ALL: Choose Your Own Writing Staff!
I'm going to choose chaos, because I believe that I am good at managing creatives. Henry Slesar (for interwoven plotting), Harding Lemay (two-handers and mid-week slower episodes), Patrik-Ian Polk (let's get some new LGBT voices in daytime) and Bridget Dobson and her mother Doris Hursley just to watch that interaction, and inspire the rest of the writer's room.

All My Children Tribute Thread
To me, Liza was always much more like her father, Larry Colby. Buttoned up, business first, a bit repressed, and snotty. Jamie Luner's character was as if Marion had a long-lost daughter who was naughtier and more sexually aggressive.

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
In all seriousness, I don't think Jamey was fired. We all know those Tyler Perry shows film an entire season in like three days. And, he doesn't sign anyone to a contract beyond a single season. So, once that production was over, he simply went back to DAYS when they asked him. It is not unusual or remarkable.

MTV: RuPaul's Drag Race
I liked the idea of the queens ranking each other. Especially given that it replaced the stale conversations that usually occur between judging and the lip sync. But, obviously, it didn't really matter this episode, and I am confused if that will be the twist for the rest of the season. Because why wouldn't they eventually try to get rid of the good contestants, even though that would ruin the entertainment value for the audience? For example, why wouldn't get Xunami vote off Q, she's funny and has excellent sewing skills? But, I want to see what she'll do for the ball challenge.

GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
It is always odd to me when a character like Alexis is suddenly demure about kissing her boyfriend. It's like, babe, you've done it in an office and on a hospital gurney with men of very poor moral value. And, you have three adult daughters from different men. Now you're going to be careful in a relationship?

Passions Discussion Thread
The 2006 Vendatta plot "Passions Vendetta started with Whitney Russell planning on becoming a nun she was in the Convent where she is hurting her self Her half brother Chad is trying to get her to stop because he is still in love with her but Whitney will not live in a life of sin so she gets Chad to leave and she goes into the Chapel and prays when she sees a bright light and it talks to her. The voice says it’s god and it has a mission for her. The story progressed and it turned out that it was a Monk who talked to god and is sent to keep her on her mission. Her Mission is to go to Rome and in the Vatican to get a Chalice. So she and the Monk head of to Rome." Sorry, the grammar in my post might have confused that it was a story about the Pope and Whitney in a relationship. In fact, it was a story about the Pope which involved Whitney

It is ironic that if one cannot respectfully engage with others, they wind up like a Passions character, alone yelling their thoughts aloud with nobody to hear them.

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Forgive my repetition because I just had the same thought about Steve Burton on another thread about his return to GH. However, I am struck by the contrast of his age versus the stories that are written for him. When John Clarke (aka Mickey) and Bill Hayes were his age, they were being written off as too old. IRL if he was a Navy SEAL, he would retire in five years. But, we saw Harris have his first kiss with his girlfriend and buy her a pathetic gold chain for Christmas as if he was a teenager experiencing first love. At the risk of sounding ageist, it feels ridiculous.

GH: Surprise Announcement!?
I think at least 58% of Kelly Monaco's expression can be attributed to injectibles. It is ironic that Steve Burton is older than Elizabeth Taylor was when she played Helena Cassadine in 1981 and Ann Flood when Edge of Night was cancelled. Yet, they are still trying to play romantic leads rather than matriarchs and patriarchs. I just want someone like Esme to comment on how pathetic it is that these characters haven't settled down yet.

Passions Discussion Thread
The conflict between id and superego was so strong in JER that it seems like he couldn't help but project it into every script. For example, once you write a story about the Pope and a novice nun escaping an incestual relationship, maybe someone should have just suggested psychoanalysis, rather than giving him a writing contract. To me, Passions was such a tease because they constantly contrasted images of sexy shirtless men and then punished women for looking at them. It was the most juvenile depiction of sensuality for a network that just years earlier was producing much more deep explorations of women's desires on AW and HtSaM.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Whenever I see ads of that era, I think, man it must have taken forever to grow out all of those Jose Eber layers of hair! I think what surprised me the most was how much money must have spent on this project. I always thought of it as strictly a vanity project for PR. However, they hired writers and commissioned scripts, so it must have had a bit of budget for development. Even though given the realities of the upsurge in talk shows and more reality-driven entertain, coupled with the NBC affiliates wanting more time for local news programming, meant that the chances of making a DAYS spin-off seemed very slim.

