  1. TIL that, Steve Sohmer, ex-husband of Deidre Hall, was in charge of marketing at CBS during the Dallas period. According to the NY Times, he coined the iconic phrase, 'Who Shot JR' for use in commercials and print ads. Which is ironic because they never say the line during the episode, it is just connected in our collective memories because of all the promotion.
  2. I recall this miniseries, because the lead character played by Harry Hamlin was a vague representation of Dan Quayle, and it aired right before the election. Hamlin plays a politician who ascends to power because of his good looks and provocative speeches (maybe only the first part was meant to invoke Quayle), but underneath he's a fascist. In the promo above, they mention โ€œthe show some don't want you to seeโ€, because the GOP objected to a prior ad that implied a direct connection between Hamln's character and Dan Quayle. I was just reading a Daily Mail story about Paul Hogan, and it made me question what ever happened to his ex-wife Linda Kozlowski. She was tapped for stardom because she had a film noir quality about her, like a poor man's Sharon Stone. But then quit the industry when the parts dried up. Any way, today I learned it was written by Steve Sohmer, best known around here as the ex-husband of Deidre Hall (and rumored lover of Suzanne Rogers). His wiki is a great read. Including that, he was in charge of marketing and promotion for CBS during the Dallas period, so he was responsible for a lot of the promos that have been posted on that thread. The New York Times also credits him with coming up with the line 'Who Shot JR?' for commercials and print ads.
  3. I agree, I find EOB very compelling in the scenes with Tate. Also, I like her sense of humor. She's a talented actress in search of a part (and a scene partner) that fits her strengths.
  4. They're so much better suited for each other now, given Jeff's most recent story. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  5. If that's true, I hope that Theresa gets to go back to her roots and stop dying her hair, so that they can get rid of that g-forsaken wig ๐Ÿ˜†
  6. Yeah, I keep thinking that eventually they'll have to switch EOB back to playing Gwen (I can only imagine how annoying it must be to wear that wig everyday on set). Did the switch happen in October? So, it's been 5 months. And I would imagine that they are waiting for Ron to return for the reveal. Then, I agree, Theresa will be written off to La La Land. But, I hope it is not as sad as her abandoning her sobriety.
  7. I would nominate the murder swap of Adam and Stuart on AMC as a terrible idea. It may an unpopular opinion, but I never enjoyed the character of Stuart, as I thought the overly precious portrayal of his unspecified developmental delay was insensitive.
  8. The facts and opinions about the relationship seem to be obscuring my point. I was simply remarking upon that it was startling to me to hear Laura reference the dwindling number of Webers in her scene with Heather, and wondered if others had the same reaction.
  9. I was pondering how modern audiences get so easily tired of long stories. But in comparison, how long was the Jenny/Katrina baby switch story? It feels like it lasted for more than a year. EDIT - I answered my own question Three years, that is remarkable! Fans today would lose their minds!
  10. I wonder if you were an average viewer, who is not clued into the changes in writing staff, would you still notice a change? I assume you'd recognize a sudden realignment of the relationships. But, it is a mystery if the typical GH fan could detect a change in the quality of dialogue, pace, or planning?
  11. I agree that Laura grew up around Heather. But I would contend that was mostly due to Leslie's relationship with Alice (Heather's mother). And Alice was very close to Laura. Rick adopted Laura when she was already 18, so the idea that she thought of him as a father is a bit of a stretch. He served paternal duties, like walking her down the aisle. But I feel like their closeness was overestimated as time went along. I've always felt that her use of the last name Weber was odd, because she married Scotty soon after she was adopted, and then she married Luke. So, she was mostly referenced as Laura Webber for the brief period before she married Scotty, and the few months between their divorce and her marriage to Luke. The Weber thing just threw me for a loop, because they've shared much more significant history, so it seemed like a random fact. It would be like her saying to Scotty that her ex-husband and his father were both the mayor. It is true, but hardly their most significant bond.
  12. Did anyone else get a case of whiplash when Laura mentioned to Heather that there aren't many Webers left in Pine Valley? Both are tangential Webers by marriage (direct or indirectly). So, their familial bond based upon their shared surname is tenuous at best.
