Days of Our Lives: May 2022 Discussion Thread
Today was ok. I do appreciate Paulina continues to be the only one with a normal human reaction to the Devil stuff. Just telling Chanel to stay away which is what I would do as well. It's nice to have a character making sense.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
You are probably right re: Ned/Alexis. Ned just called her sweetheart in one of the scenes so I assumed they were still together. I remember that lull of 'oh he's so sad he's seeing a bunch of hookers" stuff lol. It was directly after he dumped Skye then Brenda at her wedding and tried to pay her to leave town. It was when his popularity was already taking major hits, so, sure, let's have him now start seeing sex workers as well. That's what we all want in a romantic lead! I see what you're saying though in regards to his other stories. I do think the show made a HUGE effort with him and Sam and when that tanked he moved more to the background. I guess I just never considered Jax a lead like Sonny or Jason or Luke. He was only a lead when he was paired with women that were major leads. Jax never really stood on his own with his own stories of much worth. Skye was truly a character that had some of the most random romances on Gh and so many! Jax, Luis Alcazar, Luke, Ric, Ned, Lorenzo Alcazar, Coleman!. JFP was trying to make something stick. I can add a character that ate the show on GH-The Balkan. He didn't appear until 4 months into Brenda's run, but I can safely say he was named dropped 10000 times by all characters before they even found an actor or even came up with a vague idea for a plot. I don't think I have ever heard a name mentioned by more people in every situation on a soap lol

I forgot Jax was involved with Angel as well. That is a character GH really tried to make happen and was tied to quite a few people for no reason. I wouldn't say she ate the show, but McTavish and JFP sure wanted to make her work. 2001 was such an odd year for the show, but it was solidly back by 2002. I think Jax still had story consistently. He went from Skye to Brenda to Sam to Courtney to Carly without much lull in between. I don't think any story between Brenda to Carly was good, but he had a solid B story almost always. I think half the reason Guza kept him around though is because he loved playing the Sonny vs. Jax/whatever woman angle. And Ingo was popular enough to stay at the time. Jax just never got a full characterization beyond 'white knight'. Luke/Skye were very odd. I don't remember hating them just wondering how it came to be. lol

Characters that ATE their Soaps
I think it was violently killing off a character that didn't need to be killed in mob violence that was unpopular. She was an innocent bystander with only peripheral ties to Sonny/Jason/et all. It was all very senseless and just a plot point to move the Sonny/Alexis baby saga forward. Don't get me started on Skye and being a Q-something later retconned so she could be paired with Ned!! I think part of the reason Skye survived was because they needed an obstacle for Jax/Brenda. Which is a shame because they moved Jax/Skye at lightning speed to accommodate VM's return and Skye/Jax weren't half bad. They just weren't anywhere near an organic place to get married at the time. I think RC and Skye are popular and Skye perhaps seemed popular on GH, but she was never a good fit really. Interesting. Chloe is another really senseless death. It's so odd Jax was involved. I don't understand exactly how Jax's quest to find non dead Brenda led to Alexis's sister and I don't think the show it explains it that well. Jax was like, "nope, didn't find Brenda, but found this instead". I never really understood Jax's weird forays into Cassadine stories. I didn't realize Ned was still with Alexis at the time Kristina appeared. lol

I don't recall Kristina being popular, but I think the way she was killed off was unpopular. I think pairing her with Ned so soon after Alexis was a poor choice for the character. I never thought Kristina was very well developed, but I actually thought she would have been better with Jax than Skye was. She got killed off in an explosion set by Luis Alcazar meant for Sonny while she was going to tell Sonny Alexis was pregnant with his baby. My favorite Alexis scene ever is her screaming and throwing the ashes at Sonny at the funeral. It was such a good speech! Lol! I just said pairing her with Ned was unpopular. Her introduction was weird. Jax went to find a presumed dead Brenda when IR left the show and came back with Alexis's never before heard of sister lol. Random. JRN did have a likable screen presence. Listen, I don't think she was popular, but I think there were some really unpopular actresses that had more hate at the time (Angel, the Sarah recast, the Maxie recast, etc.)

Characters that ATE their Soaps
Of course not! And then they gave Sonny a brother like a year later. I have to say I could deal with Skipper being Sonny's sister if I didn't have to deal with Jason/Courtney as well. She was good with AJ. That era of the 4 of them Carly/Sonny/Jason/Courtney was absolutely dreadful and the pinnacle (IMO) of all the characters airtime.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
I thought it was Frons that loved Courtney, but then moved on to KeMo and that gave Guza the room to get rid of Courtney. I do remember he (supposedly) hated her. Courtney still had that story with Jax and Nik after. Wasn't JFP the EP the entire time?

