ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I am a huge Ari Aster fan, so this is a big one for me.

Oh lord. I had no particular issue with Katie Porter (whose record I am not super-familiar with) until that Turner endorsement. I guess we'll see.

RIP: In Memoriam Thread
My personal feelings about his contribution to the media ecosystem, I'm not going to cheer on anyone's tragic or untimely death - especially, apparently, to depression. All the best to his loved ones.

I think a lot of those rumors were made up by a Kevin and/or Lucy stan at the time, but I think some of them had a basis in truth re: RC/FV plans. Regardless, yes, I definitely have a lot of ideas of how you could use Christina and Serena today. Though I would make Christina a somewhat spiky and provocative writer, not a doctor. (And Gina Tognoni would be playing Dr. Sarah Webber with a ready-made husband and children as part of an experiment la the UK soaps, introducing a family all at once which you could then dismantle, but that's a topic I've well-trod before.) Anyway, the show is what it is: Boring as hell, full of played out characters.

She exists. Kevin and Lucy have referenced her. The Port Charles connection is complicated and I think the point of that very confusing and muddled story was to suggest that the magic ring from PC had made people forget a lot about those characters and that world. I don't think anything suggests Christina does not still exist or is not recalled though. And Karen is still dead. So characters who directly overlap with core characters and are relevant to their GH continuity have been retained IMO. It's only characters like Livvie, etc. who have either been wiped from existence or forgotten due to the spell. So Serena and Christina are still in play.

Willow and Sasha are two indistinguishable white chicks to me. Willow can simply die of her cancer or more mob shenanigans to drive the point home about the mob problem, and sadsack Michael needs a long break from the canvas, same as Maxie. Sasha can vanish in the ladies' room like Beth Ehlers on AMC.

Trademarks of Different Creators/EPs/Writers
Scott and Becca definitely were. The last iterations, which Agnes was allegedly involved in, could be considered Pete and Celia and A.J. and Miranda at AMC 2.0. (Though AMC had apparently planned to subvert it according to Eric Nelsen by having A.J. come out as gay.) I think Cooper and Steffi on LOV can also be classed as one of Agnes' young love couples with Cooper as the well-meaning poor little rich boy like A.J., though I am pretty sure she had nothing to do with Cooper and Hannah who also fit the mold.

Speculation abounds: I've heard another theory though: That he is the son of Harold and Lucy Saxon.

Doctor Who
In honor of this rumor, it's time (not the first and probably not the last time) to repost this from either 2016 or 2017, when Capaldi surprised children at the Doctor Who Experience and took questions in character apparently entirely improvised. One of them, at 2:30, led to him bringing up Susan.

Doctor Who
As others have noted, the growing rumors about Susan (which have been circulating for a year or so) would also dovetail with the possible restoration and colorization of classic eps like An Unearthly Child - if they broadcast the first story during the anniversary month, it would cue the general audience up to be acquainted with Susan and Carole Ann Ford.

I don't think they would go so hard at Jason and Carly - a forbidden pairing for years - without some sort of reason, I don't think it was just a feint. But I also don't think Jason/Britt was. It seemed like they switched gears multiple times. I do agree they very very quickly cut all bait on Jason/Sam after years of keeping them inseparable and there had to be a reason.

General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
I don't know about that. They seemed to almost totally drop Britt and Jason very abruptly until Sonny came back and they were going full tilt with the idea that Jason and Carly were falling back in love (very very quickly). Then he swung back to Britt for a couple weeks. In other news: Lord, apparently a dude from Jamey's show Ambitions was on last week!

He quit the first time, IIRC; Frank just didn't beg him to stay because he was exerting his power. I think he thought Steve would come around in a few months and become part of the classic Frank/Ron in-and-out players like they'd begun doing with people in stints at OLTL and then GH, and that they could keep teasing Jason a la Robin, or Victor II's fake death on OLTL until he came back on contract. But Steve has a huge ego and immediately jumped to JFP's Y&R. I don't know that I believe Steve was ever disempowered til COVID got him fired. You could be right about him trying to leverage his antivaxx stance, but it doesn't explain why they jumped from Britt to Carly (or then immediately dropped that, unless it was because they knew Steve was being fired).

I don't think Kelly's ever had that kind of power. That's why she was notably pissed BTS when Billy Miller was unseated and then let go. If she could dictate her pairing she'd have stayed with Drew, who she had more chemistry with. Steve OTOH had historically resisted any attempt to re-pair Jason and Carly since the late '90s, and he had the power to do so. So going back there in '21 was a huge shock. I have to assume things got very bad between both of them somehow in the last couple years. I think having him very swiftly bang and fall for Britt - when it was deeply OOC for Jason to move so fast, let alone then bounce to Carly - was the result of some sort of very hasty decisions. I wish we knew more.

Thiebaud has never been very interesting to me no matter how much they've tried for years to dress Britt up as queen bitch of the universe and push the astroturfed friendship with Brad. Like I said before, in pushing Britt they traded on a gay sensibility without bothering with any actual major LGBT content. When she got her first shot at earnest romantic material in the mid-2010s, with Nikolas, she sucked at playing the heroine - it was all vague looks and a lot of whining. She had a little heat with Steve Burton when he was way past it but she was never going to work in the big leagues IMO because I feel she's a very limited performer beyond bitchy lines. Plus, whatever the hell happened BTS with the show swiftly pivoting away from Jason/Sam after years of refusing to back down and forcing them on the audience - shoving Sam and Dante together and spinning Jason towards both B/C-player Britt and then Carly in record time in the same year, when Jason has almost never had any kind of quickie romance since the accident - still fascinates me. It was a very strange time.

This piece is newsworthy, I think, because it gets very candid about Maggie Haberman despite getting an interview with her. It rides the line and listens to her side but in the end, I think, has a very brutal analysis of her view from nowhere. Archived non-paywall version here.- Knots Landing
Which may be why I've often seen praise of them utilizing her again posthumously in a story in the final season - though opinions may vary on that story. I imagine there's a lot you could unearth about Laura's very curious family life (which she's alluded to in a variety of ways over the years, I believe alone with her widower father or something) via stories with her children. I don't think she's completely unknowable, I think I understand a lot about her. But certain parts of Laura, like her past or her one night stands during the dog days with Richard back around Season 1, she keeps to herself or controls access to rigidly, not unlike Sumner this season and with his incredible, manic monologue to Laura as he reveals Galveston is his father in the ep I just watched (and will discuss shortly) - and then, to control the situation after he's exposed so much of himself, grabs her and pulls her into a kiss and rough sex. One of the best scenes on the show.- Doctor Who
And now: And now for something completely different:- Doctor Who
Kate Stewart is definitely back: There has been a rumor that Ruth Madeley's character in the specials (who had PR material released recently) so I wonder if Kate appearing has any linkage. - The Politics Thread
