Loving/The City Discussion Thread
I've seen various clips but am unable to exactly piece together the whole story of Susan Keith's Shana. I do know she was a lawyer and one of her husbands was a former priest. I take it that she was off the canvas before the murders began and the show morphed into The City. Did she ever have children? Can anyone fill in the blanks for me? Thanks.

Thank you, Carl, I had not seen that article before. Anne did find the perfect guy - George Solomon - and married him in 1981. They are still happily married today, and their only child, a son named Tom, is a doctor. George and I first became acquainted on Twitter several years ago, and then FB. He is a very kind, funny and sweet man who plays ukulele and is devoted to his family. The Solomons were very close friends with Paul Michael Glaser (who also had soap experience before hitting big with Starsky & Hutch) and his wife, Elizabeth. The Solomons' son Tommy was in the same class with the Glasers' son Jake. George told me that Tom was inspired to become a doctor largely because of the Glasers' brave face in the struggle against AIDS, and that Tom and Jake are still friends to this day. I also have Annie's autograph and I can email you the images so you can post them here. Thanks again!!

Peter Burnell DID look younger than his years. We're heading into the April 1969 episodes, which would have made him 27 IRL then (Mike was said to be 22). Yet he had such an old soul way about him. I'm so sorry his life ended so tragically. I hope that he would be happy to know that a new generation is now watching and admiring his work.

So sad that neither of them are with us anymore, along with most of the cast of that time. (Nancy Donohue passed away in early 2001 at the age of 63, and later that year both Sally Gracie and Gerald Gordon passed on.)

Those of you who have Cozi TV on your cable systems may want to set the DVR for Tuesday, May 26th. The Knight Rider episode entitled "Brother's Keeper" will air (originally aired 10/9/1983), and the guest star - in a very meaty role - was Gerald Gordon. It's actually double the pleasure for soap fans of that era because Catherine Mary Stewart (Kayla Brady #1 on DAYS) plays his daughter.

Todd McKee isn't even acting anymore. He now works as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch: https://www.ml.com/MLWM/System/ViewFAPage.aspx?pageurl=mckee&locator=2C8C74AC-04AB-4D14-95D4-50E05906016C He was kind enough to autograph a couple of photos of him as Ted for me when I wrote to him at that address. He got back to me very quickly, too, within a couple of weeks.

Had the proposed spinoff come to fruition, I wonder if any other TD characters would have jumped ship - and if so, which ones.

From what I can gather, he's cleaned up in the real estate market in recent years: http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2011/03/soap-actor-justin-torkildsen-gets-quick.html?m=1 http://losangeles.blockshopper.com/news/story/900009329-Soap_actor_s_wife_gets_1M_in_Cahuenga_Pass

Yes, and of course, her mother Frances would start her own role of a lifetime less than a year later - playing Mona Kane for nearly a quarter of a century on AMC. Ironically, Frances Heflin and Liz Hubbard both appeared on Broadway in The Physicists shortly after LH began playing Althea on TD. Sadly, Marta Heflin is yet another cast member no longer with us. She passed in September 2013 at the age of 68: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/26/arts/marta-heflin-actor-dies-at-68-waif-seen-in-altman-films.html?_r=0

I feel the exact opposite - I felt that Ted flourished away from the teen group and was given more family scenes with the Capwells, and then the big story in 1985 with Christie Duvall. (The Duvall rape story and trial in the summer of 1985 was when I think SB as a whole started to really gel. It also gave Lane Davies a plot he could sink his teeth into - and gave Mason his first true love, Mary.) But SB could have done a lot more with Ted than they ultimately did, especially in the late 80s. Todd McKee was a handsome and charismatic young man who could actually ACT...but sadly was lost in the shuffle for the majority of his run on the show.

Definitely. After Terry Kiser left, I think TPTB saw in David O'Brien (playing John's cousin Steve) another very viable potential young leading man and started writing towards that. Plus, the chemistry with Carolee was there right from the start.

Louise Sorel was already great, but she was twice as fun with Nic Coster. Lionel and Augusta could have you crying from laughter one minute and crying from sorrow the next. They were golden.

That seems most likely. There didn't seem to be much point playing out that story without Terry Kiser, so I guess they just cut their losses and concentrated on other stories.

I also wasn't crazy about Danny Andrade or the revolving door of C.C.s (though Charles Bateman wasn't bad, the role didn't really come alive until Jed Allan came in). Kelly/Joe was almost the only good thing about SB in the first couple of months until key people like Marcy Walker, Nic Coster, Kerry Sherman and Richard Eden came aboard.