Characters that Stopped Getting Stories
And the Jerry Jax stuff was very abruptly ended. Jerry just left her right at their wedding? Right before? She had that story with Roy Dilucca and Melissa IIRC and some stuff with Carly's bio dad. That's the last time I remember her being decently featured as far as appearances (not storywise because those were awful)

Days of Our Lives: May 2022 Discussion Thread
Ron would ruin a story like that, but I would absolutely love that story for them even if it's lame for Will/Sonny. I think the bigger problem is figuring out Chandler's schedule to then working out what to do with ZT and Sonny. Is BD on contract? Is that recent? He really hasn't been on in ages, but I do think he's coming back soon. Maybe even before Sami, which would make sense with what's happening with his daughter.

Characters that Stopped Getting Stories
Again, I don't think any child has ever driven as much story with as many characters as Michael. Tony wasn't irredeemable and deserved an arc recovering from his breakdown that we saw. But Guza pivoted the Michael story to more 'important' characters and literally seemingly forgot about Tony because the Bobbie/Carly story was over. It's a shame, but at the same time it did revitalize Tony as a character for a bit.

So I don't think that's a crazy idea. I don't know if a soap would ever do that, but that's sort of how I felt about how Chad/Sonny were playing the scenes. Both were getting really mad about things that don't really matter much and they were being intense with one another.

ARTICLE: Steve Burton Announces Separation from Wife
To be fair to the soon to be ex Mrs. Burton they could have been separated for awhile. It is a choice to put this business out there starting with a pregnancy announcement on her part though. That's just weird. All of it. She has to know Steve is famous enough people would notice this lol. Idk what I would have said if I was Steve. Maybe something slightly better worded than it's not my baby lol.

Is he still thinking about taking over Titan? I can't remember if he gave Victor an answer lol. I would definitely say something weird is going on with the Chad, Leo, Will, Sonny group, but I am not sure what yet. I think Chad would be supporting his wife at this time and not shooting the sh*t with Sonny about petty things that don't include the murder of your wife's grandma but that's me.

Days of Our Lives: May 2022 Discussion Thread
Why did Gwen tell Abby that about Laura? What did she think Abby would do with that information? Gwen is just creating more stupid trouble for herself at this point. Chad is really worked up over this Leo story lol. It seems a little out of character for him to care that much. It's not like Abigail wasn't in on it. Who cares? It's a little embarrassing, but on the scale of embarrassing things that have happen to Chad/Abigail this is no big deal.

Best/Worst Production Value Periods on Soaps
I don't think I have watched THE CITY since it aired, but I always thought the sets looked modern and Sydney/Tracy had an awesome penthouse. It felt cool and hip to me at the time..........but clearly that wasn't the overall consensus by viewers.🤣

Best/Worst Production Value Periods on Soaps
Speaking of Loving, I always thought the City looked cool. I know it was trying to copy a lot of night time production from that era, but it always looked good to me.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
GH is super easy besides the above: Dante (for his first couple of years), Brenda (both her returns), Michael (no child has ever been so important), Courtney, Peter and Franco. I am sure I am missing a few lol. Days-Sami in the 2000's, EJ in the same era, Daniel, Carly (first run), the Last Blast crew in the early aughts.

Characters that Stopped Getting Stories
I would argue Sam's always been irrelevant, but I guess that's a different topic lol. Tony's a good one. I think with Tony the intention was to backburner him for awhile because the show really took him far in one direction and after a breakdown and some redemption he would be back, but it's almost like the show forgot about him lol. I am sure Tony did things but between his Carly/Michael shenanigans and his death-I couldn't tell you.

Characters that Stopped Getting Stories
How many Sam stories really were about Sam and not Jason adjacent though? I would say Dante is someone who used to have all the stories and hasn't done much in ages. He was pretty much dropped as a lead after a year or so on the show and he was on every. single. day.

Days of Our Lives: May 2022 Discussion Thread
Sonny was way out of character and it did seem like he still had feelings for Leo. But would you want Chad to think you were bad in bed? Gotta keep those options open for when Chad finally does admit he's bisexual.🤣

Daily Hotness
Lol..........in the most random thing I have ever told SON........ I actually know Michael Sasaki. He used to be a figure skater in the LA area and so was I. He was really good. He grew up very hot and is a very nice guy.
