  1. Laurie Holden (Andrea) is recurring on The Americans as Noah Emmerich's mysterious new girlfriend.
  2. I didn't notice this at first - at the diner in the second hour of the premiere, the Bad Dale/doppelganger is eating creamed corn (garmonbozia). Later, in episode 3, when Coop escapes the underworld, the Bad Dale vomits up both creamed corn and black oil.
  3. I was hoping that as well - that Chen evidently wrote the letter before or during filming, so who knows. But I doubt she's in it.
  4. Joan Chen writes a letter as "Josie" to Lynch asking to come out of the doorknob. Chen isn't hurting for work so it seems like just a fun lark for her.
  5. I love that sequence, though I do prefer the long ominous build-up which is right out of the Missing Pieces, Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway. But the effects are kind of vintage Lynch - he loves janky CGI and weird effects, he doesn't so much care for realism. Lynch has talked about that scene several times. He intended to use it as the way to get Cooper out in future unmade sequels, by having Laura save him in a way. I suspect that scene may still come up in the new show.
  6. I'm pretty sure they're talking about Best theory I've heard about Audrey, which may or may not be nonsense, is that she is the billionaire who funded the Black Lodge box experiment in New York (to look for Cooper).
  7. Lynch and Frost have said this show is a closed event and has a definite ending. But they've also suggested they could do more depending on the muse or interest. I think it's possible but may depend on a few factors. Joe Adalian at Vulture breaks down the numbers. Low same-day, good streaming/subscriptions. He also reiterates what I've heard from the beginning, two or three years ago from people at the network - that Showtime is more interested in the prestige and buzz here to take them to an HBO level than they are the actual ratings. They knew it would be weird and not for everyone. Based on that, it's possible they could want a second helping (if Lynch is willing). FX also seems to enjoy losing money on critical darlings like the low-rated Americans, which I applaud them for sticking by.
  8. The debut had low live numbers but very high streaming numbers - broke the box on new subscriptions. I expect another major drop in future weeks after the very strange premiere, but Lynch doesn't care about that and I'm not sure Showtime will either. I think they're in this for the prestige to compete with HBO - or so I was told a year or two ago - and I think it'll keep that. Whether or not they (or Lynch) will commit to another season, if Lynch wants one, is an open question. But I know this story is designed to be closed-ended as well, to not have to go on. If it doesn't that's fine.
  9. TP breaks Showtime sign-up records. Currently at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, to my surprise.
  10. For anyone wanting to relive (or see) the magical ending of the two-hour premiere. Love Chromatics, and I love James here:
  11. Alan Sepinwall surprisingly bends the knee and admits he loved it. SPOILERS aplenty.
  12. Yeah, I linked it up top. The new show is dividing even hardcore fans. I love it, but I'm all in with most things Lynch. You have to be when there's an extended sequence in a casino of a shellshocked, near-catatonic Cooper getting jackpots at slot machines while guided by floating, flaming Black Lodge portals done up in (deliberately) wacky CGI. From the final sequence in the Roadhouse with Shelly, James and co. in episode 2, the incredible music of Chromatics:
  13. That was either in the chamber where Cooper escaped. What a world! Same actress, though not credited as Ronette.
  14. I'm taking a few hours to read fan reactions and talk to people before doing the other two. I'll be rewatching these all week. And yeah, the bit about James was satisfying - and I think a defiant stance by Lynch/Frost to fans who pick him as an easy target. James takes a lot of abuse for Marshall's, uh, raw performance and some lousy story turns, but I liked him in FWWM and when Lynch and the show used him well. Liked him here too. I am very curious to see what's become of that lonely boy years later. I also suspect the cute Brit with him (Jake Wardle, playing Freddie Sykes) may be intended for Shelly's daughter Becky
  15. No, Showtime is behind it. That BI is on a show on ABC - some overpriced Romeo and Juliet sequel series shot in Europe which Shonda Rhimes backed. Ausiello says he hates S2 and FWWM, so I've written him off. Todd VanDerWerff raves on Vox.
  16. Some of the first reviews: NYT's is decent if guarded, but waffles on calling it good enough yet. It's also wrong on one story point: James is Michael Ausiello hates it and is very upset. THR admits it is impossible to review. Deadline says Lynch has schooled TV again.
  17. Holy shït. Twin Peaks is still way, way ahead of anything else on television. Eat that, Leftovers.
  18. Price Peterson from Yahoo reviews the new show (spoiler-free, after a few light things were scrubbed from the earlier version of the piece) - he digs it. Mashable on the premiere.
