One thing I did not expect was all the talk about Tate returning to boarding school. I thought he was expelled, but suddenly he might go back? I also appreciate that this baby switch story keeps referencing Nicole's earlier baby switch. Every time someone returns from the dead, it is as if that's never happened to most of the families in town. But, the baby switch is informed by history.

It also means that if Jessica Fallon came to Salem after college in 1980, she either would've been a 12-year-old nursing prodigy, or Marie would've had her at 15, neither of which fits the timeline. Scotty Banning was born in 1978, making Julie a grandmother at 29 years old. Notably, Eli is listed as 45 in his wiki, which means that he was born the year before Scotty, which is almost possible since David and Val broke up in 1977. But, retroactively, that means that Julie was a grandmother at 28. I guess none of the Horton actresses on DAYS are particularly vain about their age, like Eileen Fulton? Meanwhile, 60-year-old Roark Critchlow is playing 55-year-old Mike Horton.

Can anyone fill in the blanks of this memory that I have of OLTL? I have a vague recollection that when Dina Higley first took over as head writer she created a re-set around the idea of storm. I think SOD hyped up this storm that would change everyone's lives (like the usual SOD hype). And in my mind, that's when Joey returned as a priest. But, I was reading Joey's wiki and BMH appeared the year before Higley started writing. So, does anyone recall the storm? And did it have anything to do with Joey?

I was trying to do the math from Alice's perspective, not withstanding SORASed grandkids, great grandkids and great great grankids. Francis Reid was born in 1914, and was 96 when she died. However, Alice Grayson Horton was born in 1911, according to her grave site. So, let's say Alice had Tommy and Addie when she was 20 (the median age of marriage for women in 1930 was 21.3). If Tommy went to Korea at the end of the conflict in 1953, when most of the soldiers were captured, he would have been 36 when he reappeared in Salem in 1967, making Alice 54 when the series premiered, and 99 when she passed. She could've been 20 when she “popped out” Tommy and Addie. Then, she had Micky the next year at 21. Bill was born she was 29. And, she was 32 when she had Marie in 1943. Interestingly, Addie would've been 17 when she had Stephen and 18 when she had Julie (since Julie was said to be 16 in the premiere episode), and 43 when she had Hope in 1974. Which makes Marie 6 years older than Julie, and 30 years older than Hope. So, Marie was 24 when she fell for Mark/Tommy and then left Salem But, of course, the SORASing of David in 1975 screws up the whole timeline. Because he was born in 1968 on screen, he went from 7 to 18 overnight. Which means Alice was 64, and Julie was 26 with an 18-year-old son (although Susan Seaforth Hayes was 32 at the time). So, I guess we can blame Pat Falken Smith for that one.

Very good lips and he had a fan following. In fact, I was surprised to see on his IMDB that he hasn't worked in a decade. I was certain that he was fodder for a Hallmark or GAC film this holiday season.

Touché, but they did come to love and respect each other for a short period of time before Spencer moved back to Part Charles. What happened to the Wyndemere butler (I admit that I don't watch consistently enough to recall his name)?

For what's worth, today turned me into a Dante and Sam fan. It always seemed like a rebound romance between two characters who were just waiting for their true love to return. However, I like that they're working together to solve a mystery. And, I liked the attention to detail that Dante didn't take a picture because he was worried about his cloud memory being hacked. I thought the bank scene demonstrated that GH is still best at finding unique ways to tell a story without spending more than two cents on a set. It looked like the entire thing was filmed in the hallway of the studio. I have no idea why Ava would sell Wyndemere, or why she suddenly is calling her entire relationship with Nikolas toxic, when really it started off with good intentions. But, I guess if I had a penthouse that matched my blouse I would consider moving there, as long as the butler from Wyndemere was part of the bargain.

While I am willing to suspend disbelief that Stefan is so focused on Gabi's wellbeing that he is ignoring his CEO duties to run a bistro, but it is a stupid detail that he can call Clyde in prison. One imagines that they wanted to spare the expense of another actor and another set for the scene. But it is silly to show Stefan yelling about dealing drugs in the town square, just feet away from Jada at the Pub. They did the same thing last week with Stefan yelling to Vivian over the phone. At least, they could stage these scenes out of the public eye. I mean, he's plotting a murder, and not even trying to keep it a secret. Also, I find the rapport between Chad, Everett, and Xander amusing, and I like the use of The Spectator for story purposes. But, I think that they are missing a step. Chad seems to have bought the paper without leveraging his risk through a loan. It would be nice to add a bit of realism that Chad is motivated to make the company profitable because he stupidly invested his children's future so that his girlfriend would stop flirting with her former lover. I know ranting about realism in Salem is like wishing that scenes were well lit (never going to happen), but I had to get it off my chest. Finally, are we supposed to forget about Li's murder and EJ's hitwoman just like everyone in Salem?

@chrisml On the subject of actors not remembering, Susan Lucci said that Tom Cudahey was Erica's first husband when she was interviewed about her lifetime achievement award the other day.

