Y&R and B&B had great subtle humor which works for the type of shows they are, but to me Passions is always gonna be more of a soap opera “Dramedy” more then any other show, besides Days which is up their with the “Dramedy” aspect imo.

It's a shame 80% of Passions jokes were about assault or incest. Or literal hell. And this show was marketed to the youths.

  2. Soaps, to me, have always done better with funny lines as opposed to funny characters. I never find comedic characters or set pieces very funny.

I'd take several root canals over watching Susan on Days do literally anything. Roxy on OLTL was a colorful break from life and death stakes of everything else but every time she got her own story I was most annoyed than amused.

I like characters who clever and humorous like Lucinda or Erica or Kay or Michael Baldwin. The humor for me usually comes from the sharp-tongued characters, not the "funny" ones.

What a perfect description. I haven't watched since Victor died, and Trina and Spencer reunited.

You haven’t missed anything importance. Willow is still dying for god’s  sake.

And now they are destroying Trina and Spencer before they even got started. All in an effort to keep Esme around? Who is a far less interesting character now that she has amnesia. She’s not a good person or bad person, she’s just there.

And let me not get started on demonizing Nina for turning in criminals. And all of the fun they have sucked out of Ned’s amnesia plot because every scene on this show has to be seeping with gravitas. Every single scene is treated is if you don’t watch the next one you will miss the biggest revelation in the history daytime. It’s an extremely annoying editing trick.

Ava and Austin slept together, which was a foregone conclusion as soon as they started sharing scenes together and they are NOT interesting! Austin is a non-character! Roger Howarth, god bless him, is trying to make something out of literally nothing. And you have poor Maura West giving 1000% to spinning wheels.

Gregory is probably one of the most insufferable characters I’ve ever seen. He claims to be a good person but is on the verge of cursing out Alexis or Tracy at all times. I really hate watching scenes with him and these women who I have loved watching for nearly 30 years get “put in their place” by this founding father. Get off the show and go to hell and take your boring sons with you.

Speaking of one of his dull as dishwater children, how many more months do we have to suffer through Finn and Elizabeth having anti-chemistry? I hate to read too much into an actor’s performance but Rebecca Herbst looks like she’s in physical pain when she has to share scenes even hinting at a romance with this man. And Michael Easton‘s puppy dog thing is wholly unattractive, it just makes him look pathetic. This woman almost actively avoids you yet there you always are pleading with your eyes “do I still have a chance Lizzie?”.

I really did not expect to go on that rant but the show is an absolute mess right now.

Actually if my husband kissed someone else I would file for divorce. I am truly honest. It will hurt like an affair.

Oh absolutely in real life but the weight of betrayals on this show is so skewed!

Brooke kissing...whoever she kissed at the beginning of this year and maybe had a drink and it was treated like the end of the world.  Liam lead Hope and Steffy on for years yet screeches in her face about a kiss??? I mean I get it but I wish it didn't all get treated with the same amount of gravity.

  5. The writing on this show is psychotic. I saw a clip of Liam screaming at Hope because she...kissed Thomas. The way characters go off about kissing someone is as bombastic and overly written as full on affairs. And holds longer ramifications!

The way Liam went in on her you would think Hope was getting railed by everyone in the entrance line to the Vatican.

  6. I just hope NC doesn't join Murphy's assembly line of handsome young actors he wants to fcuk. It's nice job security but I'd hate to see him pigeon-holed in the FX cabal for the next decade as one of the interchangeables.

I hate that they've already setup Esme as a romantic spoiler for Sprina. They've been dating for a MONTH. And haven't actually gone on a single date. And they're no closer to having sex than they were 2 years ago. If Spencer and Esme have angry sex I'm gonna be pissed. Spencer and Trina have plenty to contend with without that.

The lighting lately is atrocious, every set is so brightly lit. It's like blinding.

Is Nina's thing going to be lying to men with amnesia?

The entire town wringing their hands over Drew's prison sentence is...just the most slanted writing I've seen in quite some time. We have all of Port Charles crying "Injustice!" over Drew going away for a financial crime he committed. This is a punishment of his own making! And it's not when a character goes to jail for murdering someone evil, they don't have morality on their side, they made purely selfish decisions and now I'm supposed to feel sorry for them? I hope he dies in prison.

