Days of Our Lives: November 2023 Discussion Thread
OK, let's say my lover/roommate had not made their bed today. I'd still be more willing to make love on a mattress than a sofa (ie Alex and Theresa). Meanwhile, I'm certain to be alone on this one, but their chemistry was pretty hot. NGL, I enjoy a Thursday love scene. @AbcNbc247 Why did Sloan tell Dimitri that the charged against Leo would be dropped by morning, if that's not what EJ said?

NBC Daytime
Overall, it is remarkable that Generations is remembered as a soap that was more diverse and inclusive in order to attract a Black audience. Yet, while it was re-run on BET, there were no Black creative staff people hired in the production or development. In fact, when ratings were lagging, the network attempted to solve the issue by increasing the number of white characters. No new Black characters were introduced in the final six months, whereas the white family got at least two new family members. And rather than hiring a Black producer or head writer, they went with Jorn Winther. While we shouldn't judge it based on the ideals of today, one assumes that a network marketing a show toward a Black audience without hiring any Black creative in positions of power would be frowned upon in 2023

Historically, hiring Denise Alexander in hopes of increasing ratings is an age-old trick going back to when GH scooped her up from DAYS.

Yeah, probably - According to AWHP, he was fired in April, last aired in May, then returns in June two weeks before the finale. Honestly, I had never heard of the show, but reading about the ending was a fun rabbit hole. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/angel-strawbridge-leaked-audio-escape-to-the-chateau-b2347548.html Gibbs left first and got cast on OLTL

Y&R November 2023 Discussion Thread
If we had a 👍 that is what I would give this post, because that is exactly my reaction. I tuned in to see what the hype was about, after honestly not watching regularly since Traci and Brad's honeymoon. But, I've read enough recaps to follow along, and honestly it wasn't that difficult. However, when Nick become the smartest Newman? They're all sitting around talking, just waiting for the poison to kick in, and he's the only one actively looking for an antidote. I mean, Victoria's got other kids, she could wait to get Claire's exposition once they find the cure, but she's sitting on the sofa trying to have a family therapy session. It was nutty to be sure. Fun, a little dumb, with very melodramatic performances, and Nikki's vision were laughable. But, I will give the writer credit that this one of the few kidnappings in the history of soaps to include a bathroom. Poor Brad had to be constipated for a month when Lisa locked him in a cage.

Josie also really suffers in the final recast. Nadine Stenovitch may have shared Amy Carlson's haircut, but she had none of the charisma or sexual chemistry. It also didn't help when they recast Gary with John Littlefield. I know that they wound up together IRL, but it is a bummer when both characters in a couple get recast. Does anyone know the story of why they fired and then rehired Mr Littlefield? He left in May 1999, and SOD wrote that he was going to be replaced, then he returned a month later and stayed until the finale. John Littlefield is leaving Another World this spring Littlefield Joined the show in April 1998 replacing Tim Gibbs(Now Kevin on one life to live}The departure is storyline dicated this was reported from Sod

It is well established that they hate each other. He's done some pretty bad things to her, and he was partially responsible for the chain of events that led her to breakup with Brady. So, there's that... And, although Xander has been sympathetic recently, he has a sorted past. Which is why it may have seemed important to undo the kidnapping death of Susan. (btw thanks for reminding me that he's a Kiriakis not a Dimera ☺️ - it all gets mixed up sometimes)

Although I agree that there hasn't been enough exposition about Theresa's motives (perhaps because she doesn't have a talk-to). I think her objectives were clarified both in the scene with Konstantin when they revealed the con. It is not about the money (Alex having the inheritance doesn't directly benefit Theresa because she'd be staying in his apartment either way). She is punishing Xander. Which is also why the writers are pairing Xander with Sarah because they want to maximize the audience support for Xander and why he deserves the Kiriakis fortune.

Days of Our Lives: November 2023 Discussion Thread
Monday was a 6/10 I like the Nicole scene with the baby. A couple of years ago they would've stood in the square for three episodes before Nicole gave back the baby, so I appreciated the pace today. Rafe vs. EJ was a battle of the bad brows. Oy, the makeup department is not doing them any favors with jet black brows against salt & pepper hair. Frankly, it makes zero sense that Dimitri would call the police, but Stefan and Ava wouldn't. The Stefan/Ava caper would be helped by taking one moment to scheme and realize, (once again), they have the upper hand by possessing the evidence. Why not use that information to immediately extricate themselves from Clyde? For example, call him and say “Hey, Clyde, we're going to offer the guy who was arrested this evidence, so he'll grass you up, unless you get off of our collective jock, and stop threatening our loved ones.” The only answer is because they live in a soap universe where the good guys are always oblivious. It might be a fun twist if Rafe suspects Harris is a dirty cop for losing his keys, that led to the missing evidence. But that would require Rafe to be a little less clueless, so I am not counting on it.

