  1. Bless Julie and Corrie would never have been the same without her. I hope she can power through this diagnosis and it doesn’t get too severe.
  2. As different as Y&R may have been from its P&G neighbors on the CBS lineup, I think a great deal of those P&G soap fans were still drawn to Y&R as Bell was still a traditionalist in many ways. For years, I think the Bell soaps complemented the P&G soaps even as they also served as an alternative.
  3. With Leslie Charleson clearly not able to work fulltime anymore, I think Debbi Morgan bringing Angie over as Chief of Staff of GH would be the only full-time addition I'd ever accept. She can be at the heart of the hospital side of the show and serve as a new matriarchal figure. Fine, bring Jesse as well, but we know GH writes "good guys" in law enforcement as idiots and being the wronged party so that part would be tricky, lol.
  4. I wish Valentini would stop trying to make GH "ABC Daytime's Greatest Hits of actors." That said, I think it absolutely makes sense for characters that were lawyers like Nora and Jack to feasibly crossover with their roles for guest stints. It's only when we get to terrible casting and force-feeding the likes of Cameron Mathison, Roger Howarth, or Michael Easton in long-term roles that just don't work where I get pissed.
  5. I don't think Y&R would invest in a black female character 50+ at this point, so probably for the best.
  6. CBS Sunday Morning segment for Tina Tuner: And Beyoncé at her Friday concert in Paris - showing rare public emotion as she’s now often accused of being overly calculated and elitist.
  7. I never watch the trash factory that is The View anymore, but someone sent me their opening segment today. What caught me was Sunny Hostin mentioning that in her years as a federal prosecutor (specializing in child sex crimes), she couldn't recount the number of times an abused woman or child told her that learning about Tina's story and seeing the example she set encouraged them to come forward and want better for themselves. I've seen that myself in conversations with various people whenever Tina is discussed as well. I have to say, even without the legacy she's left behind in music/entertainment, if her lasting legacy was ultimately encouraging people (even if just one person) to deal with their trauma and want better for themselves - what more could she have asked for? That was a life well spent.
  8. Songwriting is one of her strengths, if only she realized PR-driven relationships aren’t needed to nurture it.
  9. Tina often talked about how she didn’t like her voice at first and how she didn’t have Diana Ross’s more polished vocals. She came to like what she had and realized that it was an asset that was better suited for edgier/rock-based material than straight pop/r&b. Her live persona also set her apart - Little Richard even once said that the difference between Tina and other women was that “Tina actually performs and can put on a show!” Tina also spoke about her preference of being classified as more of a rock artist than r&b/soul artist. She said that after everything she had been through, the “f.uck you” and the “bitch is back!” attitude of rock was better suited to who she was as a person.
  10. Tina often credited her Buddhist practice for helping her overcome so much of that trauma. Whatever it was, the world was a much better place for the example she set. Tina's musical impact will be studied for decades to come as well. She was the first female performer to sell out entire stadiums on par with her male counterparts. She also put on shows that were true spectacles for their time - again, not something many female artists were able to do because record companies and promoters didn't believe women could sell tickets. As I said before, every female pop/rock artist to come after her owes this woman a HUGE debt for paving the way.
  11. I always admired how despite being open about her troubled childhood and abusive marriage to Ike, she never played the victim. She wanted people to know she found her own strength and persevered and that her life was infinitely better because of it. She wasn't interested in passing blame to anyone, she was just happy to be able to live her life on her own terms. 13. Oprah is of course a major Tina fan and they became close friends in real life. This was her tribute post on IG today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CspJd0QOyQd/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
  14. I knew she had been ill for some time, but this hits hard. Tina’s influence on every major pop/rock female artist can’t be underestimated. She set the bar high for live performances as well. Not to mention, she had what is often considered the best “comeback” in rock & roll history. She overcame so much in her personal life. Simply calling her a “survivor” wouldn’t do her justice. What a life. What a career. What a woman. The world is a little less special with her no longer in it. Rest in peace, Tina! You deserve it and you’ve earned it!
  15. I’ve always said Karen was such a definitive character and that in many ways it’s perfect that she never returned for a failed stint or to be destroyed. She’ll always have that one amazing and EPIC stint and though JL was a recast, she’ll always have that one definitive actor attached to her.
  16. Agreed, Herb was the only man who was Dorian’s equal. I often got the vibe that Mel looked down on Dorian to an extent and I’ve never really felt that way with Herb from what I’ve seen.
  17. And the highest rated finale of the entire 90's decade as well! The end of Cheers was also part of a greater cultural shift in many ways - 90's pop culture took years to get off the ground in music, fashion, film, and TV. The early 90's were largely a late 80's extension. By the time Cheers ended music trends had started to shift to grunge, adult contemporary, and hip-hop, the supermodel era in fashion was peaking, there was a greater emphasis on blockbuster film making and quicker box office hits, and certain TV shows like Seinfeld were about to hit the stratosphere (with others on its heels).
  18. You know, Beldner wouldn't be a totally bad idea to test out as HW if Griffith finally gets fired and Sony doesn't want to splurge on better talent. He's worked in every soap writing position except as a HW so far. It would be an inspired choice to let him have a chance - I mean, the show is already bad, how much worse could it get? It would have been better if he could be paired with someone like Natalie Minardi Slater, but alas, Griffith made sure that won't happen.
  19. Tracy is one of the few characters left that's often the voice of the audience, but the show either quickly plays it off as comedy, or as Tracy just being a b!itch for being a b!tch sake in order to downplay it.
  20. I am fine with just doing a docu-style tribute to Jackie with her closest friends and cast members sharing their favorite stories and memories of her. GH can air it as a special episode as Y&R did for Jeanne and Kristoff. I feel like ghostly appearances are divisive and can come off as incredibly hokey. Since the woman died in real life, I don’t think her character deserves that. I’d rather Brad Maule appear in that docu-style special episode and share his memories.
  21. Michael is just an awful character with absolutely no agency or standards. Total hypocrite. In the Guza era, that scriptwriting team would likely have pointed that out even as the overall story painted him as some type of a conflicted hero. I think everything Tracy said about Carly in this scene regarding Sonny now applies to Michael himself - "Given the hell you have unleashed in loyalty to Sonny Corinthos, you have no right to criticize!"
  22. Brad Maule, Sarah Joy Brown, and Tony Geary were her definitive scene partners. They deserve to be part of any docu-style tribute in her honor and barring serious scheduling difficulties, it would be an oversight not to try to include them.
  23. I wish I could trust Valentini to invite people from the past who were most relevant to Jackie’s time on the show to participate in something like that. Rather, he’d probably have Eden McCoy and Laura Wright babble for an hour.
