I would assume they didn't consider it in their budget? They understood the idea, but JER, for example used Eileen, Drake, and Deidre over their guarantees and the show paid for the overages back then. They probably were more concerned about story and just didn't think about how much it would cost. I can understand they were just interested in the product they were producing over the costs. Some people (especially creative ones) just aren't that budget minded. I mean, Days looks like it cost $5 dollars to produce at this point lol-it's probably extremely difficult to make that work. I liked a lot of stuff MarDar and Cwickly and Brash did. Higley was clearly more business minded, but horrible. I thought Higley personally hated the characters of Marlena/John as well, which probably isn't ideal if Days is the show you are writing.

Yeah they did. I just think Stefan's previous history made it a bad move from the start and you really can't come back from that. Unless you're Ben lol. I think Ron screwed up Stefan from the jump, but I don't think he actually screwed them up as a couple. I cut some slack due to TC's personal issues as well.

It's hard to say where it will go. I don't think anyone was prepared for this behind the scenes. I guess we will all watch it unfold. I have always liked Gabi and I like BB as Stefan. I just don't think they are that important. I honestly have always thought CB did a good job and Gabi was one of the better developed "younger" characters. But....she's not why I watch Days lol.

I don't think it was the most exciting episode, but it had vets, family scenes, a John/Marlena "love scene", and it felt like a good note to end on. I was at least interested in that. I don't mind Gabi/Stefan, but we've known he was alive for a minute so it's not that impactful and certainly not something that would entice me to watch on Monday. But I am going to watch on Monday regardless, so I am not that objective lol. Maybe someone who is on the fence about Peacock might feel differently.

I do like the idea of a clip show that wouldn't ruin continuity. That would have been a great way to go out. I do think NBC/Ron/Corday/Whoever wanted a cliffhanger ending and Stefan/Gabi aren't it lol. The show probably should have ended with the episode that had Marlena, Kate and Kayla getting sick as that seems to be what they are promoting and featured numerous vets if they weren't going out with anything special.

We are probably talking in circles here, but it's really not even remotely the same as AW-perhaps a bit similar to the Prospect Park stuff, but Days is continuing on Monday. PP wasn't really ironed out yet, so AMC and OLTL created finales as if it was the last episode ever, but with a few cliffhangers. Days absolutely should have inserted a special episode, but it would still have to follow the continuity of future episodes. It's not an ending for Days and AW/AMC/OLTL/Whatever were ending. Plans were scrapped, stories changed, production halted, and endings were created. Days is just continuing on. With preemptions and what not perhaps it wasn't feasible to time, but like @ironlionsaid Deidre or somebody should have come out and thanked viewers and invite them to watch on Peacock. Anyhow that's not what happened and it's dumb, but the new promo does look good IMO. I get the feeling NBC/Ron purposely avoided making a big deal out of the final televised episode because no one wants to act like the move is a big deal and everything will just be business as usual on Monday.

I am not sure any of this correlates to AW being cancelled. I know it's a beloved show and I don't mean any disrespect, but it's just not the same thing. The Days episodes are pre taped months ahead and it perhaps wasn't enough time to do a proper sendoff, but the show could have done something more to send it off the network and to streaming. There was no (good) cliffhanger, no enticement to pay to watch, and it was absolutely shameful. AW closed up shop and was done. Days is trying to stay alive and get new viewers, but I don't think it's fair to compare a soap that was cancelled 20+ years ago to what's going on today. It's just a completely different animal as far as viewership goes.

I think it's the orchid John, Kristen, Hope, stefano got to save Roman in 1997 in the jungle. After the botched Marlena/John wedding and when they started teasing Hope/John. Theoretically I guess it could be the same disease Roman had. I don't recall all the details of his disease (I thought it was ISA related), but he did cough a lot in 1997 lol

I personally think a 2 day sendoff is great compared to dying a slow death on streaming, but that's just me. Anyhow, why does SH's hair look like that? It's so fried looking. I don't even need Kristen to have blonde hair if it looks like that. I am still so confused by this Stefan/Chloe agenda. Does anyone remember their relationship?

I forgot to ask yesterday, but is Orpheus unleashing Covid on Salem? Did Rolf invent something like that? 🙄 Oh, Ron. I haven't looked at spoilers for a minute, but do John/Marlena get the last 'love scene' on network tv for Days? That would be strangely fitting somehow.🤣

Yeah, Ned definitely was cast aside eventually, but it's hard for me to say if it was because JFP/Guza disliked him or if too many of his stories tanked and they gave up. The Alan/Rae/Skye story was centered on Skye (and Rae) especially with those Linda Dano traipsing all through the ABC daytime lineup looking for her kid and kid's dad. I have never thought Skye was a great fit for GH, but I did like her as a Q and it shouldn't have been undone just so she could date Ned. I always thought Skye worked better with AJ, Alan, Edward, etc than any of her love interests. I totally forgot Tony being involved in the Helena endgame stuff. That was very random.

IA about Ned. I think Ned did have more to do than, say, Tony until 2004 ish. I do think JFP/Guza did want to do something with Ned and did Ned/Alexis, Kristina 1.0, changed Skye from a Q to a non Q just so Ned/Skye could date, and brought recast Lois back. That didn't work, but I think they had a little more interest in Ned than Mac or Tony. Alan did have the whole Skye/Rae storyline and a few cancer scares with Monica. He also was pretty involved in AJ trying to get custody of Michael. Take those stories for what you will, but he had some material. Again, SD was wasted, but I literally can't remember what Tony did in that period or if he was even on the show lol.

