Did Anna do the eulogy when John died? Marlena spoke and I thought that was the main 'eulogy' if you will. Anyhow, I know they bonded and raised Carrie, but that bond is really far back and obscured by the fact that Carrie's rarely acknowledged. I guess I should be thankful Susan's not around right now because she would be the one writing it.

Yeah, I am not even sure why Allie/Chanel would need an office for their shared business. You would assume the office would be at their actual business location. I don't mind Wendy living there, but offer her the couch in the office at least to at so everyone can have some privacy lol. Bonnie writing something for Marlena seemed like a thing she felt like doing-not because she was asked. Anna said eulogy. If we are choosing Marlena's old friends it should be Maggie, but that would never happen. Is Sami in some country she can't get plane flights or using the airline Hope used while she was off the show that never made it anywhere? The Carrie mentions are always hit and miss, so I am not surprised she is nowhere to be found. And Salem Hospital needs an HR department because I would think Sarah wearing half a shirt would be unhygienic and I wouldn't be comfortable with a Dr that wore that treating me.

Days: February 2023 Discussion Thread
I caught up on episodes and I have a few questions since everyone has already made a lot of good points and suggestions and I have nothing to add. 1. Was there a reason given why Sami wouldn't attend the funeral? Chanel mentioned it, but I wonder if the show even attempted a reason why except Ali Sweeney is doing hallmark. 2. Why was Anna writing Marlena's eulogy? I know they are friends, but that's a stretch. I wonder if she was asked or just took it upon herself lol 3. If there is an office at Allie's that has a place a tall man like Alex can sleep than why does Wendy have to sleep on the couch in the middle of the living room? Or was drunk Alex literally sleeping on the floor? 4. Is Sarah allowed to wear the things she does to work? I know she has a lab coat on, but people can see underneath it and half of her stomach shows a lot. I guess know rules now that Kayla died.

Back from the dead - The good, the bad, & the ugly
I think it could have gone either way with the clarity on the scene in 2000, but when she explained it to Jax in 2002, I didn't get the impression she wasn't in her right mind or that was the excuse. I could be a bit off as I haven't seen it in a while, but the way the show framed it is that Luis offered to protect her and take care of her until she died and she made the decision to stay with him and not let anyone know she was alive. Until the very end she was his willing companion and wasn't being kept captive. The only thing I can't say for sure is if the drugs altered her decision making/clarity or if Luis and the drs. were just filling her with lies and telling her she was doing things she couldn't remember. The show wasn't the most clear on that. Maybe both? Anyway, her reasoning about leaving was always pretty thin. She said she stayed with Luis because she didn't love him and didn't want a person she loved to see her go mad. Hence, the initial reason she married Jason. It seems super selfish and something I don't see Brenda doing to Jax after Sonny left her at the altar like that. I don't know if Brenda/Luis were living it up, but the show did make it clear that they would travel together and he would spare no expense on her-he was just basically the only person interacting with her. Looking at it now as adult, I think you could absolutely excuse Brenda's decision making because Luis was lying and manipulating her so badly, but I could have just done without it at all and made her ill/injured for that time. I do think the entire situation and her fake death is basically erased from existence though. I don't think a single character brought it up in 2010.

Back from the dead - The good, the bad, & the ugly
Brenda was injured in the crash, but always knew who she was. She decided to not tell anyone she was alive before she got tested again for that disease. Luis had the results doctored so she thought she was sick, but in order to spare Jax pain she just stayed presumed dead. Luis was drugging her, but it's a little unclear how that effected her. I think it was a valium ish type drug and Luis was gaslighting her into thinking she was losing it more than she was. The only reason she reappeared is she realized Luis was nuts and going to kill Jax/Sonny. Jax was the only person really mad at her about it, but he forgave in like 5 episodes.