6.2/10 for today's show mostly for Jada and Stephanie. I like them both as potential younger leading women because they are smart. I appreciate that Alex and Harris rely on them for career advice and support. Why is Everett more interesting when people are talking about him than when he actually see him on screen? Nothing good, but again, who needs to give their credit card over to someone else in 2023? I know it provides a visual for TV, but in reality wouldn't he just add it to his kid's Apple Wallet and set a limit? They still write the show like it is Julie shoplifting on the first episode. Gotta get that cross-Peacock promo

5.5/10, I thought Tuesday was better than Monday. I appreciate for all the kerfuffle around the disrespect for female characters in the writing, that Nicole is not being treated as a raving lunatic (yet, because I saw the spoilers). It was a unique touch to have EJ support her, and the scene at Eric's place was nice. Kind of weird though that Eric and Sloan are walking around like business as usual. We just welcomed a baby in our family and his parents didn't leave the house, shower, or eat a proper meal for a week! Also, props to remembering that Eric and Jada were a thing. I've been wondering about her reaction, and it was delightful to close that loop, especially since she was the cop that arrested Leo at the scene of the birth. I think mid-week episodes are perfect for that kind of scene, which essentially summarize the story, but through a pairing of characters that don't usually interact. Furthermore, I continue to like Chad. It is a credit to the actor that I don't find conventionally attractive, and whose motives are childlike, that I keep wanting to see more of that character. Now, here's the thing I don't get. Dimitri had immunity for the whole caper on Beyond Salem. It's not like probation, where one false move, and they send you back to jail. So, why is he going to supermax now? It seems like a convenient way to extend the baby switch plot, but now Leo's got nothing on Sloan, if Dimitri can't testify about the baby. So, I don't see how he's much of a threat? On the other hand, if they wrote Sloan as an intelligent person, she would've known that getting rid of Dimitri was her best move. So, she could've tanked the negotiation to get him sent away, and she should be working on making Leo beholden to her ASAP. Lastly, I'm totally confused as to the purpose of making Dimitri's final scene with Lucas, considering that it meant nothing if Dimitri was going to be moved off-screen the next day.

I also have an opinion on the Roman & Anna pairing. He had a savior complex. She had been the girlfriend of a criminal that he was investigating. He got close to her in order to gain information. He wanted to save her, so they conceived Carrie. Then, she was trafficked, and the rest is history (I refuse to use the arcane term that they wrote in the 1980s). I imagine that her attraction to him was just someone who could help her get out of an awful situation. I don't think she ever loved him, as she certainly never tried to renew their relationship. But, she was young and got in with a bad crowd, and he was a means to an end.

Passions Discussion Thread
I'm listening to a weekly Passions recap podcast (actually called Passions Podcast). It struck me that despite the idea that Passions is remembered for having painfully repetitive dialogue, they actually told a lot of stories in a short amount of time. Of course, there are tons of loose ends. And an incredible amount of misogyny. But, it is entertaining to consume in podcast form. Travis Schuldt and Natalie Zee also had a podcast for a while called Passions for Life, but they last released an episode in June 2021.

I wonder if DAYS was being derivative of Wayne's character of Michael Culhane on Dynasty when trying to establish the character of Roman? Michael was a cad and very disrespectful, so the overlap is what inspired the question. As well as the prior discussion in this thread that Roman's pairing with Marlena was interpreted by the producers as being popular at first.

4.6/10 I hate these episodes that tease something is going to happen to move the story forward and then nothing happens. Leo using the secret entrance is funny. Again, the issue of where and when security cameras are placed at the Dimera house doesn't make sense. How does Lucas know what Dimitri looks like unless he's been watching DAYS in prison? And are we just going to overlook Lucas's meager pony-tail? It is giving Steven Seagal vibes. I like the EJ and Nicole scenes, since she “lost” the baby. It makes the triangle much more equal than when we saw evil-EJ trying to hire multiple hit-people over the summer. I hope EJ doesn't do anything duplicitous to mess this up because I enjoy vulnerable EJ. Although I giggle every time they mention moving on or putting the past behind them, given that in their universe this whole thing happened like two days ago.

That's funny, but it made me wonder - Aren't Evan and Jan off raising their spawn together? It is hard to believe that they're getting along, but maybe those two cray kids are making it work. No laugh emoji here? That's your best line today! Although it is interesting that John Black has never recovered from amnesia, and that's been going on for decades... Almost as annoyed as I am about this thread discussing everything but DAYS December 2023 episodes - jeesh!

Even in fictional Los Angeles, I'd never move anywhere without parking and those courtyard building means circling the block over and over. That's why they all dated each other. Because, they didn't want to give up their parking space. 😉

Allow me to clarify. I have no notes for two actresses. I think there is a time and place for child actors on soaps, and one expects a few saccharine scenes around the winter holidays. It is the archaic dialogue that I find objectionable. It sticks out like a sore thumb that you have contemporary discussions about surrogacy and debt one day, and then little girls screaming, “papa, papa wherefore art thou?” the next. - GH: December 2023 Discussion Thread