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Not to step on your joke, but EJ specifically said that they were prosecuting Tate as an adult for not calling 911 right away. They can prove from his cell phone records that Tate called Brady first, and then Brady called 911. And the argument, which I am not defending, just defining, is that Holly may have had fewer side effects if she was treated with Narcan right away. It is an especially f-ed up social issues story because at the same time that they are trying to inform the audience about the use of Narcan, they are also telling Reefer Madness stories about crooked judges and prison brutality. There's not a lot of justice being served in Salem. But, an interesting fact, the DEA found that, of the fake prescription pills analyzed in 2022, six out of ten contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl. So, lesson learned, get your pills straight from the pharmacy, not the alley of your local bistro. At least, I think that is what DAYS is trying to teach us. 😕😖

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
3.8/10 I keep having to remind myself why Alex is so caught up in Tate's case. I realize it is because of Theresa, but that's a bit of a stretch. Give her some cash for a lawyer and move on. And if he hired another attorney, why didn't they ever show up? Why not consult Sloan? I was also distracted by EJ's terrible haircut. Why would a grown man be sporting a fade? WEHT quiet luxury? Although, I guess he's correct that it would be easy to prove that Tate called his father prior to calling 911. But, also how often is Tate going to have to change his clothes in one day? The highlight was the sad goodbye for Wendy. I mean, she worked at the police station for about one day, where her major task was clearing Rafe's cache, so I understand at least part of her need to move on. The Jenga reference was also a little obscure. The pacing is much more noticeable when Tripp/Wendy or Ava/Harris break up because there was barely any time to get invested in them as a couple.

Honestly, I'd be more grateful if Amber Tamblyn announced her return, but she'd probably be paid less than SB. 😠

GH: 60 Years of Stars & Storytelling
I feel like ever since Aretha Franklin introduced the clips on the 1997 Daytime Emmys against the backdrop of pop music, every soap montage has looked exactly the same. There's got to be a more unique way to pay tribute to the soaps than replaying the most predictable clips as a montage, or having actors talk about it as a training ground, or having other celebrities call it their guilty pleasure. Why not recap the most popular plots from each decade? Or demonstrate how they've adapted to contemporary events. Or go through the history of the pivotal family trees. So, rather than replaying the slaps, kisses, and bloopers, modernize things and use the history as an advantage.

GH: Surprise Announcement!?
It reeks of desperation for a soap to use the casting of a 53-year-old actor as a stunt to try to increase ratings. Can you imagine if GH hired an actor who was popular in 1965 as a PR move in 1995?

DAYS: Actor Exiting!
I was just on X (formerly twitter) and Entertainment Weekly, Daily Mail, and Dateline all had articles about Steve Burton's exit from Days. Maybe it was an opportunity to bring up his 'salacious divorce'. Or, possibly soap stories are reliable clickbait. Or, perhaps it is a slow week after holidays. But, it seems like a lot of attention, given that we knew he only signed a one-year contract.

GH: January 2024 Discussion Thread
Can someone explain the criticism of Drew today? I get that what he said to Nina was offensive. But, isn't the point that people around Drew have noticed a change in his personality since he was released from prison? It felt in-keeping with the story that Drew has become unhinged, and we are meant to be shocked by his behavior. So, I don't get this thread reaction? Is it because it was poorly acted? I'm honestly confused, but not trying to criticize anyone's reaction.

DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread
6.7/10 I like that Chanel and Johnny's scene was a little racy. If they're not going to show more skin, at least they can use grown up language on streaming. Even if the reveal of what they tried in bed was kind of a letdown. I mean, as a baker, one would expect that she's tried things with food in bed before last night. On the one hand, I can see wanting Justin to defend Tate as he was recently litigator for the town, and he knows the judges. On the other hand, Justin selling himself as a beacon for truth and justice is a bit of a stretch. I don't understand why Theresa's been in jail for two months awaiting trial, but Brady gets to walk around the police station freely? Wasn't he arrested? Does the fact that Rafe didn't believe him suddenly exonerate Brady, who made a full confession? Also, why wasn't EJ at the initial bail hearing? I also didn't get the logistics of Abe and Paulina sleeping in separate beds? Did he sleep in Chanel's room, or does Paulina have two twins like Lucy and Ricky Ricardo? Finally, wow, John looks so old when in scenes with Brady and Tate. It is a shocking contrast to when he first appeared in Salem. I know we all age, but it must suck to do it in the public eye, when our mental image of a guy from 39 years ago. As for the responses to able-ism, when an oppressed minority class expresses that they don't wish to be known by their disability status, I think we should be respectful (i.e. People dx with Autism is preferable over Autistic). The fact that we need to change our language is the least that we can do in comparison to the struggles that they face every day. Responsible modern writers should convey those ideals in fiction in order to promote that message and inform those with good intentions. Conversely, those who express provocative opinions just for engagement are sad, feeble-minded, poorly informed leeches who only deserve to be ignored. It can be difficult not to take the bait, but that is my new resolve for 2024.

DAYS: Steve & the Pawn
I recall it differently. The Pawn was a prize in a high stakes poker game in Greece that involved Victor, Stefano, and others through surrogates who played their cards. Patch/Steve was in charge of the pawn and moved it/him to Salem when Victor won the game. So, he could've had him for a time in Greece (before moving to Salem), and I assume John did something to Konstantin that began/furthered his feud with Victor. But, also, isn't SoapHub a notoriously dubious site when it comes to spoilers?
