  1. Fun promos!
  2. I can see what everyone means about Kimberly/Michael/Rae/Senaca. Although I have really enjoyed the storyline up to this point, I'm beginning to tire of it. I'm in February of 1981. 1461-1465 are this week's episodes. Rae saw the Valentine gift Kimberly sent Michael so she knows something is going on but needs proof before she go about destroying their lives. This is something that I hope isn't dragged out a long time but rather resolves pretty quickly. Fingers crossed! Oh, and Delia's Crystal Palace has been vandalized. I hope it's not gone forever; I liked that set!
  3. As The World Still Turns has a jump from 2-28-88 to 3-25-88. A HUGE THANK YOU to whoever it was that posted the SOD ATWT Updates many pages back. Thanks to that, it's so easy to figure out what happened in-between! James has been discovered to be alive. I'm glad that it's happening right away - that Marland had this planned from the start. I was worried that in '92 or '93 or something, James would return from the dead and they would retroactively have him not be murdered. The dental work of James/Nick is a ridiculous Stenbeck plot twist which I can appreciate because I know in the aughts, it just gets even crazier! Sierra is gone - back to Montega. Without Craig, I supposed what else did she have to do? I had no idea someone other than Lea Salonga played Lien. I like this actress, so far, but was never a fan of Lien in the aughts - am curious to see how she fits into the canvas in the 80's. I really like Seth - the actor and the character. He's a little mopey but, had I watched it at the time, my teenage self would've been madly in love with him. I just can't stand Sabrina - hate that I usually have to see her as well whenever he's around. Oh, and anything with Laura Whatever and Beau With The Long Hair has me wanting to hit the fast forward button. I have yet to do it because I'm still too grateful to have so much ATWT I've never seen. I'm trying to go with it. Just realized that, if I'm at the end of March already, the writers strike is fast approaching......How bad is the ATWT 80s writers strike considered to be?
  4. @mango I know - it's sooooooo frustrating. I think there must just be no way for them to make any money off of it due to that 80 per cent. Still...the soaps classics people, I'm sure, would do it as a labor of love. It might take years and years to accomplish, but I'd help out if someone could teach me how to do it. I don't know if that's possible as I don't know just what it entails. But I'd be willing to learn! Ah well, I'm sure I'm dreaming. There's an app called BroadwayHD which is trying to gain traction. Right now, they don't have a lot of content of any value, so I think they've had a hard time getting many takers for the amount it costs per month. But, once the content was digitized, there are so many soaps owned by P&G. Throw Dark Shadows, The Doctors, and Ryan's Hope on there and you've got a ton of content worth a $20 per month ask.
  5. I don't think I could handle a reboot. Seeing someone else be Kim and Bob or Lisa or Nancy, or god forbid, Lucinda and John, Lily and Holden or Carly and Jack?????? I was so sad when Soap Classics lost the rights to all the P&G shows. I loved watching their 1979-1980 episodes they posted, as well as getting some of their collections. I preferred the ones that did several weeks in a row rather than just random episodes. I think that was just because I had only seen the '00's and had no idea who so many characters from the 80s and 90s were. I would pay good money - I mean I would bankrupt myself, in order to buy episodes of ATWT in good quality. I'd pay $20/month for access to a streaming service. Ultimately, I'm glad that such a thing doesn't exist as I would spend most of my time revisiting soaps and checking out ones that I never watched!
  6. @amybrickwallace I had to google it. Yes, it seems it was his first soap. I recognized the actor's face but didn't know why until I looked up his resume. I remember him from OLTL when I was a kid!
  7. I don't know how everyone else feels about the Joe Novak's - I enjoyed the first Joe just fine. Didn't go crazy over him but I enjoyed him And he and Siobhan were great, I thought. So I feel a little guilty enjoying Roscoe Born so much. He has a devil of a smile. Super charming. And he and this new Siobhan have great chemistry. I guess I'm glad that they recast both of them at the same time. I'm digging it and am looking forward to 2018/1981!
  8. @DRW50 Thanks again for posting. Crazy to watch the episodes you posted. I stuck with this show until the bitter end but I remember being bored a lot of the time. The show certainly doesn't have much spark in those two episodes. Although you see the beginning of Doreen's potential. A lot of the episodes posted throughout the thread are gone now, alas, but I watched the few that do exist. I'm sure the rest of the show doesn't hold up today - at least not as well as others have - but I'd still love to rewatch it to see how much I would remember!
