  1. Most of the comments I've seen are encouraging Retro to not rewind. Also, Retro has repeatedly stated that they are committed to airing the episodes through the end of the series. I look at this differently. I find it positive that the network is not only returning The Doctors to the daytime line-up but also asking viewers' opinions. In this day and age, that's rare and I think it speaks volumes about Retro's commitment to the show.
  2. I always got the impression that they were going to reveal that Frank Cooper was Dahlia's father. I recall Frank and Dahlia's mother Tina knew each other, but then Tina was dropped.
  3. That's really not true. A show having more than one lead Emmy nod has been pretty standard over the years. Many soaps -- including AMC, EON, OLTL, GH, GL, AW, Y&R -- have had more than one actor/actress nominated for a lead Emmy over the years. It was pretty common in the 80s. I remember Sharon Gabet and Ann Flood from EON being nominated for lead actress one year. In 1983, Dorothy Lyman and Susan Lucci (AMC) and Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser (OLTL) were nominated.
  4. Yep. I believe it was in 1986 during Jeff Ryder's brief stint as head writer. He talked about bringing back Hope and also mentioned about introducing Rusty and Sarah Shayne. Within a few weeks, he was out and Mary Ryan Munisteri was hired as head writer.
  5. Jason hasn't appeared yet. But that's interesting. When Steve mentioned Jason recently, he said he was a doctor living in Texas. In a recent episode, Steve and Carolee were discussing names for the baby and settled on Stephanie. During the conversation, Steve mentioned his mother Mona for the first time.
  6. I'm confused. What's the purpose of making Mike Bauer a member of the Banning family? And what does John recover from? And it seems anticlimactic, in your scenario, to have Marianne find out her true paternity after John's death.
  7. Thanks for sharing this. It's pretty cool to watch this again after so many years. According to the Edge website, which is rich in details, the story culminated in March 1976. Apparently, the story wrapped in April. And I don't think this was Louise's last episode. The Edge site states,"Pretending to be Serena one last time, Josie said goodbye to Timmy and was committed to Greenhaven Sanitarium." And I loved those Y&R clips at the end and how painful Lauralee Bell's acting was back in the 80s.
  8. I hated it. I at least want to see the world spin around and space or whatever. Only reason I loved the cornfield opening was the theme and graphics. it's too bad they never released a second version with the other characters Is it definite that they planned a second version? ATWT only had a cast of about 25-26 at that point. This version featured most of the cast, either at the forefront or in the clips in the background.
  9. Not true, Mitch. The videos of the scattering of Alan's ashes and Lewis boys fishing are available online. Definitely different locations. The Lewises were shown fishing in a brook (likely filmed in Peapack). Alan's ashes were scattered from a beach along a lake (likely Lake Mohawk in Sparta, NJ, which was the filming location for the double weddings). Brooks like the one Guiding Light used are quite common in that area of New Jersey (my late aunt lived right next to one) and are quite popular for fishing.
  10. According to synopses posted on Daytime Royalty, Leslie died in June 1976 and Joe died in November 1976. didn't Leslie kill herself? No. Mike's first wife Julie (Hope's mother) committed suicide, I believe. Leslie was killed when she was struck by a car driven by Spence Jeffers.
  11. According to synopses posted on Daytime Royalty, Leslie died in June 1976 and Joe died in November 1976.
  12. Kane couldn't have lasted very long as he was credited writing The Doctors along with Robert and Eileen Mason Pollock in November 1970.
  13. There is but one word to describe this: beautiful.
  14. Guiding Light definitely hit #1 in the ratings for about three weeks in July 1984. I remember it well because Entertainment Tonight aired a story about GL's ratings surge.
  15. I recall watching some scenes between Meta and Michael Burke around 1997. For some reason, I got the impression that they were going to link the two characters -- that Michael was Meta's son. But that never came to pass.