Back from the dead - The good, the bad, & the ugly
Obviously, I am going to choose Brenda's return because there is no other choice for me. The actual return was great. But the reasoning behind her faking her own death always annoyed me-from the unnamed disease to the fact that it was actually pretty selfish and a really crappy thing to do to Jax and everyone that loved her overall lol. If I were to nitpick I would have had Luis holding her captive for revenge instead or something else keeping her away like she JUST recovered from her injuries from the crash. Anyway, good story and brought a lot to the canvas. Another obvious one is Marlena/Real Roman's return. We always knew Marlena was most likely alive, but they kept that thread going without Marlena/DH for her entire time away. The John/Marlena reunion on the pier was great and so was seeing Wayne's Roman for the first time. I actually hated pretty much all of the Tale of 2 Romans, but it started strong and did provide the 90's with a ton of drama. As far as Tony/Andre, I don't even remember the entire back and forth with them, but I thought the idea of Andre being Tony through all the Kristen/John drama was a good one. But like with Days all the time one good idea is played out or retconned to suit the endless string of producers and writers.

Yes! I just tend to put characters in generational boxes or categories in my head and Brenda belongs in Sonny, Jason, Carly's box to me. She can have a younger fling, but it's weird to me because she literally knew him as teenager. I know it's never stopped Sonny, but you shouldn't put Brenda with Lucky either even though I am sure GV and VM would look nice together.

General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
Objectively, I am sure it would be an okay pairing, but I still remember when Nik was a teen and Brenda had been engaged to two different men and married even though I don't think they are actually that far apart in age since she was pretty young when this was occurring. It just creeped me out because they seemed in two very different places in life and two different generations. Nik/Brenda would have very random scenes. After her breakdown and Nik got shot she had an entire soliloquy to him about mob violence when he was in a coma or sleeping in the hospital and then they had another very long conversation about not growing up with their moms in the PC Hotel lobby. It was of no consequence to any story, but it was clear they just wanted to have scenes together. Anyway, Adam Huss and VM would make an attractive couple, but I think the show would try her with CM/Drew before Nik. Or just bring Steve back to do Jason/Brenda.

Thank you! I did! Perhaps it LA's choice? I agree 100% there are a lot of 40 somethings on soaps that have outlived their usefulness and that jump in and out of pairings, but soaps don't seem attractive to young/any actors at all these days lol. Except for your vets. I think LA is very good. I just don't like Allie these days. I also don't think LA has the innate charisma KA/SN did.

I have been on vacation and haven't watched since Wednesday or Thursday, but you guys aren't inspiring me to turn it on.🤣 Obviously, I'll get around to it, but I really checked out when Susan was the gatekeeper/devil in Heaven. LA is leaving? I mean I hate smug Allie as I have said, but that's a shame.. I am the worst about spoilers lol. I am always too lazy to read spoilers or any recaps except from you guys on this board.

I agree so much with this. Things do just happen to her and she's so insecure about things, but the show doesn't play on why and there are reasons why. She justs comes off bitter without reason.

Eric was pretty wasted....at his family's bar....and no one stopped him. So maybe? I like Sloan and Eric and the actress is getting better. I'll allow Kate/Marlena being good friends because overall they were dating back to the 70's or whenever. And putting Sami on death row? At times understandable lol... Do you think Ron is gunning for Allie? I think it's in LA's delivery. She's a good actress, but she's very cold at times. I think she's actually giving the material an extra bit of sharpness. As far as what's going on with Joss on GH? Idk, it's like she's a mini Carly without any depth. Like she's made of sunshine and roses without any complexity her mother or even father had.

I think I would have liked it if it was just a Marlena/John story and the devil didn't enter the chat. The moment I saw the ending today I knew all my goodwill was over and of course Ron just took it too far.

I loved Carrie and Carrie/Marlena/John's relationship. I wish Christie was able to tape. @AbcNbc247It's tough to beat Joss as the worst, but Allie is trying. If she actually slept with Alex she would win IMO. Listen, the devil is somehow involved in all this now through Susan and I can see all the nice things I said about recent shows going to literal hell quickly lol.