I don't remember Steve/Orpheus really crossing paths, but I assume they did? Steve was still kind of a bad guy in Stockholm IIRC and I remember him being more involved with the Bo, Britta, and Kayla (obviously) end of things. For some reason I remember RoJohn doing a lot of the Orpheus stuff alone, wandering around looking for Marlena. Shane was more involved on that end. It's been a long time since I have seen Stockholm though and I could very possibly be wrong but I don't remember Orpheus caring at all about Steve or Kayla. I know Stockholm pretty much exists in its entirety on you tube, so I should probably watch again lol

This is a stupid question that probably has been answered several times, but why does Orpheus hate Steve?

The hospital annoys me the most and I think everyone has explained it well enough, but J&M's townhouse bothers me more than the Kiriakis/Dimera mansions. Aside from the fact Steve and Kayla live in the same set, but with a kitchen, J&M's townhouse is supposed to be large enough to accommodate several people living there. It doesn't even give the appearance of anything larger than a couple of bedrooms. Where would the kitchen be? Is the whole house connected by one hallway? I can't even imagine the floor plan of that house. At least you can vaguely imagine the K and D mansion having several rooms.

Words cannot express how much I hate Brenda's breakdown and these set of scenes in particular. I can easily say it's my least favorite Brenda story ever and the worst acting Vanessa Marcil has ever done lol. It's very strange how Carly revitalized Tony/Bobbie's stories, but Tony was dropped just as quickly once Carly hooked up with Jason/AJ. It seems like the show should have kept that thread going with Tony/Carly or revisit it, but once Carly/Tony ended and he had his breakdown he just disappeared. I never really considered Mac a main player. He rarely had his own stories except the tale of two Macs-which I still don't understand lol. He was utilized a lot, but he was often reacting or a player in other characters stories.

Maybe the angle is what makes every person not in the hospital bed look awkward and unnatural? Like they have no place that feels comfortable to sit or stand. I know it's a smallish set but Will, John, Kayla, whoever is with the injured person doesn't look like they know how to hit their mark and it always looks like everyone is huddled around smothering the person in the bed lol. I am probably not explaining it right, but the set just always feels so crowded even with only one machine and two people lol.

Lol! I also noticed Jen had a Tory Burch bag. Usually the purses the actors carry are non-descript, so I thought it was probably Cady's actual purse. I thought CM did pretty well with the Maggie scenes and I am usually pretty critical of her as Jen. I agree she did a nice job with Suzanne. I wish we could have seen some sort of progression into this relapse, but it's Days. Also, how silly was it to throw those pills in the empty wastebasket not down the toilet? Speaking of cheap sets, I find the hospital one of the worst. Not so much the main lobby or Marlena's office, but the actual hospital rooms. They are so unrealistic and take me out of scenes more so than any other cheap house/hotel sets.

Agreed. I think it would have been better to say Karen came to town to be an intern in PC to bond with her newfound dad and then her marriage to Jagger fell apart due to long distance. It's much less damaging to the characters and the couple to say that over Jagger is a horrible cheater. Pretty crappy for Karen/Jagger fans especially without getting ASJ or Jagger's POV or an appearance or anything. I was never a fan of Karen or Jagger and Karen, but I always considered them the hook that first brought you into that teen scene. They were your root for couple and made you care about the other characters in their group. By 1997, I guess GH didn't care because they had Brenda/Sonny and Jason/Robin, but you realistically could have put PC way ahead of the game if you were still able to tease a Jagger/Karen reunion.

I forgot Scott was gone lol. I thought the show was going to make Alan her dad, but I guess that would be weird with her relationship with Jason? They didn't go very far, but I guess that's icky. Not sure why the built up Alan/Rhonda though. Anyhow, I don't think Scott was the initial plan for Karen's dad, but I could be wrong. I think it would have been a great idea to wait for the launch of PC to reveal Karen's paternity. Because as it was it was pretty anticlimactic at the time.

Idk, I could see a use for Karen with Scott as her dad. She could have mixed it up with Sonny/Brenda or been involved with Stone's illness and Jason's accident. There were men to pair her with and family drama to explore. I have little use for Karen as she did get replaced by Brenda, Robin, Lois, etc as the young female leads, but I do think you could have worked her in somewhere. I can see CS turning down PC because she was booking regular primetime gigs at the time (and may have been playing Matt's wife on 90210 back then?). CS and ASJ could have made returns to the main show and I agree it was a huge waste to kill Karen off.

I just assumed their contracts were up? I guess it was sudden or a surprise at least for Cari Shayne to leave because they just made Scott her dad. Or maybe CS was cut because ASJ left? I can't recall. I think ASJ always had one foot out the door as the more famous of the two. I believe Vanessa said she had a 3 or 4 year initial contract, so maybe they changed from the standard 2 year to a longer one for newbies after that since they both were hired before her. IDK, it was a perfect ending at the time for them, but it seemed like they could have provided a lot more story. Especially with Stone and Sonny/Brenda heating up-there was a place for them.

I never knew Michael Sutton was older. The return of Karen/Jagger was good at the time. It's too bad they couldn't work it out to come back a few more times because once they were gone-they were gone and not mentioned very often. I have always felt Jagger/Karen had so much story still to give when they left-outside of Stone.

It's actually good casting. They do look alike. It's easy to forget they are brothers because ASJ left and he was so absent for Stone's entire illness and death. I think Karen and Jagger came back early on when Stone was diagnosed, but never again. The show seemed to purposely minimize the relationship just because the actors weren't available. But Jagger did name his son after Stone as we found out on Night Shift. The younger sister played by Nikki Cox (Gina) came back later as a different actress as well in 1997 ish.

I didn't realize Stephanie briefly lived with Adrienne lol. So no excuse I guess. Just to make it less creepy they are cousins. Again, if the show was aiming to immediately pair RSW with the actress that plays Stephanie, why couldn't he be someone else lol?
