Netflix: Stranger Things
This was pretty obvious for several years. Watching Noah try to pass himself off as str8 IRL was mortifying, but I always thought he didn't know yet and would just figure himself out over time. Either way, good for him.

This whole hysterical exercise is also important in that it forces/shames the Beltway into reporting more thoroughly, if not entirely honestly, on the dysfunction of the GOP. In so much lazy 'both sides' reporting there is still often a preexisting right-leaning frame of 'the disorganized, messy libs' vs. the 'savvy, principled mature conservatives' the Beltway loves to believe are somehow still deep inside the core of the Republican Party. There is also a masculine, sports-oriented predisposition to the 'savvy' displayed by men like McConnell or Boehner and a disinterest in the content of their conduct or votes. This mess dismantles all of that in the eyes of the public, not forever but at least for the duration of this farce. There is no place the Beltway media outlets can take this story that does not make the GOP look ridiculous. Period.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
How is Dante still having the 'how can I be a cop and love Sonny' conversation in the year of our Lord 2023? How many times have we had this talk? Can this character not evolve to some sort of equilibrium that makes sense either on one side of the line or the other, or decide (as I believe he did by the end of Guza's run) that he will work with Sonny on some things because of the devil you know but keep a careful eye? How long is this going to go on? Dante and Sam are basically C-listers now and I never thought that would happen. Poor DZ. And Kelly finally looks old.- The Politics Thread
This is even funnier than I expected in November. And I expected it to go badly for McCarthy.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread

He can still get it! Speaking of OLTL, I don't think anyone has found a recent pic of Ellen Bethea since Obama was sworn in. And believe me, I've looked.- GENERAL HOSPITAL: December 2022 and Year End Stats

There have been credible rumors of Carole Ann Ford and/or Susan appearing next year for awhile. I hope this is a true hint.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
I think it's more a recent, 2000s-2010s, etc. latter-day issue that we have paternity/maternity stories that seem anemic, pointless and endless. There's nothing wrong with a baby story or a WTP story in theory, they are classic soap staples. But it's when everyone has one of them over and over, or multiple pregnancies for young vibrant men or women, or when the 'who is my secret child/parent' for adult kids stories go on forever with minimal interest like this that it screams what it's rumored to be: One of the only permissible storylines at network soaps, cowed today by what they believe to be a largely older-skewing, conservative white audience in an age of more moral puritanism, where they are straining to hold on to what they believe to be their only shrinking loyal audience.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
I have never cared about either of their bloodlines and still don't. Longtime fans do not need a child taken away from Taggert for Curtis the Epcot Center Greeter. And it's honestly a C-level storyline no one has interest in for older adult Black characters the show has no frontburner investment in. Willow is a complete nonentity to me, in addition to my never, ever caring about Nina's secret child since they began hinting about it before Michelle Stafford even appeared onscreen (and I suspect back then that the plan was for Kristen Alderson's Kiki to turn out to be hers). I am convinced GH only does these boring parental stories for the same reason current soaps (and GH especially) allegedly do so many baby stories: They are among the only 'safe' middle America material that the network will easily greenlight, and they fill airtime. They're cruising.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread

As egregious and bizarre as I think Heather and Ryan Chamberlain mating and having a twentysomething child is, I thought they said Heather was on the run or released when she met Ryan in the wilderness and they had an affair. I can buy that even if the age issue with Heather being her biological mother is frankly sketchy at best (and two giant psychos having a psycho kid is just dumb IMO). The Dominique/Mac thing just does not make sense and is an insult to people's intelligence. IIRC the recast gap was not nearly long enough. But they don't give a shít.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread

Aidan, like a lot of other players in that era, lasted because he was hot, white and male/able to be serviceable as a utility stud in any number of C-stories. They probably wanted him for his Q rating or something from focus groups, I think Aiden Turner came from some saucy ads or a British soap or something Frons liked, and then they fed him to literally every third or fourth-tier female player that came in for almost a decade. It was bizarre.- The Politics Thread

I honestly have no recollection if the rumor was it was a flashback or she would turn up alive. I just recall there was some major soap star rumored to be playing her that may have hit the mags, I think it was someone from P&G or Sony/NBC and IIRC someone brought it back up a couple years ago.- The Politics Thread

I seem to recall a rumor around the time that they had recast an undead/flashback? Althea Chandler for the storyline with some sort of major soap star - I don't remember exactly who, I think it's been bandied about on this forum before. I believe it was true bc I think it made the mags and there was a specific name mentioned, but I was not the one who knew about it back then. Obviously that was scuttled if true.- GH: Classic Thread

Oh, let me be clear: I would not be fine with Skye staying a Quartermaine lol. Darn can attest that I have been heated over it since 2001. I was over the moon when Guza undid it and I despised RC and JFP forcing the familiarity with the Quartermaines overnight. I don't mind her mixing it up with them as an independent character, though. What I would've been fine with was the pairing with Ned, but it amounted to nothing. BITD they would've fucked like minks and screwed everyone over at ELQ, but by the time they got together Ned and the Qs were C-list players. The Luke thing was clearly Jill's last desperate Hail Mary to make Skye relevant on the show when they were casting about for a new story for Luke. It is obvious she said 'what about Skye?' and Guza (who had major control of the show) just shrugged and allowed it for a little bit. Until Tracy came back. The Rae ABC crossover voyage where everyone from twentysomethings Sophia, Eve Lambert, Kelly, etc. to 40+ yo Max Holden were floated as her kid was among the most embarrassing things I've ever watched. Meanwhile, ABC fans were expected to follow aging Another World star Linda Dano from show to show. Come on. It was JFP's vanity.- GH: Classic Thread
If nothing else, Skye can make a good troublemaker to come in and out or with her daughter, who does have fertile ties (the Alcazars, the Q relationship). With, say, Lila Rae it's not dissimilar to how they basically adopted Brenda. But I would not highlight Skye actually 'being' a Quartermaine ever again. I would have her go back to Chandler in the wake of Adam's death for semi-cynical reasons, always capitalizing on her latest 'family legacy.' - The Politics Thread