https://sites.google.com/site/mundodallases2/dallas/urban-legends-of-the-supersoaps 20 URBAN LEGENDS of the Supersoaps 1. WAS LINDA EVANS THE FIRST CANDIDATE TO PLAY PAMELA EWING ON “DALLAS”? Legend Status: Untrue 2. WAS A DALLAS-DYNASTY CROSSOVER EVER PLANNED? The networks had to use a lot of fake stories (more or less leaked to trashy mags and papers) as an attempt at getting the viewers interested in those shows again. One of the most over-the-top articles had "Dallas"´ J.R. wheeling and dealing with the Queen of "Dynasty" herself, Alexis. Though the two shows were aired by competitor networks and produced by different companies (Spelling and Lorimar), there seemed to be an intention out there to make a crossover and unite these two parallel worlds, even for a brief storyline, though it was never confirmed or denied by TPTB. Legend Status: Untrue (but funny to think about!) 5. WAS PAMELA SUE MARTIN TEMPTED TO RETURN TO “DYNASTY” AFTER SHE LEFT? Even after re-casting the role, Spelling wanted Martin back. First, the Shapiros wanted her and Jeff to run a hotel (but Spelling had the rights over the adaptation of Arthur Hailey´s "Hotel", and they sued him: eventually they settled, and this idea was dropped). When they were working on the "Dynasty" spin-off, "The Colbys", they tried to lure her again, unsuccessfully. 8. WAS “KNOTS LANDING” AN ADAPTATION OF INGMAR BERGMAN´S “SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE”? Jacobs defined his initial idea for the show as "Scenes from a Marriage Times Four", a "dramatic exploration of the way people related in the post-sexual revolution world and how they kept their marriages together if they could". On the other side, Michael Filerman wanted to emphasize the soapy, lighter side. The Jacobs-Filerman creative duo usually explain very cordially that [..] one wanted "to produce art" and the other wanted "to create trash". 15. DID JOAN COLLINS REFUSE TO APPEAR IN “THE COLBYS”? Collins wrote in her autobiography "Passion for Life":"The producers were extremely anxious for me to guest-star in "The Colbys" but I refused 19. IS TRUE THAT SUSAN SULLIVAN SUGGESTED HER CHARACTER SHOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH RICHARD ON "FALCON CREST"? At the time, tabloids published that Robert Foxworth and Sullivan coudn´t stand each other because of her obsession with perfection, and they even hinted that the blossoming affair with Richard was partly a way to keep them apart. The communicative, sparkly actress talked about her shorter new hairdo, her wish to do comedy, her exit from "Falcon Crest" and also, about how Maggie´s relationship with her brother-in-law started. She said that, although actors didn´t have too much input in the plots per se, writers did listen to their suggestions and ideas. It was Susan herself who told them to investigate the undeniable chemistry that she and Richard Channing (David Selby) had on screen. @Khan - I thought some of these answers would intrigue you based on recent postings

Best/Worst Soap Wedding Dresses, Hats, Headpieces and Veils
I adore (Capitol) Sloan's first wedding ensamble, as much as I despise this one What do you call that thing on her head? Fringe bangs? A beaded swimcap? Who did this to poor Sloan? And how many sapphire necklaces did the girl own? Also, did anyone else see think of this hat when they saw GH Claudia's veil (the background perspective was odd)

I don't think the term soap is difficult to define. But given that since Friends, most sitcoms have cliffhangers and season finales, I believe it has to have more criteria than just continuing drama.

I wonder if Nolan Miller did all the costumes in Season 9, because Alexis is wearing a lot of Chanel (and I don't think Mr. Miller did knock offs).

ALL: The Lichtenstein Dilemma
But, these are examples of the thesis. The Lichtenstein Dilemma proposes that few female characters aged without being saddled with some version of a child, either of the substitute, foster, adopted, step, or long-lost variety.

Or, heat exposure - she was in the desert Meanwhile, I had forgotten the loose end in S9's finale of the woman in the luxury car who controlled Fallon's boyfriend/cop's partner. The speculation that it was Dominique doesn't make much sense, unless her plan went awry (credit youmiserablebitch blog) Overall, I think there was too much emphasis on the McGuffin of "The Collection" (aka the least creative name for an assemblage of N^*! Art) . For example, I still don't know what a South China Sea Oil Lease is, but it made no difference in the story.

I also agree with @Soaplover's premise that it is a shame that writers were never inspired to create more stories from Marley perspective about her relationship with Donna. I guess this was touched upon in later years when Marley had a breakdown over her resentment toward Vicky. But, Donna and Michael definitely had a favorite twin. Furthermore, I felt Marley's relationship with Jamie did the character no favors. Not only was he one of Vicky's cast-offs who later hooked with her twin, but the most romantic part of their relationship occurred off-screen in Europe! I would argue what was missing was a career so that she could be in stories that didn't revolve around romance. Buy a fertility clinic, become a lawyer, or teach literature, she needed a purpose.

Best/Worst Soap Wedding Dresses, Hats, Headpieces and Veils
Always exciting when I find an example that's new to me Poor Gwyneth, why did they insist on dressing her like a middle-aged vixen? Although her IMDB must be wrong because it says she was born in 1967, which means she would've started on Loving in 1984 at age 17 ?!? (PS, I know the one on the left isn't CLT)

I think Vicky remained characteristically Vicky during the Ryan romance, because the sibling rivalry mirrored her own backstory with Marley and the Kirkland switch was partially motivated by her own upbringing. But, as the damsel-in-distress during the Shane/Bobby story, she was indistinguishable from Marley.

@Mona Kane Croft I also wonder why Amanda doesn't fit the brief? Especially because when she was aged in 1987, she filled the gap created by the exit of Marley. And she was a lead character for a long time who was contrasted by Vicky and Paulina.