I actually liked Allie too for a long time. I don't think she's irredeemable or anything and still has tons of potential. She's just so mean lol. I am not sure if it's the writing or LA's delivery, but Allie comes off like a miserable person while Chanel still seems so nice and undeserving of this treatment. I do think Sami and Lucas being MIA really does a disservice to the character and they tend to island Allie with Chanel/Abe/Paulina most of the time except for this week.

I can tell you one thing I could have certainly lived without: Susan guiding Marlena into Heaven. Ugh....I thought we were rid of her. I like the John/Abe scenes. No offense to Stephanie, but I feel like we had one day of Joey and Steve's pain over Kayla, but like 6 episodes of Stephanie mourning. It's a lot. @AbcNbc247Allie is really giving Joss from GH a run for her money on being smug and insufferable. Aside from not actually cheating, she really is one of the worst characters on soaps right now.

Character connections that were lost.
I didn't like the couple or anything, but it's odd they act like they barely know one another when they have had a pretty intense romance and have had a working relationship for years-not to mention Lucas/Austin/Phillip were married to his daughter/stepdaughters.

Yeah, the montage and the build up makes it clear this is a Marlena/John story and Kayla and Kate were just added in to give them something to do. It feels so tacked on for the other two couples and I think the story would have moved better if they left them out and gave Kate/Kayla different stories. I have no intel obviously, but this is clearly a Jarlena story pitched to TPTB that Ron or whoever decided to put Kate/Kayla in to meet their guarantees. Anyhow, loved today's episode. I am a sucker for flashbacks and montages!! Also, Allie is the WORST.

Character connections that were lost.
Marlena/Maggie is the first one that popped into my mind too. John/Kate interact occasionally, but you would never know they were once in love and engaged. That was wiped from history apparently. I don't expect them to talk about it or anything, but the show acts like they are casual acquaintances. Hope/Claire was another poorly defined relationship. You knew Hope was Claire's grandma, but most of the time Hope showed little interest in her.

I liked today's episode better than yesterday's, specifically the John/Marlena and Johnny/Chanel scenes. The use of history and talk about Isabella was really good with John/Marlena and Johnny/Chanel seemed to spark up again. Although I question having a dying woman sit out in the cold on a rooftop to look at slides of pictures, but whatever. Yesterday's episode was less scattered as far as characters, but I enjoyed today more. I could have done without the EJ/Stefan scenes, which felt very out of place for this episode. Belle, Allie, and Eric should have also been part of today's episode. I did have a question about yesterday though. When Claire left her mental stability was fine, right? Belle made it sound like Claire was in intensive therapy yesterday and that's why she couldn't come to Salem. I am sure she has therapy still, but she was fairly sane last we saw her.

Oh, I agree about Sonny/Carly being GH's last supercouple. I don't even consider Patrick/Robin mostly because I vastly prefer Jason/Robin lol. Anyway, regarding Carly/Sonny, I thought they were portrayed as two people that were very damaged that slowly fell in love with one another's faults and imperfections. They were different than their previous romances and it was interesting to watch unfold. I did really like them through most of Tamara's entire run. I do think Guza/Pratt wrote them as superheroes, but I also think Frons/Guza/JFP/whoever started to really try to appease some of the nuttier, more vocal S&C fans plus catering to MB's demands and the writing suffered.

General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
Hmmm...now that you say that I guess I can see the Sonny being a saint stuff starting when he came back. His huge 'sacrifice' for Brenda amounted to nothing because she 'died' anyway, Hannah played him, and Jason was basically better at being the head of the mob than Sonny. But that begins the sanctification of Jason more to me like you said. Sonny was just kind of a sad sack. Even him hooking up with Carly was screwing Jason over in a misguided attempt to protect him or something. I definitely can see your point of view. In my mind it started more when TB took over as Carly and the Sonny/Carly pairing was more romanticized and they became the leading couple. I think SB's Carly/Sonny still remained a very toxic coupling with two people who weren't great.
