  1. Kane couldn't have lasted very long as he was credited writing The Doctors along with Robert and Eileen Mason Pollock in November 1970.
  2. There is but one word to describe this: beautiful.
  3. Guiding Light definitely hit #1 in the ratings for about three weeks in July 1984. I remember it well because Entertainment Tonight aired a story about GL's ratings surge.
  4. I recall watching some scenes between Meta and Michael Burke around 1997. For some reason, I got the impression that they were going to link the two characters -- that Michael was Meta's son. But that never came to pass.
  5. I've been watching those 1994 clips, belatedly, mainly for Carmen Duncan's last hurrah as Iris. As I've often bemoaned on this board, I never understood what TPTB were thinking, shipping a veteran character off to prison never to be heard from again. After seeing a good deal of the storyline again now, I have a new theory: Could AW have been in negotiations with Beverlee McKinsey to make a cameo appearance as Iris to wrap up the story sometime after Duncan left? I think the timing works…BM came out of retirement to appear in a couple of episodes of GH just a few months after CD left AW, and McKinsey was quoted as saying that she only did that because she needed a TV credit to maintain her union's health insurance. She was living in LA at that time, but she could have flown to NY for a month or two to usher Iris off the show permanently, in a manner more becoming the character. Maybe the show was even toying with killing Iris off, i.e., taking a bullet after teaming up with Carl and Rachel to bring Evan down or whatever. Whether Duncan left of her own volition or the show wanted to write the character out to save money, I'm still inclined to believe that this was not meant to be the end for Iris's character. Even though she was partially responsible for Carl's shooting and arguably deserved to go to jail, a 15-year sentence (handed down right after the jury read the verdict!) was so over-the-top — especially when Carl had fully recovered — and Evan was still being positioned as the villain at this point. Iris going on the lam or something would have actually been a more expedient exit, and less messy if Evan's "redemption" was already planned. The only dramatic reason I can think of for rushing Iris off to prison like they did was to up the stakes when she returned, presumably for Evan's downfall. What I could never figure out, though, was how another Iris recast would have fit into the canvas. It doesn't see like AW was all that invested in the character at that point. Whereas a short-term McKinsey return might have generated some buzz, which AW could have used at the time, and by all accounts she wouldn't have wanted to stay long. Obviously no deal was finalized by the time CD left, and the GH role came along for BM — at which point she would have had no reason to come back to NY, likely for a longer commitment than GH wanted. Meanwhile, I believe CD left the country. All of which would have left the character of Iris in limbo. Can anyone recall speculation along these lines back in 1994, or anytime in the 20-plus years since? What, if any, impact do folks think such a stunt would have had for AW at that point? I highly doubt that BM was being considered coming back. She was also very aged at this point. Remember her role was casted as a younger person.. BM at this point was well into her 60's I think. It would have been great to bring CD back for the last episode. At that point, the role was really hers and not sure if the ratings would have changed bringing BM back since most of the audience had either left or there was a new a new audience There was hardly a huge age difference between Bev and Carmen. At the time of the cancellation, Bev was 64. Carmen was 57.
  6. I've seen those 77-82 dates for Danson before though it's clearly inaccurate information. According to an interview with NPR, Danson played Mitch for 2 episodes in 1977.
  7. Great find! I think that is Zaida.
  8. Was Marland still working on Soul Survivors when he died? I thought he created the show in the late 1980s but CBS passed on it.
  9. I was so disappointed when Anna left. Zaida Coles was such a wonderful actress. I loved her friendship with Carolee and thought the character had so much potential. It's interesting that soap history has said that Anna and Simon Harris had a romance. Clearly, that never happened. Jody Lee was very prominent when Rita Lakin was still writing. Once Rick Edelstein was solo head writer, Jody Lee faded from sight. I recall a double date with Steve and Carolee and Jody Lee and Liz in the park and after that Jody Lee just stopped appearing. I think I read that C.C. Courtney had a role on Broadway or off Broadway around the time Jody Lee stopped appearing.
  10. A big shocker about Billy Allison was revealed on Friday's episodes. Any reactions?
  11. Jody Lee departed in 1969 when Rick Edelstein was head writer. He just stopped appearing. I recall that at one point he was mentioned to be visiting his family back home. Liz departed in April/May 1970. She didn't have much to do after she was kidnapped by Phillip Townsend. Toward the end of her stint, she returned to work with Nick in the lab. She then got an emergency message about her mother, I believe, and left town. It was very abrupt. As for Anna, she had some kind of health crisis in the spring of 1970. Then, around October 1970, after the Pollocks assumed writing the show, Anna mentioned a job offer in New York City. She quickly accepted the job and departed. Recently, Carolee received a postcard from Anna that hinted that she and Ed Stark had reconciled.
  12. Catching up on this week's episodes. We get our first glimpse of Dr. Hank Iverson and Dr. John Morrison, plus mention of lab technician Toni Ferra (played by Anna Stuart). I had no idea that Toni was Dan Allison's niece.
  13. I think the conversation tapered off after that SON upgrade last year. People migrated to other forums, like Daytime Royalty and Facebook. We're now into November 1970. The Pollocks' work just started airing a few weeks ago. May to October 1970 was pretty outstanding with one of the standouts being Eileen Kearney as Greta Powers. Carol Pfander is currently playing Cathy Ryker, the role that Nancy Barrett would play.