Carly's 5 million penalty means nothing.

    1) If Carly can be fined 5 million dollars by the government and has the liquid cash to pay that it becomes of no real punishment. It's a substantial amount of money but she can afford it.

    2) It won't change her quality of life in any way. We won't see Carly clipping coupons, buying in bulk at Costco, asking Josslyn to get a part-time job to help with the bills.

    3) Carly has two multi-millionaire ex-husbands, one of whom she shares a minor child with and even if she didn't he could easily and would happily give her a few million.

So tell me, what was the point of giving Carly that penalty?

  7. They're definitely catering to a more conservative audience.

But the conservative crowd who view themselves as Boss Babes and don't take sh!t from no man except their husband. That's why Carly is now treated like a generally nice person with an attitude and not the extreme narcissist she is. THAT'S why we have Carly of all people saying "I'll pray for you" every other week. Imagine Carly praying.

The other day I think Drew called her the glue that holds her family together. Calm down blockhead.

And characters grow, that's how Rachel went from the villain to heroine on AW. Kim had an affair with her sister's husband on ATWT then went on to become the beloved matriarch of the show. Carly's development has not progressed to that point, she's still just as cruel and vindictive except now it's praised or blatantly ignored.

Yesterday for instance, Sam wasn't even allowed to be mad at Carly for more than a moment.

AND ANOTHER THING Carly had the audacity to bad mouth her "best friend's" husband yet again while commiserating with Sonny. Two of the most self-centered in Port Charles were slagging Ned. "Typical Ned!" They can both go to hell.

When I go on Twitter I see a lot of conversation about Trina, Portia, Jordan, Curtis, Taggert, Spencer - a sense of community and fun that you don't see for the soaps very often now (any conversation I see about DAYS is just people saying how much it sucks). I hope Frank and the rest see that and don't just assume viewers are watching for more of the not-so-greatest hits.

An engaged mostly non-white audience. He wants none of that. He thinks people are on the edge of their wondering if poor cancer-striken Willow is going to die (it would have been nice if they'd given her even one moment of strength during this storyline, except she's been moping around for a year like the school bully is picking on her).

I wonder how many people it pisses off upstairs that Joss and Dex, two conventionally attractive young white in your classic Bad Boy/Good Girl coupling don't have anything close to the response Spencer and Trina have received.

Hi all, I am a soap opera fan. I am 48 and have watched a variety of them through the years. I hate that daytime has dwindled.  I am off for summer break ( I am a high school assistant principal) and am getting ready to have some surgery that will put me down for a bit.  Is there anywhere online that I can watch full episodes of Days from the beginning?? You are all welcome to Private Message me those sites if needed.  Thanks in advance!!!

I don't believe you can. Corday Produtions/Sony haven't released all episode anywhere. You can find some old episodes like this on youtube, and some kind people on this board upload old episodes from other soaps but I don't think that activity exists for DOOL.

And of course current episodes are streaming on Peacock but they only go back to last August.

That GL finale was crazy. And also somehow an okay finale?!

It's really very funny. Frank runs up to Buzz "Hey pop, I gotta run. I've got a date...in the park" Of course you do. Every thing you do is outside.

Daisy is in love with the baby she thought she was her little brother. And she leaves town with the mayor's blonde daughter in a ugly sedan.

There are at least 4 infants in it. And several children under 10. And maybe two pregnancies? Lizzie's pregnant anyway.

Here's half the cast spying on Blake and Frank at the park.

Pretty sure the girl in peach is Scout. Or Avery. One of them.

Most 80's popular heroines have a reasonable amount of children for their time on the show (Marlena, Hope, Kayla, Jen on Days, Laura, Felicia, Holly, on GH, etc).  It's not even like KS was pregnant a bunch and forced the show's hand.  Carly's had approximately 20 pregnancies, Sam has a broken uterus and shouldn't have multiple children, Lulu had 2 kids that BOTH came from the strangest conceptions, Maxie doesn't even have custody of her first child, Sasha had a baby that died, Brooklyn faked a pregnancy, Willow had a cancer pregnancy, Esme has her large baby, and Molly now can't have kids.  Is there any woman of child bearing age on the show besides the teens and Kristina that haven't had a pregnancy story?

