Lazy, unimaginative paint-by-the-numbers storytelling. Why is this so drrrrrrrry

They were in an impossible position. Being overly critical resulted in the shows punishing them by limiting access. Yet lack of criticism drove readers away.

During my middle/high school years I'd often find an empty cashier lane at Publix and do my weekly SOD reading (no allowance, no job and frugality. Don't judge me.) Memories.

OLTL killing off both Jessica and Natalie's best love interests is still so bizarre to me.

This is fantastic.

"AJ! I don't think that boy has ever seen black people up too close!"

"I mean come on, those people don't even have black servants in the house!"

"That Reggie wore himself out trying to hide all the little lawn jockeys before we got there! I can see it now 'Oh, Master Quartermaine, how shall we hide all the little colored men on the lawn?'"

It's always crazy to me when soaps have a character involved in multiple dead baby stories. Frankly Nicole is too old for this nonsense.

Anyway, that promo felt like a parody of a soap commercial. So much random soapy things.

I love the idea that they don't have each other's phone numbers.

What exactly sounds good to everyone? Genuinely.

Danny's back in town. There will be flashbacks. What. Is. The. Story?

Remember when it was a fun bit of trivia that Erica Kane had a long list of former surnames? Now it's every other character.

Most of these decisions to marry characters off come down to the limitations of the genre, how do you build up to a conclusion on a show that never ends? How do you culminate a love story without a wedding? And you're all right, a bigger problem is when the marriages last under a year. It makes you wonder what the point was.

Especially when certain characters (Jack on Y&R for instance) say the same flowery BS to everyone they marry.

Steve Burton's looking very Freddy Krueger-ish.

They both have aged so spectacularly. And I don't watch Y&R anymore but I hope this sticks. These people are in their 60s. Make this marriage last, cement them as the cornerstones of the Abbott family and be done with it.

That entire promo should have been dedicated to Rena's return. It's been 27 YEARS! Don't nobody care about Nina's DCF case.

Maybe I run in the wrong circles where apparently people were salivating over the misadventures of Skye Chandler. I'm serious when I say that since the moment she showed up on OLTL I have seen nothing but groans at her existence. The general consensus was, to me, "Why is she here?" which turned into "Why is she still here?" .

Heather Tom has a fanbase and the soap community clearly loves her. It's Katie, the character, who doesn't seem to have any fans.

Please. Let's not lie to ourselves. I'm comparing her to actual popular characters like Bo and Hope, Victoria Lord, Lily Snyder, Mac Cory, etc.

I think Bryton is an uninspiring actor playing a character with no purpose. I have never liked him. And frankly the show doesn't like him or Devon either but they're stuck with him.

Youtube recommended to me an old General Hospital promo featuring the Brenda, Jax and Skye love triangle. Which reminded yet again that Skye Chandler was a lead character over a nearly 30 year span on All My Children, One Life to Live and GH.

And I can not recall any sort of widespread interest from fans in her or her antics. I never felt any clamoring to see more of her or people shaking their fist when her story was at lull. She was largely just...there. To interlope and trade witty one-liners with whatever woman she hated that week.

Yet ABC found her interesting to keep her around across multiple shows and regimes.

Can we think of other characters that were in lead story for a long time yet never seemed to have any sort of fanbase? They kinda just did their thing and we all said "Sure!".

BTW don't come for me Skye/Robin Christopher fans. I know there are tens of you! I get it! But that doesn't compare to Brenda's millions, alright?

Honest to god does ANYTHING happen on this show besides people acquiring businesses/getting new jobs and lukewarm flirting?

One positive: Veronica Redd looks great (love the hair and black really don't crack because not her looking younger than Traci).

I think the first time I actively chose, as in not being driven by being a child in school lol, to stop watching a soap was when AMC had Janet kill her former prison mate with a giant candy cane and then writing out the entire Dillon family. I loved them and thought Tim was hot and was sorry to see them go.
