HBO: Game of Thrones
Little Finger showing up was a lot like Jon's resurrection. How anyone could be surprised be either is far beyond me. I agree that the matter of fact way the Stark banner replaced Bolton was just right. One thing I found interesting is that Jon wasn't made to seem like an infallible military commander in this episode. Actually, that's an argument against the Starks feeling nihilistic. If Jon didn't think anything mattered he wouldn't have ridden out to try to save his little brother against all possible odds. It was a terrible mistake that arguably got a lot of people killed, but he acted on pure emotion.

Also, I don't think we were supposed to find Little Fingers arrival surprising. First we saw Sansa write to him for help. Second, if anyone thought that Ramsey was going to win that battle, they haven't been paying attention. How else could Jon win if Little Finger didn't show up? On another board I saw people theorizing that Jon was actively protected by magic in this episode and I think that's right. The conversation between Jon and Red Woman set that up. I sort of rolled my eyes when none of the arrows hit him. The Lord of Light's protection at least explains that. I don't think there would have been happiness and hugging in that episode if Ned Stark himself walked out of the crypt. Rickon is dead and Jon just went through living hell and watched a lot of people he cared about die. His army was wiped out and there is another army in town. I'm not so sure Little Finger wasn't taking a lesson from the Late Lord Frey on that one. I bet Sansa and Jon aren't either. Plus who knows who they can trust in the North after this other than Little Lady Mormont.

^ I'm not surprised. There has been wall to wall Trump coverage. He's been given so much free media it's sickening.

1. This seems odd, why doesn't he just donate it to himself? 2. Yay!

I think the reason Rickon was given up was Jon letting the Wildings stay south of the wall. That was seen as a betrayal. I also hoped that at least one house would betray Ramsey mid battle. I think part of the reason that didn't happen was that any house betraying Ramsey would have gone for him. TPTB wanted to let Jon and Sansa kill him. I do wonder why Jon didn't ask The Red Woman to bring Rickon back, but maybe he thinks it's a fate worse than death. It worried me a little that Jon's army is mostly dead and Little Finger's is not. Hopefully, he won't screw Sansa over.

One thing I like about GoT is that it doesn't glorify battle. All of those poor men piled high like cattle at the slaughter. Awful. The camera work was really good, showing the confusion and horror surrounding Jon. Jon thought Rickon might survive, but Sansa understood there was never a chance. I was just glad Ramsey wasn't pulling that child's half flayed body behind him, which is what I was expecting. Ramsey was more diabolical than that though. He knew hope would draw Jon out. I was also glad they made him a little older. It's not fair, but watching that happen to a five year old would have been worse. All told he had a clean death, so that's something. Watching the giant (poor guy) knock down the door was pretty satisfying. I wondered if they could make Ramsey's death even a little satisfying. Revenge tends to feel empty to me, since it doesn't undo anything, but letting Sansa end him was as good as it was going to get. I'm glad she didn't lose sight of that goal for one single second. Having Little Finger around is unfortunate. I like the character, but I wish her were in the south, so he couldn't cause trouble for the Starks. I wonder if the Red Woman is so subdued because she's seen Ser Davos killing her in the flames? It's strange the way she's just given up even after being given the power of resurrection. Yara flirting with Dany was fun.

That's strange. If nothing else I'd expect him to want the attention.

Except for that part where she was stabbed in the stomach and there is no way in hell she would be able to run that long and that fast. Then she slides on her stomach and not only keeps running, but outruns the waif? The plot holes in this episode were big enough to drive a truck through. I'm just hoping the next one is better. I expect it will be, since usually the battle episodes are outstanding.

Skin- I agree with you. I think that the NRA has managed to get many people to believe that "Obama is coming for your guns", but he's never advocated banning guns. Just some common sense restrictions. At the very least a person should need some gun safety training, a background check and a license. Every year something like a hundred (I have to look up the statistic, but it's a lot) toddlers shoot someone because their parents don't follow basic gun safety laws. That's crazy. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/toddlers-shot-victim-week-2015-article-1.2398377

Crazy talk. As if a bunch of civilians would have been a match for the Nazi war machine just because they had a few guns. Same thing with these Rambo wannabes who think civilians with guns would be a match for the American military. Somehow they manage to forget about the satellites, drones, tanks, missile launchers, bombs, supplies and organization our military would bring in that scenario. If the government ever does come calling (and yeah, I don't believe it will) we're screwed.

This is a pretty funny take on the last episode. https://thespeshblog.com/2016/06/14/game-of-thrones-s6e8-no-one/ I mostly agree, but don't read it, if you don't already have an idea of what Cersei is up to.

I'm very thankful that Trump has some conspiracy nut to him. If he weren't saying some of these off the wall things, but just focused in on people's fears, I think he'd be getting somewhere.

