  1. Yeah, I have zero patience for the male rape hot takes that may come out of this episode. I can't see Lynch turning Diane/Laura Dern into a villainess. There has to be more at work. Her reaction was too real.
  2. I really could give a fùck about some people's Gay Albert fanfic. I like Albert and Constance. I think what Lynch presents of the men in this episode is that most of the 'bad' ones are weak or buffoons. The Mitchums are undone and flustered by Candie at every turn; they're like big kids. Ben gives in to temptation with Beverly because Sylvia emasculates him. Steven is a wreck. I think the material reflects far worse on those men. Even Carl is too weak in the face of evil to act, because what pervades the town is too strong for him to always stand against. His inaction in the face of horror is commonplace in America. The Hornes scene was really unsettling, but they kept juxtaposing horror and comedy really well for me. I could've watched an hour of just Candie and the Mitchums. That was a hoot. And I loved Janey-E. I don't think she will die, but I do think Cooper will leave to face Twin Peaks and his double (and hopefully go back to her). The shot of Laura was from FWWM, when Laura shows up at Donna's door after running into BOB in her bedroom. Really hope Diane is not the black hat she appears, because I think that scene with her and the Bad Dale in part 7 is a standout in its original context. I'm not sure what is going on there.
  3. Everything with Naomi Watts, Amy Shiels (Candie the showgirl) and the Mitchum brothers in this episode is hilarious.

  7. I'm gonna be watching it back to back with Twin Peaks (TP comes first). That's gonna be one wild double feature.

This is about the only thing Chris Chibnall could've done to rouse my interest in his regime. (I need to watch the new series, which I hear was quite good, but I've been busy with other stuff and frankly am not ready to say goodbye to Capaldi or Moffat just yet.) Jodie Whittaker was fantastic on the first season of Chibnall's Broadchurch which I watched - a standout on a show that was quite good but not amazing, which the cast made really good and she was near the top of the list. I haven't yet watched the other two series which I've heard were of very variable quality. I like her, I'm not sure she's the woman I'd have thought of for the Doctor. But I'm open to it because she's very talented and why not? It's time. I just hope Chibnall and his team can live up to the talent and the show's legacy.
  9. The viral site Commercials I Hate! - or rather, its forum which is somehow connected to the show and broadcasts a new quote from the next episode each week hidden on the main page or in the source code - has this one for tomorrow, and it's spoilerish: You can find it at the very bottom of the main forum page, hidden in white text on white when you highlight.
  10. Here's a longer account. AMC is obviously trying to paint Darabont as a tyrant, and there's no denying he can be and was demanding and crude. But his behavior is also not that uncommon for TV showrunners, and AMC had been nickel and diming the show from Day 1. Darabont was also not the last showrunner to enter into conflict with Robert Kirkman. I think TWD only improved post-Darabont and that is his run is often overrated, but I also think denying his immense contribution to its foundation is unfair. Even more from Variety. Woo! Yeah, 'burning down their homes' is a bit much.
  11. Since Hudson Mohawke's new track hasn't been released yet, here's all there is of it from the Roadhouse: Also:
  12. Part 9 was the show's highest rated since the premiere. Meanwhile there's this, which is what really matters to Showtime vs. overnight live/linear ratings: The rest of the article then veers into editorializing about how the fact that GOT will crush TP in overnight numbers heralds the death of good TV, but I don't really buy that. There is zero doubt GOT will overtake TP numbers-wise, but TP is not trying to compete with it. It's doing its own thing and apparently surprisingly well on streaming and even (for a time, anyway) linear numbers. So that's something.
  13. ^^ I wear shorts in this heat and this is a personal attack. (also I am not 38)