  9. I totally get what you mean. As much as Ilene's acting bugs me, I do get that she IS Delia. Delia just bug me.
  10. I so wish I had RetroTV!! I don't, in general, love shows that spend most of their time in a hospital, but it's such an old show, I wouldn't mind checking it out.
  11. That's what I'll always remember her from - I only watched SB because it came on after AW but Mattson (and Deas) was one of the main reasons I hung around after AW was over.
  12. What Watson71 said! And she was brilliant from the get go. When I was a kid, I started with AW in 1987, just after Philece Sampler took over the role. I enjoyed her as a kid and I was soooooo disappointed when I read in SOD that she had left the show and the original actress was coming back. I clearly remember thinking, after Stuart's first scene back, "Well, I see why everyone loved the old Donna so much!" I was a fan from that point forward.
  13. Thanks, all! I can't believe Robin Mattson played the role for awhile. I could definitely see that!
  14. @DRW50 Thanks for the tip! I'll do just that!
  15. I'm almost there on my re-watch. Am at June '89. I'm glad to see episodes keep popping up!
  16. @DRW50 OMG - if ever there were a show I wish I could go back and watch in its entirety, it's GENERATIONS!!!! I'm going to have to watch these tonight. I looked once for eps on YT and I couldn't really find any.
  17. @amybrickwallace Well, since I can't stand IK's acting, I think the story wouldn't have annoyed me as much because I'd just hate Delia. I also don't know if the writers would have changed the character of Delia and had her grow the way they did under Randall. What bothers me the most is the regression of the character. But it goes beyond regression. Delia never tried to physically harm anyone other than herself, which makes sense to me. Maeve just said a line "She's not vindictive or cruel. She's needy and she's selfish." However, running down someone with your car IS vindictive and cruel. That goes WAY beyond needy and selfish. Roger has mentioned that Delia has regressed into needing the love of the Ryan family again. Ok....fine. But running down another human being in cold blood takes everything to an entirely other level. One that I can't just write off and say "Oh, that crazy Delia. She's always doing something." SHE TRIED TO KILL SOMEONE!!! I can see that I am just not going to be able to get past this. But Randall leaves soon anyway, doesn't she? I know IK comes back at some point. At this point, I just want her back so I can ignore the character again.
  18. Everything has come out with the Delia/Barry/Faith accident - even Maeve shunned Delia, and in fact, recoiled in horror when Delia tried to touch her. I don't get how the show is ever going to make it believable that Delia stays on the show. She tried to murder someone in cold blood. That's something from which there is no turning back. I'm surprised that the writers took it that far. And I'll be interested to see what they do to try to make me care about that character ever again. How could any of those people continue to have a relationship with her? Oh, I know she still owns the bar but still.....I'm really just completely perplexed by the entire storyline.
  19. @DramatistDreamer Ah yes, I didn't see any of the non-engagement party. I just heard about it.
  20. Sad to hear. I hope she's able to find help as well. The acting industry is rough.
  21. I'm not sure if a lot of what you've mentioned has happened yet. Meg is not a partner in Tonio's business that I'm aware of. It could have happened and I just missed the episodes though. He is on his way to Rome right now to do business with Visconti and he asked Meg to go with him - she broke the news to the family that the two of them will not travel to Chicago with the rest of the Snyders for Sabrina's art show. Tonio is not talking to Meg as if she is a business partner, just like a wife who wants to take a free trip to Rome. I mentioned in my post, that it *looks* like Meg is maybe finally starting to care for Tonio and him in return. They're flirting with each other slightly and teasing each other. It's fun to see them start to take their relationship - which was based on a business agreement of Tonio staying in the country and Meg making him sign a pre-nump taking care of her own interests in life, namely having a lot of material goods - seriously It will be interesting to watch these two continue. And yes, not being able to see every episode definitely hurts my ability to relate to couples. If I can't actually see the build up with the characters, it's difficult to become emotionally involved. Lucinda/John Shannon/Duncan Lisa/Earl Those are the couples to whom I had no original attachment from the '00s but I've been able to fall in love with due to their episodes being available. If only I could see every single episode of ATWT. Maybe someday......you never know. I never would've thought there be over 5,000 available to view so who knows! HAHA!! Yeah...I can already tell I'm not going to be a fan of hers. I'm hoping she won't be on too long, or that many of her episodes will be missing. The 40th anniversary book only has her listed as being on in 1988 so I'm hoping for a short story. I also know that I'm going into the dreaded 1988 writer's strike.......
