  1. Happy Halloween! Meanwhile, somehow not an Onion headline:
  2. I mean, I agree their new corporate overlords are scum. But I also think much of the Gawker Media site folks bought and paid for this ongoing slow motion destruction by playing the cool kids, livetweeting their tantrums over Hogan‘s sex tape, or whether they can or can’t out professional competitors at Conde Nast with no public profile, and still acting like they’re doing it all out of some great spirit of revolution and speaking truth to power. I remember their lowlights; it was scummy shít. Whenever they got in hot water they'd default to “lol we’re just bloggers, don’t hold us to any standards”. And then whenever they couldn't do as they pleased, they’d throw tantrums in posts or liveblog on twitter and whine and demand to be taken seriously as journalists again. Big surprise the creeps from Wall Street or wherever don’t respond to passive aggressive protest posts that were able to cow overindulgent daddy figure and former owner Nick Denton. This new mythology about Gawker actually being journalistic crusaders is their own revisionism, including at the satellite sites, some of whom have good journalists but it’s not exactly John Reed in the Russian Revolution. There’s also a lot of incestuous bullshit re: what they sometimes cover, especially at Kotaku and io9. They got high on their own supply and stayed there, and now they’re still trying to operate like they’re Nick Denton’s overindulged children. Tweeting through it will not save the company. Foolish choices killed it. Some of them have done good work there at those sites, and elsewhere. They should go do that. Meanwhile:
  3. Oh lord. Franco is not a hill to die on. Simon should know better.
  4. Will we be having context with our post today, John?
  5. I think there may have been several attempts/plans to introduce Lucy and Scott/Kevin's kids. I think some of the story claims may have had a ring of truth. I think both Anna Donely (played by Courtney Halverson for a day or two in 2013) and possibly a daughter for Stefan and Katherine were on the books to become regulars - Ron had Nikolas, Obrecht and Helena referencing them regularly in 2013, and we know Stephen Nichols turned down a return that year, likely to play the recurring spoiler to Luke and Laura without a contract, as that has long been FV's approach to vet story. But I think there was also a ton of bullshit thrown around in that period by one overinvested Kevin/Lucy fan spinning out fiction from rumors. And I never bought they'd introduce a Cassadine named "Kailey".
  6. Supposedly it was Christina Scott was going to hit, and Kin flatly refused. But there was so much fanfic horseshit floating around about casting the Collins/Baldwin kids and giving Lucy, etc. story back then from certain parties, I have no idea how much was real.
  7. I do think Dennehy's Blake was very reminiscent of Glenn in Fatal Attraction from what I've seen, in terms of sleek style, mood, etc. She could be imperious, cold, very tough yet complex. I prefer SS but I found both far more interesting and formidable than Liz Keifer.
  8. Not my tweet, but still one of my favorite Lynch stories from the TP press tour in 2017:
  9. Stop copying my posts from 15 years ago! But yes, oof, Keifer, no. I had a rant not long ago about how if GL was ever reinvented for digital (and it is a classy old property CBS All Access could leverage to their hausfrau base) I'd beg Sherry Stringfield to come back. Even Elizabeth Dennehy, who I only knew from Star Trek TNG, was more arch, cool and mysterious. Keifer is a soccer mom by comparison.
  10. #LockHimUp is still trending, as are two other hashtags for dragging Mika and Joe. Also Nate Silver, for this:
  11. Season 2 was a massive improvement.
  12. Oh God.
  13. I have my share of issues with AOC, but she crucified the Zuck today. The Office stare at the end of the second clip is gold. Meanwhile:
  14. Finally caught up! Darlene's treatment of Harris and her stoner friend was again pure Roseanne - she parents like her mom more all the time. Loved David back at the family table. Johnny Galecki really does slot right back in. Louise still fits very well each week, and that's helped by continuing the constant recurring presence of side characters like Chuck, Bev, Crystal, etc. to fill out the familiar canvas. The original show lost sight of that later on but the revival never has. Loved Becky bantering with Dan and Louise, and her later heart to heart with Dan. Jackie continuing her relentless trolling of Darlene over the love triangle, laughing and driving away was brilliant. I also enjoy her continual lust for Ben. That therapy scene was unexpectedly deep, especially the flashback and when David said "I don't think you've heard me since I was fifteen." Sara Gilbert brought it as usual. I do hope Ben hangs around, but I'm torn on whether he should reunite with Darlene or get with Jackie tbqh.
