  1. Interesting. I always wonder what "the true story" is when someone re-writes the past and what they've said about it. Michael was a pretty terrible (read: great) character. He wanted a better life for himself and he didn't care who he was going to screw over to make it happen. I mean, he set Jack up on Joe's behalf. Jack has lost his job, his reputation, his ability to get any other job in his line of work. Also, he was sleeping with mother and daughter (is there anything more heinous in soaps?) and telling them both how much he loved and adored them. After absolutely nothing happening to Delia in regards to the attempted murder of Barry Ryan, it's nice to see a nasty character get what was coming to them!! Rae too.
  2. Thanks for the info! I would've said that H&M premiered in '81 from my memory. I was only 9 then which means I would've been 11 when it premiered. Most of my childhood years flow into each other though so I'm not shocked at having the years mixed up. Ha! Also, I thought of that AR Frank scene as well. I found that one to be far more ridiculous than the 1981 jogging scene. I also didn't care for AR's Frank though so it could have something to do with it. Back to RH today. What will happen this week??!!! He did get hit by the car. Ended up in the hospital. Frank wasn't able to really speak for awhile or say his name (which is why I was thinking amnesia) - all he could get out was "Jill", even though he was about to marry Faith. So Jill was the one who showed up at the hospital and it was this that helped Frank to realize that he wasn't in love with Faith and couldn't marry her. I was sooooooooo glad he figured that out before the wedding so I didn't have to go through their weird marriage before he figured it out and then have to go through a divorce.
  3. Yes, the Frank jogging scene happened already. That is such a staple of Daytime Drama (milking the location shooting for all its worth - even if it's just around the corner from the studio) that I didn't even think twice about it. I just knew that DHK has to be leaving for Hardcastle & McCormick soon so I thought he was going to get hit by a car, get amnesia, and disappear from the show for awhile. (I was glad to be wrong about that.) It was nearly as bad as that endless Ireland location shooting with nothing but voice over from Mary Ryan - LOL It also reminded me of someone on AMC who was headed to the altar (to Tad?) running in her wedding dress through snowy streets for half an episode before being hit by a car. Or Nicole on AW on her horse headed for the giant truck coming her way for half an episode. Soaps love to justify the location shooting!
  4. Oh my Lord, people!! This week's Ryan's Hope episodes were insane!! I could barely keep myself to watching one episode a day. Last Friday, Rae showed up at the houseboat with a gun to find Kim and Michael together. After being annoyed with the storyline for awhile this spring, I got WAY back into it when Michael started really playing both of them as well as helping Joe to set up Jack. I had been anxiously awaiting Michael's comeuppance and I was shocked at just how quickly it came. Every day was must see TV this week - just for the sheer insanity that occurred. The end to Tuesday's ep into the beginning of Wednesday's, where Kim shot the gun and both Rae and Michael were directed to have a huge reaction and then freeze for roughly 10-15 seconds while the camera went from the one to other - SOMETIME IN EXTREME CLOSE UPS!!!! - was just too much. I thought the entire week was written well but the directing and the acting didn't match. The actress who plays Rae seems to have a difficult time playing Rae as incredibly stupid and humiliating as she has become; she got back into it once she was confessing to Frank in order to save Kim from going to trial/prison. I have no idea how the storyline will play itself out but I predict that it will be discovered that Sal killed Michael when he went to put pressure on him for Joe. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the storyline play out. I want to see Senaca divorce the conniving little witch - and then he can leave the show as far as I'm concerned - what the hell has he had to do for the past year??!! I want to continue to see Rae put through the ringer for all of the horrible things she has done in the past. I want to see Kim lose EVERYTHING!!!! The Ryan family (what little of it that's left) has been supremely boring lately. Somebody give them a storyline asap!
  5. I don't think so. I was on '86 last year, Jan-June. I don't recall seeing the end of the trial. The story was pretty complete all through the kidnaping and his/Kevin's death. I saw a bit of the trial but not the end. Also, when Marsha escaped prison and went after Frannie...I think one day of that exists on YT, maybe 2, but I didn't get to see how they got resolved either.
