  1. This was a nice interview (despite the annoying panel), and glad Beverly gave respect to Julie Goodyear and said her best times were in her beginning years.
  2. So Beverly Callard is leaving for the millionth time? I wish they'd kill Liz off or at least have Steve leave with her...
  3. What was going on with AMC at this point and why were they starting to tumble? Assuming the increased competition in some markets from a now very strong Y&R couldn't have helped.
  4. One thing is for certain, Y&R's eventual dominance wasn't a fluke occurrence. Throughout the 80's, they were consistent and broke through the ABC dominance for most of the early part of the decade. They maintained their audience (for the most part) by the end of the 80's when other soaps started to lose it. Oddly, Y&R was the soap in its own bubble that didn't follow all the trends most soaps would - other than some great timeslots, I have to wonder if that's what the average viewer ultimately appreciated. God knows they're coasting off that past reputation to this day.
  5. It's still strange that Leon hasn't been mentioned at all in this series and the previous Roseanne reboot. When the main show ended, Roseanne and Jackie gave their shares of the Lunchbox over to Leon and Nancy. But again, I guess we're supposed to forget season 9 of Roseanne ever happened...
  6. i hadn't seen this before, ITV's tribute to Doris Speed when she died in 1994. As someone in the comments pointed out, it's sad to think only William Roache and Julie Goodyear remain from the folks who participated in this.
  7. I've never been a big fan of Mel's (though Tamzin Outhwaite is an amazing actress). However, that was an AWFUL ending for the character. Typical Kate Oates with style over substance.
  8. The last time any pairing on Corrie had remotely any chemistry. And sadly, probably the last time poor Carla ever had decent writing. These two are probably the best thing to come out of Kym Marsh's existence on this show (which is luckily coming to an end soon - I hope permanently). It's funny that Robert James-Collier often felt embarrassed whenever his Corrie stint was mentioned during promotional appearances for Downton Abbey. So much of Liam was a direct result of his natural charisma and personality.
  9. Full interview with Wendy and Robyn:
  10. Robyn still looks like she wants to beat Wendy's ass: Robyn Crawford and Whitney Houston Planned to Confront Wendy Williams Over Acrimonious Interview
  11. I do think Robyn was Whitney's soulmate and the one holding her together as much as she could. You could tell in that Dateline interview how much Robyn still loved her and how much it stung to be cut out of Whitney's life when she was. I don't think anyone knew Whitney the way Robyn did, and despite Cissy's (and others) objections, Whitney brought Robyn along before and after she experienced success. Probably because she trusted her deeply and knew no one would look out for her the same way. And really, we've already seen that no one else in Whitney's circle had the same kind of respect for her - especially her own damn family.
  12. Robyn Crawford finally speaks.... Whitney Houston's Best Friend Robyn Crawford Breaks Her Silence on Their Love Affair in New Memoir
  13. So, another flop for Queen Latifah then?
  14. Even EON managed to beat the entire NBC lineup that weeks, wow.
  15. Sadly, I think the next time we'll hear of Bet again is if Julie dies and they do some type of special episodes to honor her/Bet.
  16. The scene where Annie fires Bet after Bet told her the truth about him is amazing. The building of the tension, and Annie stuck in her ways as ever. Corrie doesn't write scenes like that anymore, nor are they capable with the current crop of characters.
  17. I always read that gay men had a strong affinity for Bet, but I don't think that's necessarily because of her unique sense of style/fashion (as this clip tries to portray). I think it had more to do with being someone vulnerable yet strong, and constantly being knocked down in life yet having the ability to persevere and holding your head up high in the end. I know that's what I identify most with when watching Bet's best years.
  18. To be fair, it doesn't take much to be "soapier" than Generations...
  19. Something about Dennehy wasn't quite right, and she always looked so damn old (when she wasn't) for the part. The right ingredients of actress and character writing just came together with Sherry Stringfield. She'll always be my Blake and the one that left the biggest impression on me
  20. Sally Sussman Morina is her own worst enemy. She simply didn't have the creative talent to craft the show she wanted and it would have likely been better off in the hands of others.
  21. I've been on a classic Corrie binge lately (mostly 70's though early 90's), and I'm just sad that the current show resembles nothing of what once made it so special. Corrie had such vivid and complex characters for a long period of time, the type of characters you couldn't find anywhere else. There is no character writing anymore, it's just one bad plot after another.
