Look into the past - 1975
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but this Brooks sister triangle sounds so tedious! The one recurring theme in all the recaps I've read is no one is ever direct about their feelings and just says what they want. I know it's a soap but it drags on this way for years. There doesn't seem to be much action, just endless talking. And Chris is awfully dopey to just trust Nancy's word that it's not Ron making the calls considering all the other times she gave him the benefit of the doubt and was wrong. It's in stark contrast to the excitement of the Chancellor/Foster story, but maybe that's just my bias because those are the characters I grew up with.

Y&R April 2021 Discussion Thread
They didn't even really address the fact that Mariah and Devon used to date, did they (especially since he was in a similar situation with Hillary, being asked to be her sperm donor although I don't remember if she got pregnant by the donation or the natural way)? Or the fact that Abby was also conceived by a donor? Not that I want to revisit that one, but it is a part of the show's history and Ashley could have brought it up without all the nasty details. I also don't understand why they had to make Chance sterile at the last minute. They could have just said he made his donation just in time before he left. I think the writers like the idea of making the baby a Chancellor because Devon is Katherine's grandson, but Katherine was a Chancellor by marriage and wasn't actually related to Chance. No doubt we're set for lots of cringy dialogue about how this baby is part of the Chancellor, Abbot, and Newman lines (well no Abbott DNA really and that's not a secret anymore).

More from the Anonymous Angel. I am almost done! Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate! Playlist: Kay is Jill's mother I didn't divide these by date since all of the full episodes are available on the RR YouTube channel. I had to trim opening credits on some of these so the ones in the vault may be better. A controversial storyline but it was still interesting to watch this. January 23, 2004 clip Brittany is electrocuted July 4, 2007 clip October 22, 2003 clip Kay leaves town (70s clips) October 23, 2003 clip Matt visits Victor I also isolated and enlarged some cool clips from the end credits that are pretty rare. They were in honor of Y&R's 30th anniversary. March 1981 - Victor traps Michael Scott in the dungeon! May 29, 1992 - Victor's heart attack - I've never seen that much of the scene before. A real shame this episode has never come up in full, I'd love to see it (it's also the one where Nina gives Ryan a sportscar).

YR: Younger character recast
I guess he could be Johnny since Johnny isn't blood related to Faith although he has been raised as her cousin. Connor is related and I assume this guy is a love interest for her. He reminds me a little bit of Michael Graziadei. I can only hope he's as good of an actor. @janea4old that doesn't look like the same guy to me. That scene didn't amount to anything. It will become apparent if you watch the next episodes after that one.

It has the seeds of something interesting, but isn't this just the Montalvo storyline again? Lots of exposition telling us about history they just made up about characters we've never heard of. We're told Victor could be the murderer but then he won't be and it really won't matter who it was because nothing will come of it. I'm far more interested in how Amanda's relationship with her mom develops from this but it feels like they're rushing through her decision to take the case. The relationship matter on a soap, not these hokey mysteries.

That's cool! Speaking of which, I wonder if anyone has videos they could upload to the vault of the various B&B stars who did reality shows. I know KKL and Ronn did Dancing with the Stars Italy, Dan McVicar did Dancing on Ice Italy (and married one of the judges!) and KKL did "I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here." P.S. I'm not sure if it was you, or some other angel, but the upload of May 25, 1998 did not go through, if whoever uploaded it could try again, please

Jill was supposed to be John's young wife. Brenda Dickson and Jess Walton are 16 years younger than Jerry Douglas. Eric Braeden has 15 years on MTS, 18 years on Eileen Davidson, 19 years on Signy Coleman, 29 years on Sharon Case and 31 years on Raya Meddine. Peter Bergman is 36 years older than Courtney Hope. That's one of the biggest age gaps they've ever had.

It's such a bizarre relationship in general. The whole relationship is them sitting in the coffee shop talking about something they just did and how cool it was. They went ice skating, bought a car... oh, and once they opened the scene with lipstick on him so they must have kissed! Then she brought him a wrinkly sample shirt yesterday and he was excited, like he's not a millionaire executive....

That's how she plays it and I can't tell if it's intentional or bad acting lol. It could have worked to have him play a charming man and then slowly reveal his nature. My biggest advice to JG would be: SHOW, DON'T TELL. He spent months having characters tell us this guy was Ruthless and sooooo scary. It's lazy writing. It's supposed to give him insta-vet status so we understand that he's Victor level because we were TOLD. Why not portray some nuances and let us decide for ourselves?

I don't know if you watched them yet, but the marriage therapy scenes were infuriating... turning it around as if Rey is the one carrying baggage and is too possessive. Why didn't the therapist ever ask Sharon why she feels the need to maintain a relationship with a man who stole her baby?!

I try to keep up with the wonderful soaps of yesterday blog from @will81 which catalogues 80s soap columns, and I've seen multiple articles about Beth that are basically saying she's not as frumpy in real life as she is on the show, that they made her wear padding and baggier clothes, and she just can't wait until the day they let her wear more makeup and be her true more attractive self (and indeed, she did look fantastic later in the 80s). It's sad, not so much the storyline about Traci's weight, which was great, but that someone - either she, her publicist, or the show - felt that it was so important to make it known that she didn't really look that in real life. As for AL, I wonder if it was a combination of both things that got her let go. They needed to shoehorn Sursok somehow, AL had gained weight, the character was a brunette of similar age, and there you go. I didn't even care that they killed off Sursok, but hate that we had to lose the character of Colleen forever. What a waste. AL was really good.

In those scenes where she did her presentation to Ashland she was just so bad. Couldn't pull off either the business part or the flirting. It just looked goofy. I always thought it would play to her acting style if they wrote Victoria as developing anxiety or an eating disorder. She has kind of a nervous energy. It would work in her history of sex therapy dating back to Ryan and the more recent JT abuse stuff not to mention all the Billy BS over the years. If we're supposed to buy her as the superwoman who runs an international conglomerate, is a romantic heroine, and an involved mom, she's just not believable.

Y&R March 2021 Discussion Thread
When I watch old clips I'm constantly thinking "wow, they would never have gone with that choice today!" Remember when KSJ adlibbed that line "you're gonna wish you'd never messed with this black man" when Neil was confronting Kevin? KSJ talked about Greg Rikaart being shocked because it wasn't in the script, but they left it in and today I'm sure they would have cut it. They are so afraid now to lose any little bit of their audience to anything "controversial." They were even afraid to have Chance say the word "period" when he was talking to Abby about her not being pregnant. He literally said "aren't you on your ---" and they cut away before he said it, I was laughing so hard, like it's not 1950. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy because the show is so stale and boring that there's no new viewers coming in or old ones coming back, so they have to fight even harder to keep the little audience that's left, so they become even more afraid to do anything that might offend anyone...