  13. An interesting note on the issue from today's New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/21/arts/states-hollywood-film-tax-incentives.html
  14. Firstly, Eric > Alex any day. Man of the cloth, more like man in a towel, am I right? Stefan's latest move, recording EJ, feels somewhat underwhelming in terms of strategic planning. It's frustrating to see characters like Stefan and EJ not utilizing Chad's access to the press to their advantage. For instance, why didn't Stefan involve Chad by sharing the recording, allowing him to leverage it against EJ by threatening to expose the DA's questionable dealings? The predictability of Stefan handing over his phone to EJ leaves little room for surprise, especially considering the absence of cloud storage in Salem, making erasing the recording a straightforward solution. Despite these shortcomings, the nonchalant dismissal of Xander's legal troubles sets the stage for a significant confrontation once he inherits his wealth. The anticipation builds as various parties, including the DiMeras, Alex, and Konstantin, continue to stack grievances against him. This brewing conflict is likely to explode when Xander finally gains power and resources. While there's speculation that the slow reveal may be intentional until Ron's return, the ongoing accumulation of tensions promises an explosive resolution when Xander finally ascends to power.
  15. He made ponytails on men de rigueur
  16. Agreed on the Chad and Stefan stuff. I like that they're using this experience as a lesson for Stefan to learn about the importance of family. It was so silly when they were drugging each other, and icing Chad out for no reason. I like that a rivalry has been set up between Stefan and EJ, but it is not as extreme as it was in the past. Meanwhile, have Paulina and Leo completely forgotten that they know each other? It was odd that Stefan suddenly referenced his past with Abigail, but Leo seems to have completely forgotten his past with the mayor.
  17. On the Classic GH thread, I did the math and Jason has killed at least 30 characters in the past twenty-two years. So, it is not even an issue of Carly trying to protect Joss from knowing about Jason's checkered past. Because in any other town in America, if someone killed over 30 people, they'd talk about it everywhere, from the newspaper to the history books. By contrast, Sonny has directly shot and killed 10 people and Ryan Chamberlain killed 15.
  18. Right, I mean, Konstantin has told us frequently why he changed the will, so we know his motive, but we have no idea how he's planning to profit from it. On second thought, until today I thought he was just messing with Victor's loved one's out of spite, not for financial gains. So that might be a scab issue. Because originally it was just about avenging a wrongdoing against Victor, and only recently has there been a discussion about trying to get some money off it.
  19. I was interested in the number of murders committed by Jason Morgan, On the current show, there's been a lot of talk about Jason killing people, but I didn't recall anyone who actually died because Jason shot them. I think of Jason as hitting people, threatening people, and occasionally kidnapping people, but I couldn't name any of his victims until I looked them up on the GH fan site wiki and SoapCentral. So here's a list of deaths: Murdered Rosco [offscreen; Jun 10, 2002] Shot and killed one of Lorenzoโ€™s men to save Ric [Aug 11, 2003] Shot and killed Andy Capelli in self-defense during a struggle for a gun [Feb 19, 2004] Shot and killed Niko Dane in defense of Sam [Jul 1, 2004] Shot Faith Rosco and killed two of her men during a shootout [Feb 2005] Murdered the entire Sandoval family in retaliation for their attack on Mike Corbin and Sam [Mar 2005] Shot and killed Asher Thomas in defense of Alan and Monica Quartermaine [Aug 2005] Shot and killed Andrew Olsen in defense of Sam [Aug 2005] Shot and killed Javier Ruiz in defense of Sonny Corinthos [Oct 2005] Shot and killed Miguel Escobar [Mar 31, 2006] Shot and killed Juan Escobar after he threatened Sam [May 2006] Murdered Lorenzo Alcazar under the orders of Skye Quartermaine [May 2007] Shot and killed Ian Devlin in defense of Maxie Jones [May 6, 2008] Shot and killed three of Karpov's associates [Nov 2008] Killed Carter - the man who attacked Michael - in self-defense [Jun 11, 2010] Shot and killed Ewen Keenan in defense of Elizabeth [Sep 