Thank you. I assume it was decided to expand Y&R as it was performing better. Then with the decline of SFT in the 80s, it was never seen as viable to expand the soap again. I wonder how much P&G was involved in these decisions. I also wonder if the decline of Another World had any influence on the matter.

Does anyone know if there were plans to expand SFT to an hour? Sister soaps, ATWT and GL, were expanded to an hour in 1975 and 1977 respectively. SFT ranked in the Top 5 for the 1974/75 - 1976/77 seasons, the seasons before and during the expansion of both ATWT and GL. In fact, SFT outperformed GL in 1974/75 and 1975/76 and pretty much on par with GL the following season. Did SFT remaining a half hour soap as most soaps on the lineup expanded end up hurting it? It seems like half hour soaps usually ended up being mistreated by networks as they just weren't sure where to place it on the schedule.

She was supposedly deleting her instagram account and transitioning to hew new account because she was quitting drag as it no longer was relevant to who she is now, but now all of a sudden she went on a posting tirade and is coming for Raven, Kennedy, Trixie and Michelle Visage. I do understand that Raven's dark makeup is problematic in a few photos, but the manner which she is going about it is just coming from a place of hurt and anger and it's not a good look at all. She is handling it very poorly. I don't understand what she's trying to get across with Michelle. In the interviews leading up to season 3, Michelle said she loves Tyra and thinks she's a great queen but she would have fought for Raven to win. Now while I get that may be hurtful to hear, that is an opinion. She didn't say Tyra is horrible or that Tyra wasn't a good drag queen. She was merely expressing an opinion and she said it in a very nice way. Tyra says this interview ultimately caused all the backlash she received from fans and the attacks through the years. Michelle can't control how moronic fans act and threatening to post her phone number on instagram unless she apologizes is not coming from a healthy place. Pick up the phone and handle your business like an adult. Apparently, she posted Kennedy's number and then deleted it after Kennedy reached out to apologize for whatever interview she did that also triggered Tyra.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Justin played Joey Lupo around 2003/4. He wasn't on for very long and I don't remember much as far as storylines go, but I recall his character being seen mostly with Tammy. I had just started watching Guiding Light in '03 and remember him physically but not so much in regards to the character's story.- MTV: RuPaul's Drag Race
Have any of you caught the mess Tyra Sanchez has been posting on Instagram.? I know she feels like she was mistreated, the fanbase was definitely awful to her, and Drag Race certainly had many missteps with their queens of color and the racist fanbase. However, she is going about it in a very messy way and some of her arguments for example the Michelle Visage one isn't fully making sense to me.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

That photo has got to be edited. She did not show up to a red carpet with that hair.- Racism and racial representation on soaps
Surely not, but I'm sure it didn't cross their mind to have racially diverse dolls since the show lacks so much in diversity. Similarly, I think the lack of diversity comes from the top and stems from an irrational fear of scaring off the last remaining viewers. As if having black characters front and center is going to drive away white viewers.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

I'm guessing they only got white dolls. No Black characters will be having sex on BB or that theory about Steffy being with a black man again is out (maybe she'll hook up with a woman) since they're only getting two blow up dolls from what I understood from a previous post and they'll be switching out their wigs depending on the character they represent.- Racism and racial representation on soaps

[!@#$%^&*] confirmed two of the actresses, but I'm curious who's the third. It's a bit disappointing but [!@#$%^&*] said that they mended fences and are cool now. I would like to have more details . Edit: Not sure why that name is coming out like that, but ok- The Preemption/Out of Pattern Thread
Haha! I just realized I was misunderstanding CT as Connecticut not Central Time I was wondering why only Connecticut was a day behind :)) It would seem obvious to offer another feed for the time zone, but either way these daytime irregularities are interesting to me.- The Preemption/Out of Pattern Thread
Thanks. Is it known why AMC was a day behind in CT? I wasn't aware how crazy affiliate programming can get especially for daytime until I started watching soaps and got on these boards. I'm in the NYC area so all my stations are O&O. When I started watching soaps on my own in 2003, aside from GL being on at 10am (which actually most CBS O&Os already made the move anyway by this time) all other soaps were scheduled at their 'usual' timeslot. I even remember PC being on at 12:30 after the news and it wasn't until it was at the very end that it was moved to the late night timeslot. Even before I started watching on my own, I remember SB and AW and PAS always being on at their regular time in the 90s. I think the first time I was really thrown off was when I stopped watching soaps for a while and one day when I was home from work I decide to check in on Days at 1pm and something else was on. I thought it had been cancelled and I didn't know about it since it had been quite sometime since I even watched or followed any news regarding soaps. I quickly checked online and found out that it had moved to noon which was so weird at the time as I always remember it on at 1pm. Similarly, GH was on at 2pm on ABC which was also odd, but it's since returned to 3pm. @soapfan770 Interesting seeing ATWT at 10am and YR at 3pm. CBS did quiet a bit of shuffling- The Preemption/Out of Pattern Thread
Was the ABC trifecta AMC, OLTL, and GH the most respected soaps by affiliates as far as scheduling and timeslot. I feel like you don't really hear about many affiliates having aired those three out of pattern or if they did not at an unusual or unreasonable timeslot like some of the other soaps.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
It looked like ratings were pretty strong in early 1999, I'm not sure whether the story was popular with fans but it did have a positive impact in ratings. The highest numbers for GL for the 98/99 season all happened around that time (Jan-Mar 1999). In fact the last time GL scored a 4.3 or higher was in 97 during the Annie story and one more time in November 97 and those were rare. That 4.6 is impressive for GL for 97.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Thank you for that info. Those were some underwhelming ratings for Jeva weddings then. Meanwhile, Danny and Michelle's 1999 Wedding scored a 4.2, GL's second highest rating that year, and highest overall ranking that year- coming in 5th in HH for the week. However, GL was performing much better in the earlier part of the year as I mentioned before. Nonetheless, it says something about the couple that it was able to rank 5th overall.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Did any of the Jeva weddings boost GL's ratings? The question came to mind when I looked at my avatar and recalled a thread about soap ratings in the 80s and how supercouple weddings were a big pull (the supposed big ratings for Steve and Betsy's wedding on ATWT which may in fact not have been that big and Patch and Kayla's wedding on Days). I'm not some Jeva stan even though I have them on my avatar, I actually just really like the photo and the colors. I think Josh and Reva as characters and actors are great but I wonder if they had any real influence as a supercouple. This is what I found: 1989 Wedding Ratings (This is the only wedding I didn't find ratings for the week of the wedding, but I did find ratings for the week before and after. Wikipedia shows GL ranking 7th overall for the 1988/89 season. The week before and after the wedding, GL also ranked 7th. One thing I noticed for Patch and Kayla's wedding was that the ratings for Days climbed leading up to the wedding and peaked for the week of.) 1999 Wedding Ratings (According to Wiki, GL averaged a 3.5 for the 98/99 season. To put it into perspective, GL had a rating between 3.9 and 4.3 from January to mid-March in 1999 with only two weeks below a 4.0. It then remained mostly in the mid-high 3's. The two weeks leading up to the wedding GL scored a 3.6 and the two weeks after scored a 3.5 and 3.8. It also scored a 4.0 the week in June where Max learns Drew isn't his sister.) 2002 Wedding Ratings (According to Wikipedia, GL averaged a 3.0 for the 2001/2002 season. In early 2002, GL was scoring above or at a 3.0 until NCAA preemptions in early March brought it below a 3.0 (for the first time I believe) it rebounded to a 3.0 for two weeks after but then spent the rest of the season in the mid and high 2's. Not even the wedding helped.)
