thought of one not disimilary: Carly on ATWT went from Rosanna's duplicitous sister out for a dime to the leading lady of the show and Rosanna, while notable, became completely eclipsed by her.

David and Anna were freaking HOT! It would make sense to have David on the show. I almost even wish somehow David had saved Leora but we won't go there LMAO

PLEASE don't give them any ideas.

The idea of David...somehow keeping a newborn in cryofreeze for 20 years is just too much for me.

They better not say he reunited with Erica.

    I'm sorry but it's gonna happen. :(

And once again, the idiots won't hire Vincent Irizarry.

David Hayward is such a no-brainer for GH. Past with Anna, DOCTOR, shady af. Perhaps it's an ownership thing, perhaps they don't care.

David would make Valentin look even more pathetic as the local ne'er-do-well.

  5. 1. Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) - 70
    2. Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves) - 68

Crazy that Nina's purse had more appearances than her.

I have a question and was unsure of where to ask but when does a season start for a soap? I noticed that GH is in season 60 and on episode 183. Does the soap season start in the fall like primetime?

    Bobbie and Luke?

Good one! And I should have expanded upon my question, siblings where the established one faded into more of a bit of trivia themselves like Casey and Nikki.

Jax was created for Lois and Rena got pregnant and didn't re-sign so I guess the show just decided to throw him at Brenda.  It really all made sense for Brenda/Jax to be paired at the time, but if you remember Jax was initially in love with Lois and trying to steal her from Ned.  It's actually creepy considering she was married and pregnant lol.  Obviously, I think the stark contrast to Sonny stuff was created later because I do believe Jax was supposed to be more of a villian or a grey character with him working with Tracy to take over ELQ.

Ah see I've never seen Jax's introduction. Middle school really did a number on my soap watching (and AMC and OLTL were my mother's soaps, GH was more of an afterthought). I'm so surprised.

I always think of Julia/Brenda on GH in the same vein as Casey/Nikki on Y & R.  Career driven/over responsible individuals with issues/trauma from their parent.. that shielded their younger wild child younger sibling from the parent... and both of them trying to help their younger sibling from being self-destructive... and both of those said younger siblings end up becoming iconic characters on both of their soaps while their older sibling ended up leaving after a few years.

Another bit of trivia I'd like to know: how many siblings of established characters went on to become far more popular than their sibling?

I could also see why they wrote her out due to the build up of the Karen/Jagger romance and the fact KMc was old enough to carry her own teen story.   Karen wasn't necessary anymore.

She is another character you could easily pair up with AJ/Jason until Jason has his accident and then pair her up with Ingo once he was cast.  Since Ingo was hired for Lois/Rena I'll go with the assumption he would have been cast regardless of what Brenda was doing.

You're so right about Karen, she was nice girl filler until KMc was old enough for more mature stories. And I've said it before but giving Robin, beloved young grown-up-on-the-show, HIV was so fücking ballsy. Would never happen today, they're afraid to have Joss cheat on her boyfriend and get in trouble for it!

And I had no idea Jax was created FOR Brenda. All this time I thought his characterization is what is in order to be a stark contrast to Sonny (which is what he's become obviously but I thought it was always his whole THING).

  8. Serious question, how do you latch onto any couples on this show? It seems like if you're between the ages of 25-50 you can and will date/sleep with/marry any possible candidate?

And am I to understand that Nicole doesn't know who her baby's father is because she and one of the potentials ate baked goods laced with drugs? Are we still telling these stories in 2023?

I think Vanessa was obviously one of the most stunning women I have ever seen from first sight, but I do find her initial scenes a little stilted.  You can tell she's a bit nervous and very green, but she still had instant charisma. I think once she relaxes into the role after about a month or so she's clearly so much better.  Once Vanessa truly finds Brenda's groove about a year in she's clearly a star even in a teen story.

Maybe I'm comparing her to some of the younger actors we have now who takes years to get halfway decent (ahem Eden McCoy). Of course the benefited from a lot more rehearsal time back then but even still there was a ton more dialogue and blocking to remember back in the day.