  6. I'm so sorry to hear that. They must be devastated.
  7. I didn't much care for Pam when she first arrived in Oakdale. It was another character of which I had never heard, she didn't do much - at least in the episodes I could find - however, I've come to enjoy her as an actress, definitely. Even though I don't enjoy Beau all that much, it's through this storyline that I've warmed to her. Sounds as if she never really gets much of a chance to shine after this though. All soaps at that time had those B or C characters, as said above, and I agree that the character works quite well as one of those. I see that my writing was misleading in an earlier post. When I said I was glad "she" was gone, I meant Laura. I do enjoy Pam. As you said, Beau though...not so much.
  8. Pam did get the baby out of the house - I saw that day - that was May 23rd. I hadn't thought about the fact that it might've been pre-empted that day in that market. I'm just glad she's gone. Now, if only Beau would go along with her.....
  9. I still have hope that one day all of those P&G soaps are going to be available for all to see somehow on some platform. Somehow, someday, the right person will be in charge, and digitizing old episodes of TV will be so easy and cost such a minimal amount, that we'll get some online soap opera channel. Mark my words - coming to us in 2032!!
  10. I do remember being upset that I didn't get to see Barbara exposed for that, too. Her comeuppance would've been nice to see. But I also adore Barbara with every fiber of my being (even when she's being horrible - so really, it's my love for Colleen Zenk overriding my annoyance at Barbara's actions) and seeing it might have wounded my soul a bit. Looking ahead to the 1988 playlists on YouTube...it looks as if most of this year will be frustrating ATWT watching. Most of the writers' strike episodes are there; however, by the end of October, when Marland and crew are back, the rest of the year is mostly missing. Blerg! (Haven't delved into what exists of '89 yet.)
  11. At least the Tad Channing one had the resolution - Hal standing in the closet with the shoe confronting the murderer. The set up to it wasn't there, IIRC, the story jumped right to the end but I at least go to see it. (Oh, and side note, I LOVE how they used that character once Barbara was in prison, too.) Thanks for the heads up about Brock Lombard - that's a name I will not soon forget and, when he comes on, I'll keep in the back of my head that the resolution isn't there to see.
  12. I hear ya - I'm a broke performer. However, I'm mostly broke because I spend all my money watching other people perform. I can't help myself. I could watch people act and sing all day long. Even when it's not the best performance, it absolutely fascinates me. I'm sure this will get merged with the above post I made; however, it's a completely different topic. The Laura Simmons storyline is missing the FREAKING RESOLUTION!! (I'm laughing at myself at my frustration.) I sat through that entire crap storyline and can't even see her freakin' downfall. The scab writers didn't let up on it. Every. Single. Day. has been nothing but Laura Simmons, Laura Simmons, Laura Simmons. The episodes go right up to her tricking Bob into leaving Hal & Barbara's wedding and when he gets home, she is wearing a nightie (I hope it's not supposed to be Kim's nightie that she ripped to shreds) and holding the letter opener, demanding he say that he loves her. The following episode (May 24th) is not online that I could find. May 25th begins with John recapping what happened to Susan. Fortunately for me, some lovely person on this board posted a link to a tumblr page that has the recaps out of SOD. I was able to pause today's episode and read that to catch myself up. I'm also so thankful for all the people who have collected all of these episodes and have shared them for free with other fans. I'm incredibly appreciative...but I still wanted to see that psycho bitch get what was coming to her.
  13. @DramatistDreamer Ha! I wouldn't have even thought of that. Being a performer myself, my first instinct is that I should support the performer. If I could only get rid of the instinct, I'd see fewer mediocre/plain ol' bad performances.
  14. @Efulton Thanks for the info! That's definitely interesting to hear. Joanna Going went on to Dark Shadows almost immediately so I always assumed it had been her decision to leave but didn't have it confirmed and didn't want to make any assumptions.
  15. Yes - Lisa at the end...it was clear they either didn't know what to do with her or her contract was up and either she was leaving or they knew they wanted to get rid of her. I agree it was super strange timing for her to leave just as Felicia was celebrating the big 4-0. And then, just to have some sort of storyline with which to break away from the 40th birthday/Jason murder, they has some weird Lisa-might-randomly-hook-up-with-Matt-before-leaving-town thing. Re-watching it as an adult I was just all ????????