  16. I've been watching those 1994 clips, belatedly, mainly for Carmen Duncan's last hurrah as Iris. As I've often bemoaned on this board, I never understood what TPTB were thinking, shipping a veteran character off to prison never to be heard from again. After seeing a good deal of the storyline again now, I have a new theory: Could AW have been in negotiations with Beverlee McKinsey to make a cameo appearance as Iris to wrap up the story sometime after Duncan left? I think the timing works…BM came out of retirement to appear in a couple of episodes of GH just a few months after CD left AW, and McKinsey was quoted as saying that she only did that because she needed a TV credit to maintain her union's health insurance. She was living in LA at that time, but she could have flown to NY for a month or two to usher Iris off the show permanently, in a manner more becoming the character. Maybe the show was even toying with killing Iris off, i.e., taking a bullet after teaming up with Carl and Rachel to bring Evan down or whatever. Whether Duncan left of her own volition or the show wanted to write the character out to save money, I'm still inclined to believe that this was not meant to be the end for Iris's character. Even though she was partially responsible for Carl's shooting and arguably deserved to go to jail, a 15-year sentence (handed down right after the jury read the verdict!) was so over-the-top — especially when Carl had fully recovered — and Evan was still being positioned as the villain at this point. Iris going on the lam or something would have actually been a more expedient exit, and less messy if Evan's "redemption" was already planned. The only dramatic reason I can think of for rushing Iris off to prison like they did was to up the stakes when she returned, presumably for Evan's downfall. What I could never figure out, though, was how another Iris recast would have fit into the canvas. It doesn't see like AW was all that invested in the character at that point. Whereas a short-term McKinsey return might have generated some buzz, which AW could have used at the time, and by all accounts she wouldn't have wanted to stay long. Obviously no deal was finalized by the time CD left, and the GH role came along for BM — at which point she would have had no reason to come back to NY, likely for a longer commitment than GH wanted. Meanwhile, I believe CD left the country. All of which would have left the character of Iris in limbo. Can anyone recall speculation along these lines back in 1994, or anytime in the 20-plus years since? What, if any, impact do folks think such a stunt would have had for AW at that point? I highly doubt that BM was being considered coming back. She was also very aged at this point. Remember her role was casted as a younger person.. BM at this point was well into her 60's I think. It would have been great to bring CD back for the last episode. At that point, the role was really hers and not sure if the ratings would have changed bringing BM back since most of the audience had either left or there was a new a new audience There was hardly a huge age difference between Bev and Carmen. At the time of the cancellation, Bev was 64. Carmen was 57.
  17. I've seen those 77-82 dates for Danson before though it's clearly inaccurate information. According to an interview with NPR, Danson played Mitch for 2 episodes in 1977.
  18. Great find! I think that is Zaida.
  19. Was Marland still working on Soul Survivors when he died? I thought he created the show in the late 1980s but CBS passed on it.
  20. I was so disappointed when Anna left. Zaida Coles was such a wonderful actress. I loved her friendship with Carolee and thought the character had so much potential. It's interesting that soap history has said that Anna and Simon Harris had a romance. Clearly, that never happened. Jody Lee was very prominent when Rita Lakin was still writing. Once Rick Edelstein was solo head writer, Jody Lee faded from sight. I recall a double date with Steve and Carolee and Jody Lee and Liz in the park and after that Jody Lee just stopped appearing. I think I read that C.C. Courtney had a role on Broadway or off Broadway around the time Jody Lee stopped appearing.
  21. A big shocker about Billy Allison was revealed on Friday's episodes. Any reactions?
  22. Jody Lee departed in 1969 when Rick Edelstein was head writer. He just stopped appearing. I recall that at one point he was mentioned to be visiting his family back home. Liz departed in April/May 1970. She didn't have much to do after she was kidnapped by Phillip Townsend. Toward the end of her stint, she returned to work with Nick in the lab. She then got an emergency message about her mother, I believe, and left town. It was very abrupt. As for Anna, she had some kind of health crisis in the spring of 1970. Then, around October 1970, after the Pollocks assumed writing the show, Anna mentioned a job offer in New York City. She quickly accepted the job and departed. Recently, Carolee received a postcard from Anna that hinted that she and Ed Stark had reconciled.
  23. Catching up on this week's episodes. We get our first glimpse of Dr. Hank Iverson and Dr. John Morrison, plus mention of lab technician Toni Ferra (played by Anna Stuart). I had no idea that Toni was Dan Allison's niece.
  24. I think the conversation tapered off after that SON upgrade last year. People migrated to other forums, like Daytime Royalty and Facebook. We're now into November 1970. The Pollocks' work just started airing a few weeks ago. May to October 1970 was pretty outstanding with one of the standouts being Eileen Kearney as Greta Powers. Carol Pfander is currently playing Cathy Ryker, the role that Nancy Barrett would play.
  25. Susan Yusen portrayed Diana Selkirk, who was in the Children of the Earth cult. Her father, who was dying, got Mike Karr to get her out of the cult. Upon his death, Mr. Selkirk's corneas were given to Mike who was blind. Diana became obsessed with Mike and ultimately determined that Mike wasn't worthy of her father's corneas. She tried to throw acid into Mike's eyes but got carted away by the police. She was only around for about four months. David Garrison played Cody Patrick, who was in the cult storyline. He was the mastermind behind some murders that were committed by Albert, played by David Prowse of Star Wars.