  14. Susan Yusen portrayed Diana Selkirk, who was in the Children of the Earth cult. Her father, who was dying, got Mike Karr to get her out of the cult. Upon his death, Mr. Selkirk's corneas were given to Mike who was blind. Diana became obsessed with Mike and ultimately determined that Mike wasn't worthy of her father's corneas. She tried to throw acid into Mike's eyes but got carted away by the police. She was only around for about four months. David Garrison played Cody Patrick, who was in the cult storyline. He was the mastermind behind some murders that were committed by Albert, played by David Prowse of Star Wars.
  15. It is still Cobert but I think he'll be gone soon. I believe I recall someone saying that the music was changed to Score Productions in late 1970. In one of this week's episode, one of the music cues was definitely one of the Dark Shadows tracks, not just shades of his DS work. I think the music cue appeared during a nightmare Althea was having.
  16. Here's a clip: https://youtu.be/T-INBTpEpc0
  17. I knew about Julie's demise but I had no idea that it would happen in this episode…well, her fall down the stairs anyway. The episode had me on the edge of my seat throughout and the following episode as well done, too, especially with the music as Greta stored her stolen goods in the closet. I loved the look on Julie's face as she taunted Rico and she relished in the fact that she was going to destroy his life. Yes, I was on the edge of my seat too. At first I thought Rico was going to give in and kiss Julie, but when he left and she started up the stairs,I figured something bad was going happen when she saw Greta with her collection. You are so right about the music. It really makes the scene. That's what's missing from today's soaps. The only daytime soap that I bother to watch sometimes is TBATB and they play muzak in the background. The scenes are nowhere as compelling as these. Julie's sinister smile after she further tore her dress chilled me. Clearly, she was going to make life hell for Rico. I'll miss her stirring up trouble at Hope Memorial. Ginger Gerlach was pretty memorable in that role.

  19. It was either 95, 96, or 97? That was a mistake The revelation came around February/March 1997 and paved the way for Alexandra's sudden departure.
  20. None other than Marsha Clark showed up this week on an August 1970 episode of The Doctors. She played a candy striper in the staff lounge. She then appeared at the nurses' station during the closing credits. As she walked toward the elevator, she encountered Dr. Nick Bellini and student nurse Julie Forrest. Of course, Nick was played by actor Gerald Gordon and Marsha was the president of his fan club.
  21. Was Billy the Winters kid? No. The kid who was adopted by Ruth and Bill Winters was named Danny. Billy is the son of Dan and Tammy Allison.
  22. Overall, I was utterly disappointed with the mid-season finale. Yes, there were some fine moments -- the image of the ants making their way to Sam's plate, Deanna and Michonne's talk, Deanna's "Oh crap" line. But, overall, the episode was very anticlimactic. While I understand the house was under siege by walkers, Rick and Jessie showed so little concern for their offspring. Rick makes a point of saying that Deanna can't be by herself, but then doesn't send anyone to watch over her. Poor Judith could have been a goner. Then there's Jessie who doesn't bother to tell Sam that they're fleeing the house until the kid opens the door. Very clunky plotting. Then there's the missing characters. Where's Aaron? Where's his long MIA boyfriend? Where's Deanna's son? And I was rooting for Father Gabriel and Eugene to bite it last night. I would have much preferred them as opposed to Deanna.
  23. Nuanced, subtle storytelling is long gone from today's daytime dramas, alas. The scenes with Jingles the Clown were often quite terrifying, and the storyline went on for an extended period. As it turned out, Zoe Cannell, Carter's sister and Julian Cannell's wife, was the one under the disguise. She was afraid that her husband Julian was falling for Andrea, and with a husband as handsome as Joel Crother's Julian, could anyone blame her for being nervous, LOL? Actress Lois Smith (of EAST OF EDEN and TRUE BLOOD fame) was mesmerizing as the deranged Zoe. This was Writer Henry Slesar at his delicious best. We were so lucky to have him pen exciting, intricate, layered mysteries on TEON, but his work on SOMERSET was also very good. I only found OLTL weak under his pen, but he was not alone at the helm of that show. The Somerset Register website (an incredible treasure trove of information about the show) says that Andrea's aunt Rowena was Jingles the Clown, not Zoe. Zoe, however, had given Rowena the clown outfit along with instructions to give Andrea meds (laced with weed killer) every night. The Somerset register is indeed a treasure trove of information, and your post has jarred and clarified my memory. Yes, you are correct: afraid of getting caught, herself, Zoe Cannell manipulated batty Aunt Rowena into "helping" give Andrea Moore her medicine (which Zoe had poisoned) by donning the Jingles the Clown costume and visiting Andrea at night. I should have written, "As it turned out, Zoe Cannell, Carter's sister and Julian Cannell's wife, was the one BEHIND THE PLOT TO KILL ANDREA MOORE. She was afraid that her husband Julian was falling for Andrea...." All of this is in my SOMERSET scrapbook, which I maintained during the show's run, and I should have referred to that for verification instead of relying on my memory. Color me embarrassed. With senior moments like this, I appear as dotty as...Aunt Rowena! Sorry about that! When it comes to technology, I am the single most clueless person on the face of the planet. I have no clue whatsoever how folks upload anything to the internet. We can talk about this more in a PM. How cool that you kept a Somerset scrapbook! I have fuzzy memories of the show that stick in my head: Zoe killing Carter, Dorothy's attempts to kill Heather, Eve's mountain car accident, Avis talking about Julian's masculine hands, Jill and Jack's necklaces. Such a great show!
  24. India was gone but Lahoma was around through September 1973.