I can't speak to Vanessa's debut, but it wasn't all that unlikely the instant you saw either Budig or Josh Duhamel onscreen IMO. They were introduced as spoilers for the latest iteration of Agnes' classic innocent young lovers couple - Scott and Becca - but neither poor Abigail Spencer nor a truly dreadful, pre-hambone Forbes March caught on with the audience at all even before Leo or Greenlee appeared. Once Josh and Budig showed up they were both electric. So you knew it pretty quick.

I can't say I agree. Budig was coming off of a failure in casting on GL and I watched her intro scenes on AMC recently and she was a pretty generic soap bîtch. It wasn't until she was paired with Duhamel that she took off. He however made a pretty quick splash as Leo.

@VeeAs far as Vanessa's debut, she was initially pretty rough, but I thought she quickly became the breakout of the teen scene.  People seemed to love CS's Karen, though.

I watched her first scenes recently and I actually think she was immediately great. I didn't hurt that she's probably one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the planet but she did a lot of heavy lifting in those scenes with Julia. Maybe hindsight is coloring my opinion but I found her to be captivating and natural.

Karen was a dour bore to me. They seemed to put a lot of effort into a character connected to no one. The Scotty connection wasn't revealed until right before she left, right? Why was so much focus placed on this malcontent?

Man, I LOVED this opening. It looked so high quality. It was obviously made with a lot loving care by someone who respected the show's history, all the classic shots and mostly appropriate groupings (Joe to Liv, Simone and Mia was just "Here ya go!"). We'll ignore Ryan, Kendall and Greenlee's prominent placement. But Bianca into Erica's final shot? Chef's kiss.

Unfortunately like @Liberty City said it was clearly a pain to update.

Not sure if this was posted but it's fascinating.

It might have been interesting as a part of the build up Sharon hears that Grace has died in an acciden (actually caused by Cameron) Cue Nick and Sharon talking about Grace to remind old viewers , educate new viewers with a few flashbacks thrown in.

Then Sharon gets a visit from a friend/partner whatever of Grace who says she mentioned Sharon's name before dying. Sharon puzzles about what it could mean...

The last thing Y&R needs to do is kill characters off-screen. They should've just brought back Grace. There is so much they could do there, she has such a deep history with Nick and Sharon.

I'd have brought her back a few months ago to setup Cameron's return. Maybe he contacts her, holds something over her head that she did years ago. Hell, maybe she had his child and hid it from him. There's a lot you could do with her and Cameron that would make this story sing but Griffith is just cashing his check.

  13. I think Taggert would have be consistently on the show to get written off lol.

I think Real did some of his best work yesterday with the elevator scene reacting to finding out he's not Trina's dad. I'm surprised the show gave his character the time for an extended emotional reaction, didn't we need another scene of someone telling Willow how brave she is?

I don't see this meaning much because Trina likes Curtis and his family and loves her dad? What's the point? Whatever.

Marshall makin' gumbo in the kitchen and Stella wringing her hands with "What if Curtis don't love me no more" is some Stepin Fetchit shît and it's starting to get to me. There has GOT to be a middle ground for black folks on daytime in 2023 that isn't the whitewashed tediousness of the Winters on Y&R and whatever the hell they have Marshall and Stella doing.

And the actor who plays Marshall is really not up to task of making any of his material more than what's on the page. Or maybe I just hate his voice.

  14. Victor's will reading doesn't have gravitas they're going for.

He was hardly a mainstay, no one on the canvas cared about him an iota, also no one was planning his death and while yes technically he tried kill 80% of the population but that didn't personally hurt anyone on the show. They really should have worked to give him a proper family, maybe some long suffering wife. He was just such a cartoon with his empty threats and Charles Shaughnessy just looked like an older valet on Downton Abbey.

Also where the hell is his son Valentin in all of this? I have to assume I missed a line explaining his absence. The whole thing felt terrible hollow.

Speaking of that vampire bat, it seems they had no story geared up for Anna and Valentin once they got back to PC. Which works for us because it means less scenes of them together being revolting.