    It's really ridiculous.

Baby rabies amongst daytime can all be traced back to, in my mind, Bianca's baby switch. Also the baby switch epidemic of the 2000s. It gives you 9 months at least of story. And a baby switch adds at least another year. Is it interesting story? No but it's a whole lot of time. Pregnancies are also easily network approved, as we've discussed.

I tried to find a picture of the worst moment of all from that finale, the whole repeated interlude where the ENTIRE FÙCKING TOWN roamed the streets together like some sort of Mormon flash mob, trying to chase after Remy and whatserface (Karla Mosley) to help them get married, and then to 'play a prank' on Frank and Blake who were meeting up for an Internet date, and then to race to get to Daisy/Susan, I think? before she left town? It seemed like they did it all because they couldn't afford to use interiors anymore so everyone just kept roaming through the streets and parks of Peapack picking up more and more of the cast. It was like a zombie horde.

Any time I turn on GH and they show or bring up one of the kids, I go down some horrible Wikipedia vortex of trying to figure which f*cking child belongs to which character.

Doesn't Maxie have like three children now?

    3 men. 3 different fathers.

It's crazy to think how soaps once operated. Erica Kane birthed ONE child in her entire 40 years on AMC

I am fascinated by the speculation that Tracy Quartermaine could be the mysterious mobster threatening Sonny.

On the one hand, it makes perfect sense given Austin and his cousin's family connections.  On the other hand, given the knowledge that we have that the actress was only recently put on contract, this couldn't have been the original plan when the plot was pitched because she would not have been available to play out the story.  But, then again, that may explain why it has dragged on for ages.

Wasn't this story just launched in February? Jane's return was announced in March I believe.

  13. Drew is on the show because he's Cameron Mathison and Carly needs a love interest. He's nothing outside of that. And I hate him. CamMat is not a good actor, that was obvious yesterday when KeMo even in her running on fumes state state out-acted him.

I only know who Donna is because of that name (RIP to that member of the GH staff but no one is naming their kid Donna in 2023, especially on a soap opera) and she's younger than the other two who are truly interchangeable. Just two brunette children. This show is drowning in brown-haired children with no purpose. Back in the day Liz's kids, who are teenagers in real time mind you, would be kicking off a summer story. But the cast is too top-heavy for any of that. Can't write for teenagers when Robert is in the middle of a lukewarm romance with bit player Diane or Jordan is on everyday stinking up our screens with her who cares romance with Portia's brother (this actor is great, he deserves a better pairing).

Leo is the only child on the show with any personality.

I know it won't happen, on a better show it would, but I'd love it if Taggert's new position as police commissioner lead him to finally taking down Sonny. A 30 year old feud finally comes to a head as he institutes a task force to bring down Corinthos Coffee.

It will forever bother me that they've made NOTHING out of his daughter dating a man related to two people he can't stand.

In my mind, Ned is playing a game with this Eddie Maine stuff, so he can lull Nina into a false sense of security, only to lower the boom on her later (preferably, during her and Sonny's wedding).

Soap characters no longer have any integrity but I'd be pretty upset about Ned allowing his autistic son to be traumatized by his father's rejection. So it'll probably happen.

And I don't think the show is trying to say that Eddie Maine was ever a separate personality for Ned, just that the head trauma has caused him to disassociate. I would have preferred your 1995 idea @carolineg. If they'd secured Rena Sofer he could have woken up calling for Lois (or Katherine even), asked Tracy when she got so old, wondering how the hell Lois convinced him to name their child "Brooklyn". It would've been fun!

GH has done a great job of making Portia unlikable.

She's the only likable one out of the whole Black Bunch if you ask me.

Lisa LoCicero and Jane Elliot are working overtime to make something out of this Ned amnesia plot point. The Tracy/Leo scene was very sweet and very Tracy.

The writing for Nina is so bad.

BLQ: My dad think he's Eddie Maine, he doesn't even know I'm his daughter!

Nina: So--so you're saying he doesn't remember what the initials S. E. C. stand for?

She did, she talked about it on Andy Cohen show she was a guest on. She was sitting with Gabrielle Union and said she didn't know who he was and when she did find out she was surprised he was still alive. But she said she didn't care about his rant.

    Hahaha that's even better!