  22. Ok, I’ll try to make this quick. Sorry for what will, most likely, be a TL:DR situation but I have nowhere else to share my thoughts on ATWT. I’ve finished 1987 for the first time (celebrated Christmas with everybody - they all sang around the piano this year) and have moved onto ’88. I just haven't had a moment to sit down and collect my 1987 thoughts. 1987 The Highlights: John & Lucinda - Yes, please. I could watch them all day. What is there to say? They’re marvelous. I knew the pairing was coming and I just didn’t think it would work for me but it sure has! Lily/Everyone - I haven’t seen all of soapdom. (I’ve seen a lot.) But I think, arguably, there’s never been a better reveal than “Let go of her. Let go of her she’s your BABY!!!” I just had to relive it in my head as I typed that - insane good TV. I don’t know how everyone else feels about the Summer Repertory Season with Mrs. Gilmore (Love me some Kelly Bishop) but I enjoyed it. Lily and Holden got away for a summer. We had a cute little Pollyanna type story. It worked for me. Lily had to grow up somehow and being on her own for a summer seemed to do it. She now wears lots of make up and has big hair. James Stenbeck - great storyline. I missed out on some of the intricacies of it - especially with what involved Duncan and anything at the castle but the murder set up was great. I honestly don’t know who shot him and can’t figure it out - it could be anyone. Of course, I know he’s not dead so some of the details, like he was shot in the back of the head - really? how do we explain this one? I mean, do they just retroactively (don’t tell me) make it Costello who got shot and James escaped? They’ve said the dental records of the dead body are James’……Anyway, my money is on Emily - there’s something in the actress’ performance that says she’s dangerous. I believe she’d kill someone Oh, but the TRIAL….why did they put reverb on the actors voices when they were giving testimony on opening/closing statements? Super weird. 1987 1987 The Low Points: The Sabrina Reveal & Frannie/Seth/Sabrina - Most of this is missing from YT (at least from what I could find) The episodes do exist where they save Sabrina in the church but I didn’t get to see all of the buildup. Also, the episodes I saw (I think there were 120 or so of the year) didn’t really have the Frannie/Seth/Sabrina triangle storyline. Once again though, they had the big moment of Seth sleeping with the wrong sister. I just didn’t get the build up to it. So I wasn’t emotionally involved in the story. Frannie seems to have moved to Boston and I frankly couldn’t care less. The Inbetween: Craig/Sierra/Tonio - I’ve been vocal in the past about the fact that I have no love for this version of Craig and Sierra BUT I warmed to them by the end. I actually feel as if Craig is still on the show because they talk about him all the time. Steve/Betsy - I can’t believe all the stuff that happened this year! Steve leaving - good riddance. I get what a part of the canvas he was, though. Betsy hasn’t has had a lot to do other than grieving Steve and grieving Craig. Meg/Tonio - another couple I’ve warmed to over the months. Neither of them really care for each other and they both know it. Although, that seems to be changing these days maybe? Lily/Holden/Dusty/Emily - yeah, it’s a little contrived but only a little. For a soap, I’ll take it. Holden is lashing out - he’s frickin’ howling Lily’s name like a wolf (a tad too much) - watching him team up with Tonio and vowing revenge on Lucinda is genius. Bring on 1988! Love this Emily - I’m assuming she loses the child - unless there’s a forgotten baby that never got mentioned post 2000. (It could happen) I feel like I’m cheating on Lily & Holden by saying this but I think I may prefer Lily & Dusty. Lyla/Casey - Don’t nobody take my Lyla & Casey away from me. I love these two. So happy to see them wed! I was super sad to see Earl go. My delightful Shannon O’Hara seems to be stuck in that castle. Now, there’s a ghost mystery story I’m sure many will remember. Oh, and Beatrice is having a baby which has Duncan concerned because of the curse. So many characters, I know I’m forgetting some. Kim’s talk show - super 80s. Andy drinking. Meh. I’ve never been a fan of Andy’s. I only saw his last year though so there’s just no attachment to him. That may change. Pam? Who the heck is this chick and why is she hanging around so long? Ok…I’m off to 1988 land. Bob just stopped someone from being raped! I can't believe I can't come up with her name 'cause they've said it at least 5 times. Laura Simmons? Pam is making friends with the alleged rapist. Thanks for reading this far! I love As The World Turns!!!!
  23. Oof? What's he teaching? How To Destroy A Soap Opera 101?
  24. Great clip fest!! So fun to see everyone
  25. @amybrickwallace Wow! I didn't know that. Thanks for the info! I'll have to poke around YT sometime and see if I can explore Loving a bit more.