2012] Shot and killed Joe Scully, Jr. in self-defense [Oct 19-22, 2012] Shot and killed Cesar Faison in defense of Carly [Jan 26, 2018] Shot and killed one of Cyrus Renault's men in defense of himself and Maggie McMorris [Jan 30, 2020] Shot and killed one of Cyrus' men in defense of Cameron Webber [Feb 28, 2020] Shot and killed one of Cyrus' men who shot Marcus Taggert [Feb 28, 2020]t and killed another one of Cyrus' men in self-defense after a shootout [Feb 4, 2020] Shot and killed one of Cyrus' gunmen, who interrupted the confrontation between Sonny and Julian, in self-defense after a shootout [Dec 14, 2020] Shot and killed another one of Cyrus' gunmen, who was sent to kill Julian, in self-defense after another shootout [Dec 17, 2020] Shot and killed Walker in self-defense [Dec 29, 2020; revealed on Dec 30, 2020] Shot Brock, one of Cyrus' men who helped hold Spinelli hostage, in defense of Carly [May 28, 2021] Shot and killed one of Cyrus' men in defense of Spinelli [May 28, 2021] It is a lot to kill 30 people over the course of twenty years, although to be fair most were in self-defense (or in the defense of a loved one), except Rosco, Manny, and Alcazar. It is remarkable that he's still a romantic hero, when a guy like Ryan hasn't murdered half as many people and was dubbed a serial killer.
  20. I would simply disagree with the idea of it being hastily done. I understand that we're not currently witnessing the efforts of the writer who composed the story. However, they've had ample time to incorporate dialogue between Theresa and Konstantin discussing the intricacies of their plan. But @AbcNbc247 I appreciate you humoring me on an ornery day.
  21. To be fair, there's no evidence that he had creative input in the series. He didn't do any promotion beyond an Architectural Digest tour of his new home. Unlike American Horror Story when he was interviewed in print and on video. I think the blame lies mostly on Jon Baitz's script and Gus Van Zant's direction. They just aren't ready for prime time, and their style is better for suited for other forms of media. As well as the source material which was a gossipy, poorly written, and superficial record of the times. It made The Swans very unlikable, to the point that Truman's duplicity felt deserved. Meanwhile, they were the muses to a generation of directors, writers, and entrepreneurs, so they couldn't have been completely terrible people. Yet, in the TV version, we were given no reason to understand why they were so enthralling to the men in their lives.
  22. Here's my problem with the Theresa/Konstantin scheme. It has been at least six months since they tricked Alex into believing that he's the heir, but I still don't know their plan for stealing the money. Is Theresa supposed to marry Alex and Konstantin marry Maggie, and then divorce them and get half? The inheritance was received before the wedding, so it wouldn't be community property, and how do they know that there won't be a prenup? Or will they try to embezzle it after they're wed? Why do they need to be married to do that? As a viewer, I need some clues to stay involved with the plot. Otherwise, I am not invested. Let's subvert the impulse to react that the writer didn't know the plan, because the resolution is always part of the pitch for a story. So, that would be an uninformed critique (apologies for my tone, I'm a bit ornery today).
  23. IIRC, Cyrus overheard Nina confess to turning in Drew and Carly to the Feds. Cyrus then taunted Nina to confess to Sonny. When Sonny heard of Cyrus's role in the confession, he beat him up, and was briefly detained by the police for assault. However, when Cyrus recovered he told Sonny that he would refuse to testify who assaulted him, so the charges were dropped. However, now Cyrus had an advantage over Sonny, which is why he assigned Dex to kill him (a bit extreme, but not out of character).
  24. When does Annalynne McCord premiere? She signed in December, so I assume around May or June? But, has anyone heard anything further? Since they showed a picture of Konstantin's daughter, I think we can rule out that they're related. But, there aren't many current stories which are foreshadowing a new character.
  25. Also, isn't Harris kind of a dick for keeping Xander as a suspect, when he could've exonerated him immediately? He's left the hospital, met with Rafe, eat breakfast, had sex with Ava, and never called to EJ to say that Xander didn't shoot him?
