  1. If he was setting the tone and winning he wouldn't be angrily tweeting every morning at 4 AM, hiding from the press and the WHCD, and sinking below 38% rapidly. This is done to bait him and drive him mad, because it is extremely easy to do so. Countless articles from leaks inside prove this. He is infuriated. But he must be responded to, not ignored.
  2. I'm glad for votes that cross the aisle. But I don't necessarily think ex-Republican voters are the voice of the soul of the Democratic Party anymore than all Sanders voters are. To me, I would've been happy with either man but the fact is Perez is a solid choice, and there's not much ideological daylight between him and Ellison for anyone who isn't simply interested in refighting a proxy war over Sanders and Clinton. As for the Perez commentary on Trump, a friend of mine today - a fairly politically disengaged Latino Democratic voter - saw the news about the vote and was encouraged by the news, and loved what he had to say. So take that anecdote however anyone will, or not.

Eh, Donna was always only there for a year, so I'm willing to give Bill the same consideration.

  5. Cress Williams (formerly D'Shawn of the original 90210, also known for Fox's Living Single) is the last guy I expected to get cast as the CW's Black Lightning, a DC Comics superhero.
  6. Huh: Cress Williams (D'Shawn Hardell) is the CW's new Black Lightning.
  7. I think the story was a total mess from what I've seen of just the last two months. I think the ending episode worked for me.
  8. I am very pleased with the DNC results but would've been happy for either man. They're both good. Meanwhile, yes, some forums I've seen are melting down with younger folks insisting "the passion" was not there for Perez. When challenged as to how passion or millennial support online translates to votes they calm down and listen, at least. They'll get over it. Eventually.
  9. I really can't stand Bill Maher atm, but what Darrell Issa says here re: Sessions is a big deal - the dam is breaking for the GOP, much sooner than Nixon.
  10. I don't see it as that. I felt Lee was going off to get the help he needed on his own terms, away from a situation he felt was bad for him. I do think they vilified and emasculated him too much during the run-up to his exit, but I don't think they made him leave the same way. He made a choice to get better and do it on his own terms, and he said he felt better away from Walford when he could make a fresh start. While I would've liked to see a bit more focus on making it clear he was getting proper care, I don't think they sent him off not knowing what to do or thinking he was going to fix it all overnight. It was clear he knew he needed help. That said, yes, Beanbag was a cock.
  11. Catching up a bit but still behind - I was actually impressed with how they mopped up a lot of the mixed messaging EE so usually gives about mental illness and male weakness/depression in Lee's exit. It doesn't forgive a longstanding systemic issue the show has with conventional masculinity, but I did appreciate how they had Mick come to understand Lee's issues and be loving towards him. It was a lot more than I'd come to hope for at this point. I thought all the actors did very well, especially Danny-Boy(?) Hatchard and Danny Dyer. EE's various attempts at art and metaphor don't always work these days, but at least they give artistry a go unlike the American soaps, and the whole bit with the fox in the bins vis a vis Mick and Lee actually worked for me. There seemed to be a lot of story/character clean-up going on, actually. For one of the first times I felt a bit of the old Michelle in Jenna Russell when she told Preston in no uncertain terms that she'd made a terrible mistake and he had to go. She was forthright, she wasn't wibbling or weeping or moaning, and it worked. The guy playing him is quite cute, but I don't have too much interest in anything with him and Bex that is going to drag Michelle further through the mud. If they want to make a go of it with this recast the best thing to do is put as many miles between this and her as possible, and keep pushing Michelle forward with more confidence. Also cleaned up: I was pleased with Kim telling Denise straight-out that she supported and loved her. It was a bit too tossed-off before. There are so many little comedy vignette bits in EE that can sometimes reduces characters to sketches (Ian, etc. as mentioned above) and some work and some are cheap, but I was pleased with what they did there. I also quite like sour old Shirley with the Polish fellow. But I wish Kathy had a big story.
  12. You and I have gotten very different impressions from the last five weeks. People have been pushing back hard and this administration keeps crumbling under the pressure, starting with the travel ban disaster. You're right, it's not the '70s. It's also not 2004.
  13. Bigger and bigger.
  14. Now trending:
  15. I think it was Boehner who came out and said so.
  16. GOP reps fear they no longer have the votes or spine to repeal Obamacare following town halls.
  17. NYT, Politico, LA Times and CNN all blocked. In response, the Associated Press and Time walked out of the briefing.
  18. They don't, but others do. And his numbers are dropping and taking the GOP with them. Great original comment
  19. Yeah, I also posted that, IIRC. Or maybe I forgot. But it always bears repeating. And yes, it is getting bigger. Trump's ratings are falling under 40% and the GOP is taking notice.
  20. Wow:
