Recognizing you weren't a good guy is the first step towards becoming one. I have a lot of negative feelings about MB and Sonny but I do acknowledge he does seem to sincerely trying on a journey to being a decent guy. Which is more than I can say for a lot of other soap actors, so I will take it.

Found this on YouTube: May I say that MB is awful here? Maybe he was uncomfortable 😉 Soapcentral also refers to Skye "Lock(ing) herself in a meat locker and said that Sonny did it" circa 2002 and I don't remember that but I imagine that must have triggered a couple of scenes between them.

Will soaps start firing actors who aren't fully vaccinated?
The irony here is that the only reason it happened at GH imho is because Nancy pushed for it publicly as vocally as she did - and Ingo who is a moron in more ways than one made the situation impossible for producers by being as pig-headedly vocal in return. I say she deserves the credit, not Valentini. I am almost certain they would have been happy to muddle through if it hadn't been playing out in public. It is obvious other shows also have massive anti-vaxxxers on their sets and do not want to rock the boat by setting a mandate. And since those anti-vaxxxers are smarter than Ingo and shut up about it on one hand, and the sane ones are less courageous than NLG and are also not speaking up, the shows can afford to skate by without public accountability on this. Even from the universe of people we *know* are probably not vaccinated, I can see why it puts decision-makers in a tough spot. For instance Bell is writing B&B around JMW. We are not talking about expendables like Gabi or Jax here. If she says no, she has a lot of leverage. And I bet it is similar at other shows with people we don't even suspect.

General Hospital October 2021 Discussion Thread
Oh it has to be. I am not a NC groupie but he can act and he can turn on the charm when he wants. So he wouldn't play it THAT way so consistently if it wasn't intentional. But I said before, it kinda had been going on too long without explaining us WHY they are together if Spencer is so not into it. This is all very confusing but I need at least a hint. If they know where they are going with this of course. Which, based on recent track record, they might not.

You can't deny Bell can write iconic camp moments of trashiness. Problem is you can't build a daily soap on "moments".

Actors who followed a writer/EP from show to show
He was part of the retcon of Cane's backstory so can't blame you for blocking that out of your memory. Wish I had! (although to be fair the fact Cane was Australian made PL a decent casting idea for a horrible role in a horrible story)

I am not going to deny that almost everything they wrote for Skye felt like they first wrote what they wanted for everybody else and then were like "So we have Skye and <insert other leftover character here> so let's keep them busy together in a C-level story". But I could watch RC read the phone book so I didn't mind and I still wish she was around. I will say that it strikes me that a huge chunk of Nina' stories could have been told almost wholesale with Skye instead. Especially since we know from AMC that she and JPS have good chemistry. But it is what it is. Hope she pops up for a visit some time though.

ALL: You couldn’t imagine THEM playing THAT story
1000% accurate. Wasn it actually one of the reasons (making Thorne a sexier lead) Thorne was recast in the first place or did Trachta leave of his own accord and they just went that route for the recast?

Any specific anecdote to share for those of us who vaguely know his reputation but never any specifics?

You know how they suggest to people who get older to do crosswords and things like that to exercise their brain and not lose neurones as fast as they would otherwise? I have been arguing for decades now that I watch soaps to exercise my memory so that I don't get one of these horrible mind diseases that too often go with getting old. As long as I can list all the Presidents and Brooke Logan's lovers in order, I am good.

Y&R October 2021 Discussion Thread
Yep. Thirding this sentiment of complete discouragement. I watch the show with a gaped mouth at how it is possible for a show to have been flatlining so low without any sign of life for so long. As I said before, even the worst headwriters usually have at least some horrible bad stories here and there or super irrating characters that we can get angry at. Here there is nothing. I don't even have enough to be pissed at or hate or have any kind of emotion or reaction. Watching something cook in my oven has more drama, suspense or emotional investment than this. It is quite a feat of sucking any life or creativity out of a show with so much going for it on paper. And for Sony to care so little that they can be satisfied with this creative nothingness.

B&B October 2021 Discussion Thread
The Ridge/Bridget flirtation is in my top five of worst things to ever happen on a soap but, to be fair, I am positive that Jennifer Finnigan played Bridget when they tried to go there. Talking about Nick, I don't necessarily miss him and it won't happen anyway but it is SO weird to me - if I take the BB universe at face value that he is Ridge's brother and the father of Brooke's son) that he is going completely utterly unmentioned.

Onscreen all the time and we liked it
Trying to figure out if she is the record-holder. Because her work load slightly slowed down later it may not. Her ratio of appearances based on those numbers for the first 15 years would be 0.767. I figured it'd be easier to find if someone approached that pace if I looked at dead soaps. I first thought of Sunset Beach that did tend to overexpose a handful of characters. But the record-holder for that show isn't who I thought it would be: Clive Robertson as Ben (and Derek) appeared in 571 of 755 episodes, a ratio of 0.756 just a tad under her albeit obviously for a MUCH shorter length of time (under three years). The numbers for Passions are not full (this is based on imdb but imdb has the full count as 1608 episodes vs 2235 actual episodes). But get this: Lindsay Hartley appeared in 1238 of those 1608 episodes for a ratio of 0.769. Technically, she beats Mary Stuart! I still think MS is the record-holder by virtual of her run being much longer but, to the surprise of no one who watched, Theresa was on all the time. The episode count for other series is definitely wrong so it only gives a sample of how much people were on. For Loving for instance, Lisa Peluso has the most but it is a bit less than half of the time (which considering she joined the cast only halfway through would be a hint she was on a lot while she was there however). Ryan's Hope is missing a third of its episode count on IMDB too but for those they have Nancy Addison is the record holder, again roughly half of the time. Really wish we had more exact numbers coz this is, dare I say it, fun.

In more ways than one. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/soap-actor-sean-kanan-on-angelina-jolies-trump-stance Maybe Bell can also invite back "Dante Damiano" to really put a cherry on the top of the turd cake.

I suppose that they - rightfully- assume the NBC audience has mostly not seen Beyond Salem so a picture of Tinker's Sonny would be like "who is that?" for most of them.

This is what happens when you don't know how to write organic drama for your existing characters. You have to rely on *really random* rabbits from a hat.