  16. I saw it and have considered attending. It would be a hoot to see Eileen and Ilene in such an intimate venue; however, I'm afraid that hearing them sing at this point might not be one of the highlights of my life.
  17. Lau was the reason I started watching AW. I had watched AMC since around 5 or 6 years old (Grandma would pick me up from school and I'd be at her house until the late afternoon) and had a major crush on Greg/Lau. So when I discovered he was on AW, I started watching that, too. He'll always be my favorite Jamie because he was my first. I never really warmed to Todd although I got used to him over time. Lau may have put on some weight when he was Jamie but he was still sexy as hell! I was a super big Lisa/Jamie fan and didn't like how they storyline played out as a kid. As an adult, I can see that with Jamie falling for all of Vicky's machinations, Lisa was better off getting the hell out of Bay City!!
  18. I enjoyed Deakins in the role. MB will always be Lily for me but, from the little I've seen of LD, she seems to be a perfectly fine actress. Her Lily is a little different but it's a younger version of the character. I'm just glad she left so MB could take over!
  19. I watched part of this last night. The Iris/Vivian playing backgammon.....LOVED seeing Vivian though when she was younger! I'm going to have to watch more of this time. That was the first time I had ever seen Bev McKinsey as Iris - I won't make a judgement off of those couple of scenes that I watched. Some of this leads into Texas, I believe? I know some of the beginning of that is available as well. I should wait until I'm well and good in the mood for this time period and just get sucked into it all.
  20. I so wish I had Retro TV!! (For both that and Doctor Who) Yeah - I know SB at least did The Facts of Life (he ended up marrying Jo) for it's final season 1987-1988 while he was off ATWT for this time. I don't know if he's BACK back or just back to tie up his storyline or something. I'm A) trying not to spoil myself and B just enjoying that he's back! Interesting to hear about Finn and Gabourey!!
  21. HAHA - @DramatistDreamer I can see what you mean re: Craig and Sierra. I'm assuming they recast and she comes back but I could be wrong about that. I'm sure the original actress doesn't return because Craig keeps calling her in Montega and we never even hear her voice. Re: the Daytime Emmys....the hey day of soaps is long forgotten. They've moved on to their current form and yes, they like to forget that soaps used to be something else. Does anyone other than ardent soap fans mention Search for Tomorrow? Or Love of Life? Adding on to say to make it clear that I totally agree with you. It *is* sad that they hey day of soaps is forgotten and is not recognized. But that's clearly the case and it won't ever change. Soaps have moved on. I didn't go with them. And I'm so thankful that so many fans kept and collected as much as they could and have put them on the internet so that we can all relive or check out new shows and see a good representation of what they were.
  22. Love the photo of Liz and Martha together - they're quite a pair! I have so come around to Scott Bryce as Craig. (Hunt Block was my first Craig and I shall always love him) Having SB back after having been gone for a year is just so heartwarming - it's nuts. Seeing him at Hal & Bab's engagement party and all of the Oakdale ladies flocking around him to welcome him back to the community, The Snyders had a giant breakfast feast for him along with Lucy and Dusty and John and Lucinda. Seeing everyone at the farm and seeing Craig and Iva together catching up on what he missed during the year - they'll always be "the couple that got away" for me. He should absolutely be with Sierra - they're one of those couples - but the way that Iva and Craig look at each other....you can see the love there that is turning into a lovely friendship. And having all of that to take away from the Laura Simmons nonsense - it's so welcome!
  23. Thanks to @victoria foxton and @DRW50 for your thoughts and @DRW50 for the link to the 90 min episode - will watch it just as soon as I have the opportunity! Very curious to see a soap do a 90 min format.
  24. Another World scholars, please advise: I see that there is quite a bit of '79/'80/'81 of Another World on the internet. Is this a period that is worth my checking out? Right now I'm watching the late 80's and, although I've read all of the Soaps and Serials novelizations, and therefore have a good idea of the show during the 60's/70's, I don't know much about this period. If it is considered a decent time of the show, and anyone has any recommendations as to where I should try to jump in (if at all) , I would appreciate any suggestions. I'm really missing Mac now that he has passed and would love to see some of his older material. Thanks!
