Actually Luke (Lew) Dancy lasted longer. He showed up right after Joan Dancy died and was there till the last episode on December 31, 1982.

I know Weber showed up as Burton Canfield on Texas in 1982. He was definitely in the final episode of Texas, appearing alongside Lori March who played his wife Mildred.

A lot of us speculate that Anna burned her bridges in 1976 with her remarks to the press about the writing and direction the show had taken with Toni and Mike (including a head-scratching career change for Mike). She was written out very abruptly around September 1976, seemingly before her contract had expired. So it's very possible that her criticism of the show led to her departure.

As soon as Lakin left in 1969, there was an immediate shift in the writing style. I found it very noticeable. There was an intelligence in the writing when Lakin was there that disappeared when Edelstein took over. What didn't help was the overacting of James Shannon in the role of Paul Bennett. The Doctors truly lost something magical when Lakin departed.

ALL: Proposed Soaps Over The Years
I recall Soap Opera Digest talking about both shows. Star Crossed was about rival families in the auto industry and their children who fell in love ala Capitol. So this article appeared in 1984? For some reason, I recall Soap Opera Digest reporting on the shows in 1983. I think they were being primed for a September 1983 premiere.

I'm pretty sure Jayne Bentzen was also on Guiding Light. It was around November/December 1983 -- around the time Reva was introduced.

I couldn't recall if Chris was perhaps an undercover detective working on the film. I believe Falzone was a contract player and I was always surprised that the character was written out so quickly.

For Falzone, was Chris Rafferty a detective on Edge? I place Falzone playing an actor on the "Mansion of the Damned" movie that was filmed in Monticello in 1979.

I'd love to see the original set for the hospital. I believe there was a staircase in the set.

From what I've read, the color green was used so prominently because the show had been initially filmed in black and white, and green appeared well on B&W TVs. The green hospital set continues until mid-1976 when the hospital set was overhauled.

From soap synopses I read, Penny departed at the end of May 1977; Althea followed at the end of June. If I remember correctly, Julia Duffy returned to The Doctors around May 1975. Perhaps she only had a two-year contract and opted to leave when it was up.

The Doctors Discussion Thread
I can't seem to find the article, which I reread yesterday. In it, Marland complained that it was unprofessional of Julia Duffy to quit the show so abruptly, and said he had a story in place for Penny. And you're right...he did complain about Hubbard not saying the lines as they were written. He was not pleased with that at all. Isn't the story that he referenced the Hubbard Squash on ATWT frequently as a dig against Liz Hubbard (the Hubbard Squash has a hard outer shell)?

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Murray Bartlett (Cyrus, Guiding Light) and Michael Park (Jack, As the World Turns) are slated to be in Netlix's Tales of the City. Olympia Dukakis and Barbara Garrick will reprise their roles from the 90s miniseries.

Nope. I meant June 1977. Althea and Jerry were last seen around May 1977 and the interview with Marland took place after Elizabeth Hubbard left the show. He was vocal in the interview about Julia Duffy quitting without giving much notice since he had a storyline in mind for her. He complained about Hubbard in the interview, too.

It was all intentional. There is an interview with Marland circulating online from around June 1977 where he discusses his vision for the show. It doesn't seem that it was Young who didn't understand what the show was supposed to be about, but Marland. He discussed his plan to refocus the show on the families -- the Powers, Aldriches, and Dancys, and the need for the show to focus on romance. I don't know if he even mentioned Hope Memorial. The interview can be found on page 98 of this thread. As for the "silent ones" looking at clipboards and answering the phones, we're seeing less and less of the extras who have been around since the 60s. That's sad to see as they always enhanced Hope Memorial and its presence. I miss seeing Nurse Dorothy, orderly Joe, Nurse Rios and her blue sweater, and the others. But I always got a kick about how busy they were answering the phone during the closing credits when the phone seldom rings when we see scenes at the hospital.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I want to say the bachelor party and wedding were in January 1993. For some reason, I keep thinking Georgia Engel from The Mary Tyler Moore Show guested during the bachelor party. From what I read online, Billy last appeared around Father's Day in 1993. He then returned for a guest appearance in June 1994 according to some folks.

I actually liked the Maggie storyline but it drags on forever...goes on the back burner, then comes back. I don't think it climaxes until over a year later!! The Cathy replacements (Nancy Barrett and Holly Peters) are fine but I much preferred Carol Pfander in the role. I'll be curious to see your reaction to what the Pollocks do with Cathy.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Having gone to graduate school in the town where Agnes lived (Rosemont, PA), it didn't surprise me to see the mansions pop up on AMC. There are many stately mansions in small towns like Rosemont and neighboring Bryn Mawr. It still pisses me off that my alma mater never reached out to Agnes to see if she'd come to campus to give a talk. I had suggested the idea to the director of the creative writing program. They had no idea she lived just miles away and never pursued the opportunity.