Ha! I almost miss the days of a good SON showdown. There have been some epic ones over the years, but my days of really getting into it over a TV show are (hopefully) long gone. When I feel the urge I just hit the ignore button and move on. That's why JB doesn't phase me in the least.

What exactly have I said to you that is nasty? Nothing. You are the one being aggressive over a TV show. "he's dead to me" is an expression. It means I'm no longer invested in the character. I am not freaking out and I've thought through my opinion plenty. Thank you. I expressed my opinion, which is different from yours, so you felt the need to get personal and condescending. I can like you and still think the way you are posting at me in this particular thread is rude.

I think that's a good assessment Vee. I'm just no longer invested in the character. Someone who thinks there is only one other person in the world isn't particularly interesting to me. He's said it often enough that I believe him, so the whole Brienne connection doesn't mean much to me. I was also glad to get some movement in Arya's story. I wonder if she'll meet up with The Hound, since she admitted that part of her didn't want him dead. I'll be interested to see if Clegane is headed north or south.

No, I don't think I'm being dramatic. I'm getting tired of you telling me that I am. Telling Jaime and the Blackfish obviously was necessary, since in her own words she failed by not telling them. As to why it was lame, I explained that in quite a lot of detail.

I agree, but at least that was one cheat they earned. On the one hand, I do feel they punked out. I'm sure fight scenes are hard to film and choreograph in a way that looks realistic, especially when it's two teenagers. I freely admit the sandsnake fight was pitiful. However, haven't we been watching all of this training to see Arya become a good fighter? At least we saw her train blind, so it made some sense that she would take that advantage in the fight with the waif. What I can't forgive or get over is the cheating and plot holes in the Blackfish story. Brienne doesn't mention to Jamie or the Blackfish that there is an army of the dead on the Northern border? That every person they know is about to be swallowed in an endless night? That Jon Snow has been resurrected?! Are you effing kidding me? Lame, so, so unforgivably lame. Why did the writers even bother to send Brienne south? Nothing came of it except huge plot holes. Then the Blackfish choosing to commit suicide by Lannister, instead of going to help his niece? "You'll serve her better than I ever could". What nonsense. She needs all the help she can get, not just the best person. As for Jaime, he's dead to me. Threatening to catapult a baby into Riverrun? Disgusting. I don't consider his love for Cersei a redeem quality at all. It's nothing but a sick obsession. I would wish him to return to the Red Keep only to find Cersei's head on a spike, but that would mean the High Sparrow wins and I can't quite stomach that. I'm quickly losing faith in the writers. I think they were doing well with adapting GRRM's material. Lord knows it was not an easy job. They may be getting ideas from him, but without actual material to adapt, I really wonder if they can bring this all together. They are not off to a great start, imo. I swallow all the plot holes and stupid writing I can take when I watch soaps. I don't need it on what has been a great show.- HBO: Game of Thrones
Interesting article on the possibility of a spin off. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/06/12/why-hbo-is-almost-certainly-considering-a-game-of-thrones-spin-off/?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix&yptr=yahoo#4ea8f9053775- HBO: Game of Thrones
I couldn't be more frustrated that Brienne didn't mention the White Walkers or the fact that Jon Snow was resurrected. Come on! I'll comment more tomorrow, not really feeling it tonight.- HBO: Game of Thrones
Commander Mormont was Ser Jorah's father. I was kidding about getting Bear Island back. If he lives I'm sure Dany would give him whatever he wants. Ned sent him into exile for selling slave. I'm not sure, but I think his father went to the wall out of shame leaving his own sister in change. Sansa's situation makes me wonder if Tyrion is set to die. I wouldn't have thought so, but that marriage is a problem.- HBO: Game of Thrones
I sure hope Ser Jorah doesn't think he'll be getting Bear Island back some day. He doesn't stand a chance against that little lady. I kept expecting Jaime to just murder the Blackfish where he stood. I'm glad he didn't, but it added a little tension to their scenes. This episode made me wonder how Ramsey is going to handle his hostage. Do Sansa and Jon have what it takes to keep going if Ramsey is flaying Rickon in front of them? I hope it doesn't go there though, that's too dark even for me. It was nice to see Ian McShane, but it was such a short role, I'm surprised they brought him in for it.- The Politics Thread
^ Yeah. I see a lot of Republicans trying to back away from Trump in a half assed way. They know deep down that having anything to do with this guy is immoral (and that's not a word you'll see me bandy about often), but they can't bring themselves to completely renounce him. I can't respect these people who are trying to have it both ways.- HBO: Game of Thrones
I wonder if we'll learn the fate of the hostages tonight? I wouldn't want to be in either of their places. The Black Fish doesn't have a lot of reason to save Edmure and we don't even know if Rickon is still alive. If he is it's only because Ramsey wants to make Jon and Sansa watch. - HBO: Game of Thrones
